Introduction
Introduction
This section introduces the Model C200 to a Model C240 upgrade.
Upgrading your Model C200 to a Model C240
Your upgrade kit contains a C240 CPU Board, which, when installed,
upgrades your Model C200 to a Model C240.
NOTE: Installing this upgrade in your Model C200 does not affect the regulatory and safety
classifications or approvals. The upgraded system meets all of the regulatory and
safety standards listed in Appendix A of your original owner’s guide.
Installation Prerequisites
Before upgrading your Model C200 to a Model C240, your current system
must be running HP-UX 10.20 or greater with Additional Core Enhance-
ments (ACE) for Workstations.

Upgrade Instructions Overview
The general steps for performing the upgrade are outlined as follows and
should be performed in the sequence listed. Refer to the individual sections
of this guide for the actual step-by-step procedures for upgrading the C200
to a C240.
1Prepare your workstation
• Determine and WRITE DOWN the graphics configuration of your system.
• Determine and WRITE DOWN the LAN ID of your system. You will need
to re-enter it in the new system board.
• Power off the workstation and any peripherals.
• Unplug the power cords and disconnect any peripheral cables.
• Remove the floor stand.
2Remove the main tray assembly.
3Remove the C200 CPU board from the main tray assembly.
4Transfer the memory modules from the C200 CPU board to the C240 CPU board.
5Place the C240 CPU board in the main tray assembly.
6Place the new main tray assembly into the workstation chassis.
7Connect power cords and cables, restart the workstation, and enter the LAN ID if
prompted.

Preparing Your Workstation
Before starting the upgrade, use the following procedure to prepare the
workstation:
1The workstation must be running HP-UX 10.20 or later with Additional Core En-
hancements (ACE) to accommodate the C240 upgrade. If the workstation is run-
ning an older version of HP-UX, update the operating system software before
continuing. Run swlist as super user to view what software products are loaded
in your system. If the product list includes B6193AA, you do not need to update
HP-UX.
2Determine the workstation’s LAN ID by entering the following command:
/usr/sbin/lanscan
The output is similar to the following:

Record the LAN ID here. You will need it after installing the new system
board:
Enter LAN ID: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ -___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
You must supply the dash (-) between the first six digits and the last six digits.
Using the above output example, the LAN ID is 080009-70ECC0.
After you install the new CPU board or I/O board and power on the system for
the first time, you will be prompted for the LAN ID.
3Log out of your system and enter a command line session as follows:
HP VUE: At the login window, select Options, then select No Windows.
HP CDE: At the login window, select Option, then select
Command Line Login.
4Power off your workstation by pressing the power button on the front panel.
When you press the power button, the workstation automatically shuts down the
operating system before it powers off the system.

5When the workstation has completed shutting down, power off the monitor, and
any peripheral devices connected to the workstation.
WARNING: To avoid electrical shock, make sure you unplug the power cable from
the wall outlet and the system unit before proceeding any further.
6Unplug the power cord of the system unit, the monitor, and any peripheral devic-
es from AC wall outlets.
7Unplug the power cord from the back of the system unit.
8If your monitor is sitting on top of the system unit, remove the monitor from the
top of the system unit and set it aside.
CAUTION: Remove the monitor from the top of the system unit to prevent possible damage to
the system unit or the monitor while performing this upgrade.

9Remove the floor stand from the system unit, as shown in Figure 1.

10 Lay the system unit on a flat surface, such as a table top.
11 Attach a static-grounding wrist strap to bare metal on the back of the system unit.

CAUTION: The internal components of your workstation are susceptible to mechanical and
electrostatic shock. To prevent such damage from occurring, observe the following
precautions during the installation procedure:
Stand on a static-free mat (if available).
Wear a static-grounding wrist strap to ensure that any accumulated
electrostatic charge discharges from your body to ground. Attach the static-
grounding wrist strap by following the instructions on the package that
contains the strap. Be sure to attach one end of the strap to the system
chassis.

Once you have prepared the workstation, you need to remove the main tray
from the system unit, as described in the following procedure:
CAUTION: Do NOT attempt to remove the main tray assembly when the workstation is in a
vertical orientation.
1Completely loosen the five thumb screws on the rear of the system unit, as shown
in Figure 2.

2Place one hand on the top of the system unit and apply pressure to prevent the
system unit from moving, while pulling the handle on the rear panel with your
other hand. See Figure 2.
3Slide the main tray assembly out of the chassis.

Perform the following steps to remove the C200 CPU board from the system
unit:
1Remove the Main Tray Assembly.
2Remove the two CPU board retaining screws, as shown in Figure 3.
3Pull the two ejector handles at the same time, as shown in Figure 3.

4Slide the CPU board out approximately one inch, then lift it straight up to re-
move it. Be sure to support the board under the heat sink or you will damage
the CPU board.
