ADEMCO 5828/5828V
Wireless Bidirectional Fixed-Word Keypads
Installation and Setup Guide
GENERAL INFORMATION
The ADEMCO 5828 and 5828V are wireless, bidirectional,
fixed-word, ke pads that ma be used in conjunction with
LYNX and VISTA series residential control panels. VISTA
s stems require use of either a 5883 Transceiver (micro P/N
WAK5119-X, where X = 3 or higher), 6150RF Ke pad/
Transceiver (PC board P/N SA6150RFAS-T3 or higher), or
6160RF Ke pad/Transceiver. The 5828/5828V ke pads are
not compatible with commercial control panels that have
three-digit zone numbers (e.g., VISTA128BPT).
Both ke pads provide:
•Four programmable special function ke s
•Wall-mount plate for eas removal of the ke pad and
batter replacement
•Optional Desktop mount /AC adapter kit, ADEMCO
P/N 5828DM)
•Batter -powered with 3-AA batteries
The 5828V ke pad additionall provides:
•Memo/Message center
•Voice Response – s stem status, zone information, and
alarms with zone information
•Stored Message LED indication
•Built-in microphone and speaker
NOTES:
•The 5828/5828V cannot be used as the primar s stem
ke pad, and ma not be used to program or test an
securit s stem. All s stems require a hardwired
ke pad (or Compass Downloader) to do so. Once
programmed, the 5828/5828V can be used to initiate all
common functions of a fixed word ke pad.

WALL MOUNTING
Before mounting the 5828 & 5828V permanently, determine
a good RF location as follows:
•If using with a LYNX panel, tr communicating with the
panel from different locations.
•If using with a VISTA panel, perform a Go/No Go test
from the panel. Refer to the Go/No Go test mode in the
Installation and Setup Guide for the panel.
Avoid mounting locations on or near large metal objects,
since these can decrease the transmission range or block
transmissions.
•Secure the mounting plate to the wall using proper sized
hardware through the six mounting holes.
•Plug the cord from the optional power pack into the
ke pad’s DC input connector, and route the wires
through the wire guides on the back of the ke pad.
•Position the ke pad over the mounting plate and slide
down, engaging the four retaining clips on the plate with
the receptacles on the ke pad.

POWER CONNECTIONS
In a t pical configuration, the 5828 and 5828V ke pads are
powered b 3-AA batteries.
The 5828 and 5828V ke pads can also be powered from an
optional Power Pack/Desktop Mounting Kit. See detailed
specifications for the Kit on the next page.
It is recommended that three AA batteries be installed as a
backup power source when using the Power Pack/Desktop
Mounting Kit.
SUPERVISION
A 5828/5828V ke pad low batter condition will be
displa ed as “BAT” on Zone “00” until the batter drops
below a minimum level and the displa goes blank.
The 5828/5828V does not displa three-digit conditions, such
as a ke pad or receiver supervision failure. It will onl
displa the last two digits of the supervision zone number.
Therefore, it is recommended for VISTA-10P/15P/20P and
variants that ou set program field *199 (ECP Fail Displa )
as a “1”
(two-digit displa ). This will cause the ke pad to
displa Zone 91 as a supervision failure of an device on the
ke pad (ECP) bus.
NOTE: When programming zone descriptors in the panel, ou must select from words supported b both the 5828V
(shown in Table 1 below) and words supported b the control panel. If ou use an other words, the 5828V will not

zone descriptors.

1.
If installing a Lynx series system, please note that compound zone descriptors supported
by the Lynx such as “living
room” are not supported on the 5828V, and should be programmed as two single words, “living” and “room.” Also
note that the Lynx Voice Prompt Programming mode uses these compound words when applicable. These words
should be reprogrammed as two single words in order to be announced by the 5828V.
2. When using a VISTA-40 or VISTA-50P control panel, you must program zone descriptors in order for the panel to
announce the zone status correctly.
