INSTALLATION AND SET UP
Hortitek Defender ballasts are designed for ease of use. Installation is com-
plete in only 4 steps:
1. Mount the ballast in a dry, well-ventilated area that is free from dust and dirt.
The built-in hanging tab can be used to securely mount the ballast to a wall.
2. Connect the ballast to the lamp using the output lead.
3. Connect the ballast to a suitable power source.
4. Start gardening!
IMPORTANT NOTES
Only use this ballast with lamps of the same type and power rating as printed
on the ballast housing.
Only connect this ballast to the power source for which it was designed. This
information is printed on the ballast housing.
The recommended length of the cable from the ballast to the lamp socket
should not exceed 15m.
Provide better ventilation to the ballast and remove any obstructions that
may block airflow.
Check that all connections are secure.
Check that the equipment (including the ballast, light assembly and power
socket) do not show signs of damage or wear.
THERMAL OVERLOAD PROTECTION
All Hortitek Defender Magnetic Ballasts are fitted with Thermal Overload
Protection devices that will trip in the event of extreme ambient temperatures
or equipment failure. These devices help to ensure safe operation of the
ballast.
If the Thermal Overload Protection device is tripped, the button on the front of
the ballast housing will pop out. Pressing this button back in will reset the
Thermal Overload Protection device.
Before resetting the Thermal Overload Protection device:

SPECIFICATIONS
If the device was tripped with low heat, loose connections or damaged
equipment, the ballast may be faulty and require repairs by an authorised
repairer. In these circumstances, the Thermal Overload Protection device
should not be reset.
Do not power on the ballast without having securely connected a light
assembly (including a lamp) to the lamp supply lead.
When powering on the ballast, ensure that the lamp is igniting successfully. If
it fails to ignite, turn the power off immediately and inspect the lamp for signs
of faults. If the lamp is without defects, disconnect the ballast from the power
immediately as it may be faulty.
To avoid ballast failure, do not stack ballasts or obstruct the ventilation
louvres.
The ballast should be operated in a dry, well-ventilated, dust-free area.
Suitable for indoor use only.
Do not carry the ballast by the power leads.
Ensure all power lead connections are secure and that all cables are
positioned safely.
Do not attempt to open, rewire or reconfigure this ballast. This will void the
warranty and may cause serious injury or death.
