2. Description
Correct use
TheTE905-AVR isahand-heldelectric tool forchiseling.
Thetoolissuitable for chiseling and demolitionworkon
concrete,masonry,stone or asphalt. Theworkingenvi-
ronment may be on a construction site of any kind.
Thetoolmay be operated onlywhensupplied with a volt-
ageincompliancewith the information given onitsrat-
ing plate.
TheTE905-AVR isaheavy-dutybreaker. Itisequipped
withaTE-S chuck. The toolfeaturesan active vibration
reductionsystemthat reduces vibration byabout50%.
Thetool can beequipped with anoptional theft protec-
tionfunction.This function operates onaradio / transpon-
derprinciple.Whenequipped with this function, thetool
canbeactivatedand operated only by authorizedusers.

5. Safety precautions
5.1 Basic information concerning safety
Inaddition to the informationrelevant to safetygiven in
eachofthesectionsoftheseoperatinginstructions,the
followingpoints mustbe strictlyobserved at all times.
●Donotexposethetooltorainorsnow,donotuseitin
damporwetareasorinthevicinityofinflammableliq-
uidsor gasses.
●Changesor modificationsto thetool arenot permis-
sible.
●To avoid the risk of injury,useonlyoriginalHiltiacces-
soriesand additionalequipment.
●Observe the information printed in the operating instruc-
tionsconcerning operation,care andmaintenance.
●Thetoolanditsancillaryequipmentmaypresenthaz-
ardswhenusedincorrectlybyuntrainedpersonnelor
whenused notas directed.

5.2 Take the necessary precautions to make the
workplace safe
●Ensurethat theworkplace iswell lit.
●Ensurethat theworkplace iswell ventilated.
●Keeptheworkingarea tidy. Objectswhichcouldcause
injury should be removed from the working area.
●When working, keep other persons, particularly chil-
dren,outside therange ofthe tool.
●Avoidunfavorablebody positions.
●Weareye protection.Wearbreathing protectionwhen
the work creates dust.
●Wearnon-slipshoes and alwayswork from a secure
stance.
●Wear protective gloves.
●Donotwearlooseclothing,looselonghairorjewelry
asthese canbecome caughtup inmoving parts.
●To avoid tripping and falling whenworking,alwayslead
the supply cord, extension cord and extraction hose
awayto therear.
●Concealedelectriccablesorgasandwaterpipespre-
sentaserioushazardifdamagedwhileyouarework-
ing.Accordingly, checktheareainwhichyouarework-
ing beforehand (e.g. using a metal detector). Avoid
contact between your body and earthed / grounded
objects,suchaspipesorradiators.Externalmetalparts
ofthetoolmaybecomelive,forexample,whenanelec-
triccable isdrilled intoinadvertently.
●Usea viceor clampto secureloose workpieces.
5.3 General safety precautions
●Operate the tool only as directed and only when it is
in faultless condition.
●Take thesurroundingconditions into account. Donot
expose the tool to rain or snow and do not use it in
damp or wet areas. Do not use the tool where there
is a risk of fire or explosion.
●Neverleave thetool unsupervised.
●Thesidehandlemustalwaysbefittedwhenthetoolis
inuse.
●Thetool isfor hand-helduse only.
●Holdtheside-handlesecurelyattheendfurthestfrom
thetool.
●Keep the tool, especially its grip surfaces, clean and
freefrom oiland grease.
●Whennotinuse,thetoolmustbestoredinadryplace,
lockedup orout ofreach ofchildren.
●Disconnectthesupplycordplugfromthesocketwhen
thetoolisnotinuse(e.g.duringbreaks,beforemain-
tenanceand beforechanging inserttools).
●Take care of your insert tools. Youwillbeabletowork
moreefficientlyand more safely iftheinsert tools are
keptsharpandclean.Observeinstructionsoncareand
maintenanceand onchanging inserttools.
●Donot overloadthe tool.It willwork moreefficiently
and more safely within its intended performance
range.
5.3.1 Mechanical
●Observe the instructions concerning care and main-
tenanceandreplacementofinserttoolsingoodtime.
●Ensurethattheinserttoolsusedareequippedwiththe
correctconnectionendsystemandthattheyareprop-
erlyfitted andsecured inthe chuck.
5.3.2 Electrical
●Check the condition of the tool including the supply
cord and extension cord as well as the plug connec-
tions.Donotoperatethetoolifdamageisfound,ifthe
tool is not complete or if its controls cannot be oper-
atedfaultlessly.
●Donot touch the supply cord in the event ofit suffer-
ingdamagewhileworking.Disconnectthesupplycord
plugfrom thesocket.
●DamagedswitchesmustbereplacedataHiltiservice
center.Donot use thetool if it cannotbe switched on
andoff correctly.
●Thetoolshouldberepairedbyatrainedelectricalspe-
cialist(Hilti servicecenter).
●Nevercarrythe tool by the supply cord.
●Grip the plug and not the supply cord when pulling it
outof thesocket.
●Do not expose the supply cord to heat, oil or sharp
edges.
●When working outdoors, use only extension cords
approvedandcorrespondinglymarkedassuitablefor
outdooruse.
●To avoid a risk of accident, use only original Hilti spare
parts.
●Never operate the tool when it is dirty or wet. Dust or
dampness on the surface of the tool make it difficult
to hold and, under unfavorable conditions, may lead
toelectric shocks.
5.3.3 Thermal
●Theinserttoolmaybecomehotduringuse.Youshould
thereforewearprotectivegloveswhenchanginginsert
tools.

