1 Safety Instructions
WARNING
Imminent threat of personal injury and damage to property due to incorrect system settings!
The correct adjustment of the Rated Capacity Limiter (RCL) to the current set-up status is
essential for the correct function of the system and of the machine.
The RCL can only operate correctly if all settings are entered correctly according to the
current set-up status during the SETUP procedure.
The settings can only be carried out by operators who are completely familiar with the oper-
ation and functions of the machine and the RCL.
The correctness of these settings must be guaranteed before starting the machine opera-
tions!
CAUTION
The user limit function is a monitoring function.
Crane movements are not switched off when user limit values are reached or exceeded!
If one or more limits are reached or exceeded, the background color of the LIM key changes
to yellow. The corresponding values are also displayed in yellow. The audible alarm will not
activate!
IMPORTANT
Connection to the wrong power supply will cause damage to the device.
The device may only be connected to a DC voltage source of 10 V to 30 V!
1.1 EC conformity declaration

qSCALE i2 Cranes (Tool Version 3.0.34) Operators Manual / Issue B / 11-2017 / ac.
Product Description
The qSCALE i2 is the operable interface of the system (referred to below as the “RCL”) and is
used for selecting and entering operating parameters and displaying the current crane operating
and system data.
The RCL detects the readings from different sensors and recognises crane overload statuses de-
pending on different parameters. Visual and audible signals alert the user of the overload status.
This manual describes the operation and functions of the Hirschmann qSCALE i2 overload protec-
tion system.
NOTE
The qSCALE i2 contains several menus where queries and settings can be made only after
entering a password. The description of these functions is not part of this user manual.
The overload protection system consists of the following components:
a qSCALE i2 central control unit with built-in display and operating elements:
a cSCALE DIO CAN I/O extension module:
various sensors for data measurement
The system components are installed in suitable positions onto or inside the crane.

1.3 Use for the Intended Purpose
The qSCALE i2 console is the interface of the Rated Capacity Limiter system (RCL).
The RCL detects a crane overload status depending on various parameters.
The crane operator is warned well before the onset of an overload status via visual and audible
warning signals.
Although the system has signal outputs to switch off the crane movements, this power-off is effec-
tive with corresponding external wiring.
Although the system incorporates functions for monitoring adjustable geometrical limit values with
visual and audible warnings and a relay output in the event of limit values being exceeded, the
system cannot be used as an operational limit switch.
The crane operator is responsible for the safe operation of the crane.

2 Operating Mode Selection
This chapter contains information, advice, and instructions for choosing an operating mode.
The RCL is only ready for operation after all the steps of the SETUP procedure have been com-
pleted.
2.1 Switching the Device On and Off
The qSCALE i2 has no on/off switch. The system starts automatically after switching on the ignition.
After switching off the ignition, the system shuts down automatically.
Upon switching on, the system boots and starts with the system self-tests. During the tests the boot
screen is displayed. While the system is initializing sensors the splash screen appears.
If the system was switched off for longer than three hours, the Configure Operation Mode screen
appears automatically after the system self-tests (see Section 2.2.1).
The Configuration SETUP procedure is necessary to determine a valid operation mode correspond-
ing to the current rigging state of the crane. In case of hook operation mode, it is necessary to input
the actual part of lines (number of reeving, see Section 2.2.3). The main working screen is not able
to be entered if the reeving is not set!
After acknowledgment of the inputs, the system is ready for operation.

3.1.2 Warning Symbols
Various warning symbols are shown in the status line as required:
Early Overload Warning
When the machine load is or has already exceeded 85% of the safe working load this yellow
symbol flashes and a pulsating audible alarm is activated. An overload status may be imminent!
Overload Warning
When the machine is put into an overload situation, this symbol appears and an uninterrupted
audible alarm sounds.
RCL bypass
When the manual override is activated, these two symbols flash. No audible alarm is sounded.
This status is recorded in the data logger.
Stroke End (A2B)
When the system has two-blocked (stroke end) these two red symbols appear and an uninter-
rupted audible alarm is activated.
A stroke end status is recorded if the load block comes into contact with the boom head. There is
a danger in this case that the lifting rope will break and the load will drop. A stroke end state can
be caused by the load being pulled against the boom head or the boom being extended or low-
ered without playing out the lifting rope.
3.1.3 Audible Alarm
The audible alarm sounds in the following cases:
System test, overload status, RCL system fault, and operating errors detected by the system.
Mute the audible alarm for a short time by pressing the function key:
or .
The audible alarm will sound again until the cause of the alarm is resolved.
