Intended Use / Mechanism of Action
Intended Use:
This tap water io tophoresis device is i te ded to treat
hyperhidrosis
1
(excessive sweati g) affecti g ha ds, feet a d
u derarms.
A y other use or usage beyo d this scope is co sidered u -
i te ded use a d may have da gerous co seque ces.
Mechanism of Action:
Duri g the HIDREX treatme t, a curre t flows through the body regio s that
are bei g treated. The water i the trays or pads mediates this curre t flow.
The ski areas i co tact with the water will thereby secrete less sweat.
Although treatme t success has bee validated i umerous medical stud-
ies, there is still o completely satisfactory scie tific expla atio for the
mecha ism of actio . Medical researchers believe that the electrical curre t
irritates the sy apses betwee sweat-i duci g erves a d sweat gla ds to
such a exte t that sweat gla ds ca o lo ger be stimulated. I other
words: the treatme t does ot affect the sweat gla ds directly, it o ly affects
the ervous i put to these gla ds.
This effect explains why the original condition returns relatively quick-
ly when the treatment is discontinued.

The treatme t curre t ca be adjusted accordi g to your i dividual se sitivity.
There is o risk i volved as the curre t ca ot exceed certai maximum values.
Treatment Fundamentals
The HIDREX treatme t co cept comprises two treatme t phases:
Phase 1: The i itial phase (therapy i itiatio ) is sometimes co ducted
u der a doctor‘s supervisio . Duri g this stage, patie ts lear to
admi ister treatme ts. For therapy i itiatio , at least three weekly
treatme ts of approximately 15 mi utes each should be
scheduled ( ot more tha o e treatme t per day). Sweat
secretio will ormalize after approximately 10 treatme ts.
Phase 2: Lo g-term treatme t (mai te a ce therapy) is ecessary
because the HIDREX treatme t effect is reversible. Depe di g
o the severity of the co ditio , mai te a ce therapy i volves
o e to three weekly sessio s of approximately 15 mi utes each.
Polarity Reversal and the Efficacy of Treatments
It has bee cli ically docume ted that the area bei g treated with the a ode (the
electrode that is attached to the red/positive cable) will produce slightly better
results i itially tha the area bei g treated with the cathode (the electrode that is
attached to the black/positive cable).
It is recomme ded to co duct all treatme ts i the i itial treatme t phase (Phase
1) without cha gi g polarity u til o e side reaches a acceptable dry ess level.
O ce ormal or acceptable dry ess has occurred i o e side of the treatme t
area (for example, right ha d), the it is advisable to reverse polarity a d co ti -
ue the i itial phase without cha gi g polarity up to ormal or acceptable dry ess
has occurred i the other side of the treatme t area (for example, left ha d).
O ce ormal or acceptable dry ess has occurred i both sides of the treatme t
area (for example, both ha ds), the it is advisable to reverse polarity for each
treatme t duri g the mai te a ce phase (Phase 2).
Polarity is reversed simply by cha gi g which side of the treatme t area is treat-
ed by the a ode or cathode (the electrodes with the red or black cable, respec-
tively).
For example, o the first treatme t i the mai te a ce phase, if the right ha d
was treated with the a ode a d the left ha d was treated with the cathode, the
o the ext treatme t, the right ha d would be treated with the cathode, a d the
left ha d would be treated with the a ode. This seque ce would co ti ue for
every treatme t.
Remark: Failure to do this does ot cause a y harm or side effects, rather
results i o ly a slight loss of efficacy. Lo g-term treatme t re-
sults do ot depe d o the directio of curre t flow.

O ly i the begi i g of the i itial phase (Phase 1), the a ode
(red cable) is slightly more effective tha the cathode (black
cable).
Hint: It is recomme ded NOT to reverse polarity withi a y give treat-
me t sessio .
Types of Current
The DP450 has several optio s for the type of curre t used duri g treatme t:
-
DC: Direct Curre t (sta dard)
-
PC: Pulsed Curre t
PC is recomme ded as a optio for treatme t of u derarms, or treatme ts
where the ski is more se sitive, or for the treatme t of childre .
Direct Current (DC):
I DC, the curre t (voltage) is bei g tra smitted 100% of the time.
DC is the sta dard curre t of the device, a d is the most efficie t method of tap
water io tophoresis treatme t available.
Due to user comfort prefere ces, this device gives the user the optio to choose
PC as a alter ative.
Pulsed Current (PC):
I PC, the curre t alter ates its tra smissio betwee ON (the pulse) a d OFF
(the pause) for equal le gths of time. The pulse a d the pause are the same
duratio
1
(equivale t to a pulse-width of 50).
PC ca be practically imperceptible at certai voltages a d allows a better com-
fort level, but is typically slightly less effective.
Hint: O ce selected for the treatme t sessio , the pulse-width will remai the
same throughout the sessio . If the user desires to cha ge the pulse-
width for better comfort or more efficie cy, the the treatme t must be
stopped. Power must be cycled o the device to retur to Setup Mode
to cha ge the pulse-width.