5.4 Requirements to be met by users
●Thetool isintended forprofessional use.
●Thetoolmay be operated, servicedandrepairedonly
byauthorized,trainedpersonnel.Thispersonnelmust
beinformedofanyspecialhazardsthatmaybeencoun-
tered.
●Alwaysconcentrateonthejobyouaredoing.Proceed
carefully and do not use the tool if your full attention
isnot onthe job.
5.5 Personal protective equipment
Theuserandanyotherpersonsinthevicinitymustwear
suitable eye protection, a safety helmet, ear protection,
protectivegloves andbreathing protection.
6. Before use
Ensure that the tool is disconnected from the mains
supply.
6.1 Use of extension cords
Useonlyextensioncordsofatypeapprovedfortheappli-
cationand withconductors ofadequate crosssection.

6.2 Use of a generator or transformer
Thistoolmaybepoweredbyageneratorortransformer
whichfulfils thefollowing conditions:
–AC voltageoutput, poweroutput atleast 3200W
–The operating voltage mustbe within +5%and –15%
ofthe ratedvoltage atall times.
–Frequency range50–60 Hz,never above65 Hz
–Automatic voltageregulation withstarting boost
Neveroperateothertoolsorappliancesfromthegenerator
or transformer at the same time. Switching other tools
or appliances on and off may cause undervoltage and /
orovervoltagepeaks, resulting in damage to the tool.
6.3 Fitting the side handle 
1.Fit the side handle and side handle clamp onto the
tool.
2. Secure the sidehandle by tightening thescrew knob.
7. Operation

●The insert tool may become hot during
use.
●There is a risk of burning the hands.
●Wear protective gloves when changing
insert tools.
Neveruse thetool withoutthe sidehandle.
Usea viceor clampto secureloose workpieces.
7.1 Adjusting the side handle 
1. Unplug the supply cord fromthe mains socket.
2. Slacken the screw knob on the side handle.
3. Bring the side handle into the desired position.
4. Tighten the screw knob to secure the side handle in
the desired position.
7.2 Fitting the insert tool 
-NOTE-
Thechiselcanbelockedinthechuckin6differentposi-
tions(in 60°increments).
Flatandshapedchiselscanthusalwaysbebroughtinto
theoptimum positionfor thejob onhand.

2. Check thattheinsert toolconnection end isclean and
lightlygreased.Clean and grease theconnectionend
if necessary.
3. Check thatthe sealinglip on thedustcap isclean and
ingoodcondition. Clean the dustcapif necessaryor
replace it if the sealing lip is damaged.
4.Push the insert toolintothechuckand rotate it while
applying light pressure until it engages in the guide
grooves.
5.Push the insert tool into the chuck until itis heardto
engage.
6. Check thatthe inserttool is heldsecurely byattempt-
ing to pull it out of the chuck.
7.3 Removing the insert tool 
1. Unplug the supply cord fromthe mains socket.
2. Open the chuck by pulling back the locking sleeve.
3. Pull the insert tool out of the chuck.
7.4 Chiseling
-NOTE-
When working at low temperatures: The hammering
mechanismworksonlywhenthetoolhasreachedamin-
imumoperatingtemperature.Bringthedrillbitintocon-
tactwiththebasematerialandallowthetooltorununder
no load until the minimum operating temperature is
reached. If necessary, repeat this procedure until the
hammeringmechanism beginsto operate.

●Drillingmaycausesplintering of the
material.
●Splinters may cause injury to parts
of the body and eyes.
●Weareye protection,protectivegloves
and breathing protection if no dust
removal system is used.
-CAUTION-
●The tool and the drilling operation
emit noise.
●Excessivenoisemay damage the hear-
ing.

