Redesigned from the inside out
Take a quick look at the competitively priced HP Compaq LE1901wl
and you might not notice a difference from previous 19 -inch
diagonal models, but power it on and you’ll soon realize that the
panel is a WLED (white light emitting diode; white LED) backlit
panel instead of the standard CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp)
panel found in prior models. You may be familiar with these terms,
but what makes a white LED panel different from a CCFL panel?
One of the biggest differences is that a WLED panel does not
contain mercury. In contrast, a CCFL panel houses a small amount
of the element, so when the time comes to replace your monitor,
you can feel good about your recycling efforts.
Additionally, WLEDs are solid state components, which can make
them more resistant to damage caused by external shock vs. the
glass tubes within CCFL monitors. This may be useful in mobile
office environments where monitors are often re-tasked.
