Introduction
The EpiCare™ Ceiling Arm provides gas, electric, data/communication, and related services
normally associated with a modular headwall in the ICU, PACU, or Trauma area.
Features
Dual Arm Assembly
The dual arm assembly consists of an upper and a lower arm. It supports the service head plus up to
200 lb (91 kg) of customer provided equipment.
The upper arm is capable of pivoting up to 330° around the central axle (depending upon where the stops
are installed).
The lower arm is capable of pivoting up to 330° at the connection with the upper arm.
Dual Arm Service Head
The service head provides medical gas, electrical, data/communications, and ancillary services similar to
a modular headwall.
Single Arm Assembly
The single arm assembly supports the knuckle box on which the monitor arm attaches: the monitor,
monitor carrier, and other accessories must not exceed 80 lb (32 kg). The knuckle box provides electrical,
and data/communications for the monitor.
Monitor Arm
The monitor arm provides a side-to-side range of motion for the monitor.

Cleaning
WARNING:
Follow the product manufacturer’s instructions. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or
equipment damage.
SHOCK HAZARD:
Do not expose the unit to excessive moisture that would allow for liquid pooling. Personal injury
or equipment damage could occur.
CAUTION:
Do not use harsh cleansers/detergents, such as scouring pads and heavy duty grease
removers, or solvents, such as toluene, xylene, and acetone. Equipment damage could occur.
If there is no visible soilage with possible body fluids, we recommend that you clean the unit with a mild
detergent and warm water. If disinfection is desired, you may use a combination cleanser/disinfectant as
explained in “Disinfecting” below.
Steam Cleaning
Do not use any steam cleaning device on the unit. Excessive moisture can damage mechanisms in this
unit.
Cleaning Hard to Clean Spots
To remove difficult spots or stains, we recommend that you use standard household cleansers and a soft-
bristled brush. To loosen heavy, dried-on soil, you may first need to saturate the spot.
Disinfecting
When there is visible soilage and between patients, we recommend that you disinfect the unit with a
tuberculocidal disinfectant. (For customers in the US, the disinfectant should be registered with the
Environmental Protection Agency.)
Dilute the disinfectant according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Maintenance
WARNING:
Only facility-authorized personnel should perform preventive maintenance on the EpiCare™
Ceiling Arm. Preventive maintenance performed by unauthorized personnel could result in
personal injury or equipment damage.
The Epicare™ Ceiling Arm needs regular care and maintenance, as detailed in the service manual. Please
request that your maintenance technician follows the preventative maintenance section of the service
manual.

Safety Tips
SHOCK HAZARD:
The potential for electrical shock exists with electrical equipment. Establish policies and
procedures to educate your staff on the risks associated with electrical equipment.
WARNING:
The EpiCare™ Ceiling Arm is a heavy unit. Although easy to move, the momentum of a moving
arm and service head can deliver a strong impact. Personal injury or equipment damage can
occur from collision with a moving arm and service head.
WARNING:
Bumping into the service head can cause it to move. It is imperative that IV tubing be of
sufficient length to accommodate inadvertent movement of the service head. Failure to do so
could result in patient injury or equipment damage.
WARNING:
Do not position the service head over the patient area. Improper positioning could result in
patient injury or equipment damage.
CAUTION:
IV poles on beds or stretchers may be located in close proximity to equipment on the service
head. Take care to prevent collisions between other equipment and service head mounted
equipment. Failure to do so could result in equipment damage.

CAUTION:
Use only Hill-Rom parts and accessories as specifies in the Epicare™ Ceiling Arm Service
Manual (man236). Equipment damage could occur.

Do not modify the unit without authorization from Hill-Rom. Unauthorized modification could
void the warranty.
