This manual describes the operation of the Turbidity meter , HU-200TB SS-120.
Be sure to read this manual before using the product to ensure proper and safe operation of

Safety Precautions
This section provides precautions to enable you to use the product safely and correctly and to
prevent injury and damage. The terms of DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION indicate the
degree of imminency and hazardous situation. Read the precautions carefully as it contains
important safety messages.
WARNING
To connect any load exceeding the contact capacity or any induction load (e.g., a motor or a pump),
be sure to use a power relay exceeding the load rating.
If there is a possibility of a lightning strike, install an arrester on the output side of the converter and on
the side of receiving instruments.
Be sure to ground the grounding terminal (class D grounding).
Electric shock hazard
Be sure to check that no power is supplied before starting work.
An unexpected motion may result in damage to the unit or injury. Be sure to turn OFF the power at the
time of replacement.
Do not turn ON the automatic cleaner while a turbidity detector is filled with water and a valve is
closed. The automatic cleaner may become faulty.
CAUTION
The operation of this equipment at any voltage outside the rated range may damage the equipment.
It is recommended that any fluctuations in power supply voltage fall within a range of ±10%.
When the power source of the instrument is OFF, the C-NC contact is short-circuited. Therefore, be
careful about the connection of load.
If there is any corrosive gas in the installation environment, send clean instrumentation air through the
air purge inlet on the HU-200TB SS-120.
Operation outside the rated range can cause a fault. Therefore, check the power supply voltage.
Wear protective equipment and safety glasses when using chemicals.
Replace desiccants at regular intervals. In particular, cooled water cannot be correctly measured due
to condensation.

Use of the equipment in a manner not specified by the manufacturer may impair the protection
provided by the equipment. And it may also reduce equipment performance.
Therefore, exercise the following precautions:

Overview
Overview of equipment
Thank you very much for purchasing the HU-200TB SS-120 industrial-use turbidity meter.
This turbidity meter consists of a HU-200TB converter and a SS-120 distribution type turbidity
detector. This turbidity meter can measure a wide range of turbidities from low concentration
to high concentration with high accuracy through the 90-degree light absorption-scattering
method. Standard substances of turbidity are selectable from among Formazin, Kaolin, and
Polystyrene Latex (PSL).
The SS-120 detector for the HU-200TB SS-120 industrial-use turbidity meter can measure a
turbidity with high stability because the fluctuations in light intensity and the changes in
sensitivity of the detector are eliminated by using two LED light sources (660 nm) and two
photo detectors.
With its enhanced self-diagnosis capabilities, the status of this equipment is diagnosed at all
times.
The automatic cleaner (optional) for the SS-120 detector automatically cleans the dirt on the
inner surface of the cell which interfere with measurement. The operations such as the data
transfer of turbidity measurements and cleaning directives are carried out through
communications among the converter, the turbidity detector and the automatic cleaner. The
exclusive-use cable contains 5 wires for the 12 V DC power source, two-line communications,
and grounding.
If an automatic cleaner is installed, the length of the cable leading to the converter is 5 m. If an
automatic cleaner is not used, the cable can be extended up to 50 m.
Optional products offered by HORIBA Advanced Techno: the span calibration unit that can be
used in place of a standard solution at the time of span calibration; the piping unit that is used
to combine standard type pipes; and the filter unit that is used to prepare zero water.

JDescription of operation keys
The operation keys are used to toggle between displayed information, to enter any setting
values, or to perform calibration work.
When the indication is blinking, the figures and parameters can be changed.
Use the ▲/▼(UP/DOWN) key to select a blinking value or item, and then press the ENT key.
The setting will flash and then be established.
Note
Do not press any operation key with the tip of your fingernail or any pointed object.

Description of operation modes and menu items
This equimment offers three types of operation modes and four types of menus.
QOperation mode
Meas. mode
In this mode, samples are measured, and transmission signals and relays are controlled.
Cal mode
This mode allows you to perform zero calibration and span calibration.
The Calibration menu can be also used to perform a calibration.
Hold mode
In this mode, measurements are stopped to use the Setting menu, the Calibration menu or
the User Check menu to carry out processing.
QMenu
The following menus are available at the lower levels of the hierarchy of the Hold mode and
the Meas. mode.
For selecting each mode or item, see the corresponding paragraph.
Meas. mode
Cal/Control Value Setting menu
This menu allows you to check the calibrated value or to set/change some controlled values
while checking the output.
Hold mode

Prior to operation, this menu allows you to set all the measurement-related parameters, such
as the detector information input and the allocation output.
Cal menu (CAL)
This menu is used to perform zero calibration or span calibration of the turbidity detector.
User Check menu (USr)
This menu allows you to check the output status, the measured value, and other data. The set
values can be reset to the factory settings.

Installation environment
To ensure the stable use of the HU-200TB SS-120 condition, install the HU-200TB SS-120 in
a location that meets the following requirements.
QInstrument mainframe
zThe location should be well ventilated to prevent build-up of moisture.
zThe ambient temperature should be between −20°C and 55°C.
zThe HU-200TB SS-120 should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
zThe HU-200TB SS-120 should not be exposed to direct high radiation heat.
zThe relative humidity should be 90% or lower.
zThe HU-200TB SS-120 should not be exposed to splashed water or chemical agent.
zThe mechanical vibration in the location should be minimal.
zThe location should have adequate space to allow maintenance and wire connecting
work.
zThe location should be free from dust and corrosive gas.
zThe location should be minimally affected by an electromagnetic fields.
zThe altitude should be no more than 2000 m.
zThe range of fluctuations in supply voltage should be within 100 V to 240 V AC ±10%.
QDetector
zThe location should have adequate space to allow for checking and maintenance of the
detector.
zSpilled water should not adversely affect the location.
zUtilities should be made available for zero water.
zMeasured liquids should be those that will not damage the portion of the detector that
comes into contact with the liquid.
zSample must not freeze.
zFor an automatic cleaner, a 5 m cable can be connected between the automatic cleaner
and the converter.
Note
If measurements are made without depressurizing a pressurized sample, water may leak from the
pressure releasing hole. This is not an abnormality.