7.4.1 Switching on
1. Plug the supply cord into the electric socket.
2. Press the on/off switch.

8. Care and maintenance
Unplugthe supplycord fromthe mainssocket.
8.1 Care of insert tools
Clean off dirt and dust deposits and protect your insert
tools from corrosion by wiping them from time to time
withan oil-soakedrag.
8.1.1 Regrinding insert tools
Pointed,flatand wide-flat chisels canbereground when
slightly worn at the tip or cutting edge.
-NOTE-
Avoidoverheating thesurface of thechiselduring grind-
ing (no discoloration).
8.2 Care of the electric tool
Theoutercasing of the toolismadefrom impact-resis-
tantplastic.Sections of the griparemadefrom an elas-
tomer material.
Never operate the tool when the ventilation slots are
blocked.Cleanthe ventilation slots carefullyusinga dry
brush.Donotpermit foreign objects to entertheinterior
ofthetool. Clean the outsideofthe tool at regularintervals
using a slightly damp cloth. Do not use a spray, steam
pressurecleaningequipment or running waterforcleaning.
Thismaynegatively affect the electricalsafetyofthe tool.
Always keep the grip surfaces of the tool free from oil
and grease. Do not use cleaning agents which contain
silicone.
8.3 Service indicator 
Thetool isequipped witha serviceindicator.
8.3.1 The service indicator lights
Thecarbon brusheshave reachedthe endof theirlife.
Thetoolcanbeoperatedforafurtherapprox.tenhours
after the service indicator lights, after which the auto-
matic cut-out will be activated. Please return the tool to
a Hilti service center in good time so that it is ready for
usewhen required.
8.3.2 The service indicator blinks
Anelectrical faulthas occurred.
The tool has been rendered inoperable and should be
returnedto aHilti repaircenter forservicing.
8.4 Maintenance
Checkallexternalpartsofthetoolfordamageatregular
intervals and check that all controls operate faultlessly.
Donotoperatethetoolifpartsaredamagedorwhenthe
controls do not function faultlessly. If necessary, your
electrictool shouldbe repairedat aHilti repaircenter.
Repairs to the electrical section of the tool may be car-
riedout onlyby trainedelectrical specialists.
8.5 Checks after care and maintenance
Aftercarrying out care andmaintenanceonthetool,check
that all protective equipment has been refitted and that
allitems functionfaultlessly.

10. Disposal
Most of the materials from which Hilti electric tools are manufactured can be recycled. The materials must be
correctlyseparatedbeforetheycanberecycled.Inmanycountries,Hiltihas already made arrangements for taking
back your old electric tools for recycling. Please ask your Hilti customer service department or Hilti representa-
tivefor furtherinformation.
Shouldyou wishto returnthe electrictool yourselfto adisposal facilityfor recycling,proceed asfollows:
Dismantle the electric tool as far as possible without the need for special tools. Use absorbent paper to wipe oily
partscleanandtocollectanygreasethatrunsout(totalquantity approx. 50 ml). This paper shouldalsobedisposed
of correctly. On no account should oil or grease be allowed to enter the waste water system or to find its way
into the ground.

11. Warranty
Hilti warrants that the tool supplied is free of defects in
materialandworkmanship.Thiswarrantyisvalidaslong
as the tool is operated and handled correctly, cleaned
and serviced properly and in accordance with the Hilti
operatinginstructions,allwarrantyclaimsaremadewithin
12months(unlessothermandatorynationalregulations
prescribealongerminimumperiod)fromthedateofsale
(invoice date) and the technical system is maintained.
This means that only original Hilti consumables, com-
ponentsand spareparts maybe usedin thetool.
Thiswarrantyprovidesthefree-of-chargerepairorreplace-
ment of defective parts only. Parts requiring repair or
replacementas a resultof normal wearand tear arenot
coveredby thiswarranty.
Additional claims are excluded, unless stringent
national rules prohibit such exclusion. In particular,
Hilti is not obligated for direct, indirect, incidental or
consequential damages, losses or expenses in con-
nectionwith,orbyreasonof,theuseof,orinabilityto
use the tool for any purpose. Implied warranties of
merchantabilityorfitnessforaparticularpurposeare
specifically excluded.
Sendthetooland/orrelatedpartsimmediatelyupondis-
covery of a defect to the local Hilti marketing organisa-
tionfor repairor replacement.
This constitutes Hilti’s entire obligation with regard to
warrantyand supersedes all prior or contemporaneous
comments and oral or written agreements concerning
warranties.
