Overview and
General Concepts
The E529.4G battery-operated wireless RF thermostat works in conjunction
with an HVAC controller partner such as an INNCOM X47 or X07.P to monitor
and maintain room temperature. The E529.4G has an onboard temperature
and optional humidity sensor to measure room temperature and humidity and
reports this information to the HVAC controller partner physically connected to
the room HVAC unit. The E529.4G has no onboard relays or HVAC control
logic to control the room HVAC unit. It can only measure temperature an
optionally humidity and report this to its HVAC controller partner.
The E529.4G has no IR Eye or S5-Bus installed and only communicates with
other devices via RF. The HVAC partner in the room must be equipped with a
Deep Mesh Layer-X radio, or S5 Bus connected to a radio equipped device
such as a PC502.4G. Appendix 4 shows typical installations using the
E529.4G. Figure 1 below shows a typical E529.4G installation.
Since the E529.4G has a user interface, it can also be used to configure in-
room devices that do not have a user interface such as an X47, PC502.4G or
X07.P. The E529.4G is routinely used as a commissioning tool.

Application
In its most basic form, the battery powered e529 functions as a programmable
DDC thermostat, automatically adjusting fan speeds and valves to achieve set
temperature (Note: Guests can manually select heat or cool by pressing the
OFF/AUTO button and cycling through OFF, AUTO, HEAT and COOL). The
e528 is also an “intelligent” device capable of linking ancillary sensors and
serving as an information gateway. For example, coupled with a magnetic door
switch (wired or wireless), motion detectors, and other devices, the e528
becomes the brain of a highly effective Energy Management System (EMS)
application, communicating EMS information requirements to central servers. It
comes standard with five relays and can be equipped with a radio frequency
(RF) transceiver and Passive Infrared (PIR) motion detector.
The e529 interfaces with all common HVAC unit voltage configurations (24 volt
to 277 volt). The e529 can be installed in a wireless INNCOM guestroom
control system, which makes installation feasible and affordable in either new
construction or retrofit installations.
Through interfaces with other devices and sensors, the e529 supports the
following functions:

button allows the guest to voluntarily enable ecoMode
which opens the un-occupied temperature control band
used by +/- 1 degrees (default value is 1 but can be
increased)

LCD Item Descriptions
1. Low Battery Indicator: Displays icon when AA Battery
voltage < 4 Volts
2. ecoMODE selected: Guest has pressed the green eco
button to place the room in ecoMODE

being monitored is open

DOES NOT currently work if using a CBL32 Room
Gateway such as an E528.4G or PC502.4G. You will
NOT get a Dot on the E529 display. You must use the
E529 rUn2 WAN Test to check that the room is
connected to the network
7. HVAC Control Mode: AUTO displayed when HVAC
control is in AUTO Mode.
8. Fan Speed (LO, MED or HI): Displayed when FAN
button has been pressed to select a manual Fan
Speed.

Installation
CAUTION!
•The E529.4G is intended for indoor use only.
•The E529.4G installer must be a trained, experienced service
technician.
•All wiring must comply with local codes and ordinances.
•Failure to follow the instructions provided with the product could
damage the product or cause a hazardous condition.
Placement
Since the E529.4G has the sensor to measure room temperature, it should
be installed in a location that represents the desired room temperature. In
addition, select a location that minimizes exposure to conditions that interfere
with room temperature measurement, such as away from external doors or
windows and areas in direct sunlight.
RF is critical to the E529.4G’s operation, so placement of the device and
careful consideration of possible sources of radio interference are important.
For instance, the unit should not be placed close to floor or ceiling or near pipe
or other metallic items.
Mounting Instructions
1. Separate the E529.4G body and the mounting plate by pulling the bottom
of the mounting plate away from the E529.4G body and then pull the
mounting plate down. NOTE: If the back-mounting plate is rotated more
than 2 or 3 degrees, the plastic tabs at the top of the plate may fracture
or break off.
2. Attach the mounting plate to the wall or electrical box with the arrow
embossed on the mounting plate pointing upward. The E529.4G is
provided with four 6-32 ¾” sheet metal screws for mounting the plate to
an existing 4” × 4” electrical box. If attaching the mounting plate to
sheetrock or a similar wall surface, install four 6-8 × ¾ anchors. The four
holes on the mounting plate can be used to mark the location for the
anchors.
3. Install the four AA alkaline batteries (NOTE: Use alkaline batteries only)
provided into the battery compartment located on the rear of the
E529.4G. Depress the battery clamp latch at the top of the battery
compartment and then swing open the battery clamp. Insert the 4 AA
alkaline batteries, matching the “+” terminals on the batteries to the “+”
symbols in the battery compartment. Close the battery clamp and verify
the latch is securely fastened.
4. Verify that the E529.4G display is now showing information. At power ON
(ie inserting the 4 AA batteries), confirm all segments and characters are
displayed on the E529 LCD display. If the display is blank, verify that the

batteries are completely installed with the right polarities and that the
batteries are not dead. Just after startup the E529 will cycle through RF
Channels 26, 25, 24… all the way to 11 and send a 0x00061 Battery
Powered thermostat exchange message on each RF Channel looking for
a reply from an HVAC thermostat partner with the same Room ID
currently stored in the E529.4G. You will typically not have the HVAC
partner configured yet. Just allow this process to continue until
completion. You will be configuring the actual Room ID and other
required parameters into the E529.4G later.
5. Hook the tabs at the top rear of the E529.4G housing into the matching
depressions at the top of mounting plate and rotate the bottom of the
E529.4G housing toward the wall until it snaps into the place on the
mounting plate. Secure the E529.4G housing to the mounting plate with
the two small screws provided with the E529.4G. The screws thread into
two small holes on the bottom of the E529.4G housing.
