5.2 Take the necessary precautions to make the
workplace safe
●Ensurethat theworkplace iswell lit.
●Ensurethat theworkplace iswell ventilated.
●Keeptheworkingarea tidy. Objectswhichcouldcause
injury should be removed from the working area.
●When working, keep other persons, particularly chil-
dren,outside therange ofthe tool.
●Avoidunfavorablebody positions.
●Weareye protection.Wearbreathing protectionwhen
the work creates dust.
●Wearnon-slipshoes and alwayswork from a secure
stance.
●Wear protective gloves.
●Donotwearlooseclothing,looselonghairorjewelry
asthese canbecome caughtup inmoving parts.
●To avoid tripping and falling whenworking,alwayslead
the supply cord, extension cord and extraction hose
awayto therear.
●Concealedelectriccablesorgasandwaterpipespre-
sentaserioushazardifdamagedwhileyouarework-
ing.Accordingly, checktheareainwhichyouarework-
ing beforehand (e.g. using a metal detector). Avoid
contact between your body and earthed / grounded
objects,suchaspipesorradiators.Externalmetalparts
ofthetoolmaybecomelive,forexample,whenanelec-
triccable isdrilled intoinadvertently.

5.3 General safety precautions
●Operate the tool only as directed and only when it is
in faultless condition.
●Take thesurroundingconditions into account. Donot
expose the tool to rain or snow and do not use it in
damp or wet areas. Do not use the tool where there
is a risk of fire or explosion.
●Neverleave thetool unsupervised.
●Thesidehandlemustalwaysbefittedwhenthetoolis
inuse.
●Thetool isfor hand-helduse only.
●Holdtheside-handlesecurelyattheendfurthestfrom
thetool.
●Keep the tool, especially its grip surfaces, clean and
freefrom oiland grease.
●Whennotinuse,thetoolmustbestoredinadryplace,
lockedup orout ofreach ofchildren.
●Disconnectthesupplycordplugfromthesocketwhen
thetoolisnotinuse(e.g.duringbreaks,beforemain-
tenanceand beforechanging inserttools).
●Take care of your insert tools. Youwillbeabletowork
moreefficientlyand more safely iftheinsert tools are
keptsharpandclean.Observeinstructionsoncareand
maintenanceand onchanging inserttools.
●Donot overloadthe tool.It willwork moreefficiently
and more safely within its intended performance
range.
5.3.1 Mechanical
●Observe the instructions concerning care and main-
tenanceandreplacementofinserttoolsingoodtime.
●Ensurethattheinserttoolsusedareequippedwiththe
correctconnectionendsystemandthattheyareprop-
erlyfitted andsecured inthe chuck.
5.3.2 Electrical
●Check the condition of the tool including the supply
cord and extension cord as well as the plug connec-
tions.Donotoperatethetoolifdamageisfound,ifthe
tool is not complete or if its controls cannot be oper-
atedfaultlessly.
●Donot touch the supply cord in the event ofit suffer-
ingdamagewhileworking.Disconnectthesupplycord
plugfrom thesocket.
●DamagedswitchesmustbereplacedataHiltiservice
center.Donot use thetool if it cannotbe switched on
andoff correctly.
●Thetoolshouldberepairedbyatrainedelectricalspe-
cialist(Hilti servicecenter).
●Nevercarrythe tool by the supply cord.
●Grip the plug and not the supply cord when pulling it
outof thesocket.
●Do not expose the supply cord to heat, oil or sharp
edges.
●When working outdoors, use only extension cords
approvedandcorrespondinglymarkedassuitablefor
outdooruse.
●To avoid a risk of accident, use only original Hilti spare
parts.
●Never operate the tool when it is dirty or wet. Dust or
dampness on the surface of the tool make it difficult
to hold and, under unfavorable conditions, may lead
toelectric shocks.
5.3.3 Thermal
●Theinserttoolmaybecomehotduringuse.Youshould
thereforewearprotectivegloveswhenchanginginsert
tools.