Remark: O e or both of the alumi um electrodes may discolor after several
treatme ts. This is completely ormal, a d will ot affect the efficacy
of the treatme t.
Setup for Axillary (Armpits)Treatment
The setup for axillary treatme t is similar to the setup for ha d or feet treat-
me t, except that axillary treatme t requires the Axillary Treatme t Kit✃
i stead of trays.
Proceed with steps 1 to 4 of the i structio s o the previous page.
Thoroughly soak the axillary pads (spo ges with leather covers)❐ with ha d
warm tap water. At this time, i sert the AX electrodes❒
Hint: Do not squeeze any water from the pads!
Subdivide every axillary treatme t i to two sessio s of 7 mi utes
each, i order to re-soak the axillary pads.
Conducting Treatments
For your comfort, please observe the following two instructions before
you begin a treatment session:
1) BEFORE you start a treatme t sessio a d close the electrical curre t
circuit with your ha ds, feet or u derarms, make sure to FIRST tur ON
the mai power switch1. If this seque ce is reversed, there is also a
cha ce that you receive a completely harmless, but u comfortable,
electric shock!
2) Whe co ducti g a treatme t, avoid removi g your ha ds or feet from
the water or removi g the Axillary Treatme t Kit from your u derarms.
If you ig ore this advice, you ru a very small risk of feeli g a complete-
ly harmless, but u comfortable, electric shock. Although the HIDREX
system comes equipped with a feature called A ti Shock Electro ics
(ASE©) desig ed to permit curre t flow i terruptio , there is a very
small cha ce of this shock occurri g due to various other circumsta c-
es.

Remove the treatment area from the water source (trays or pads) and
THEN switch the device off.
Important Advice for Conducting Treatments
For your safety, your HIDREX treatme t system comes equipped with sev-
eral protective circuits.
Immersion monitoring
Immersio mo itori g is a built-i feature that detects whe the treatme t
electrical curre t circuit is closed due to immersio of the palms or feet, or
placeme t of the pads u der the arms. The ACTIVE LED will light up
whe the circuit is closed a d treatme t is active.
Over Treatment Protection (OTP) Feature
If your ski is dryer tha ormal
1
, the dose ca ot be i creased (protectio
agai st over-treatme t). Your HIDREX system automatically checks your
specific ski co ducta ce. If your ski co ducta ce is beyo d the preset
threshold, the protectio circuit is activated a d locks the system. The
ACTIVE LED does ot light up, eve whe the treatme t curre t path is
closed.
Hint: To double-check if over-treatme t protectio has bee activated for you
(a d that it is ot a fault of the device), you ca ru a quick operatio al
check of the device to co firm that it is your ski co ducta ce a d ot the
device. Simply take o e cable a d i sert each e d i to a jack o the

Current Limitation
I cases of very heavy sweati g (which i dicates a low electric resista ce of
the ski a d easier curre t flow), the maximum treatme t curre t ca be
reached before the specified dose (volt value) is achieved. A protectio cir-
cuit (curre t limitatio ) i terve es i this case a d stops the device.
This doesn't have any influence on the completion of the session and
protects you only against burns!
Duri g the course of further treatme ts, higher dose values are gradually
reached as perspiratio decreases (the electric resista ce of the ski i -
creases so higher doses are ecessary for effective ess).
The protectio circuit may appear to react faster whe usi g pulsed curre t
mode, but this is ot the actual case. I PC or VPC mode, the “average”
dose value is displayed, but the device mo itors the maximum curre t, ot
the average

.
Safety circuit
The DP450 has a safety circuit which stops the treatme t i the case the
curre t exceeds 30 mA. I this case, the display will show “StOP” a d all
LEDs will bli k. Please tur it off, u plug the power supply from the wall a d
se d the device with all electrical accessories back to us if this occurs. Please
refer to sectio “Shippi g the Device for Repair or Mai te a ce”.
