For firmware versions 5.10 and later, this Latest News supplements
the other documents distributed with your HP SureStore
CD/DVD-ROM Server (HP J3278B, J4150A, J4152A).
Note for Upgrades ❏This release 5.10 can be used to upgrade only the releases
starting with 5.00. It cannot be used with releases starting
with version 4.00, since they run on different hardware such as
HP J3168A, J3169A, J3276A, J3277A, J3278A
SureStore CD-ROM Server/Tower. Your existing firmware
version is identified on the Administration web page for
This Server, when the server is highlighted (and in the
config.ini file in the ServerProperties folder in the
System folder).
AFP Protocol Support for Apple Macintosh
The HP SureStore CD-DVD/ROM Server now supports the
AppleTalk Filing Protocol (AFP) over AppleTalk with EtherTalk,
and over TCP/IP. Any Macintosh client using the native Macintosh
network access tools (such as Chooser) can access any Hierarchical
File System (HFS) CD or DVD on the HP server. These Macintosh
protocols are supported simultaneously with the other protocols
such as IPX/SPX, Microsoft networking, NFS, TCP/IP and HTTP.
Other
Features Supported operating systems include Mac OS 7.x, 8.x, and
MacOS X Server using AppleShare 3 or later.
Discs written in HFS or ISO9660 format, or both, can be shared.
So, both PC and Macintosh clients may be given access to the same
disc. Data and applications designed only for one operating system
may not be usable by other platforms; however, some files types
such as Microsoft Word or Excel, or graphics formats such as PDF
and EPS, can be used by both platforms. (Conversion of data
between Macintosh and PC formats is not provided.)
HFS-formatted discs can be cached on the HP J4150A
SureStore CD-ROM Server Plus.
You can configure the AppleTalk zone(s) in which the server is
to appear.

How to Use the
Documentation This section describes how to set up the server for Apple Macintosh
clients on networks using the AppleTalk Filing Protocol (AFP) over
AppleTalk and EtherTalk. It describes the procedures for accessing
the server from a Macintosh client, for configuring the server
specifically for your network, and for setting up additional
Macintosh clients for access. This section has information that
fulfills a function similar to that served by chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 in
the User’s Guide.
If your network runs AFP over TCP/IP, then you can assign an
IP address to the server, you can configure and administer the
server using a web browser, and you can access the server’s files
from each Macintosh client using a web browser as well as the
Chooser. For instructions, begin with this Latest News instead of
beginning with the procedures in the User’s Guide in chapter 3,
“Setup for IP Networks and HTTP”.
Reference on Server File System. Different workstations need
different points of access to the server. The network administrator
or installer, for example, needs access to configure and monitor the
server and to configure access rights. Then, the administrator may
want to set up all the clients with access to the discs but without
access to the configuration files stored on the server. Please refer to
the description of access points and the file system used on the
server, in the reference chapter 7 in the User’s Guide.
Server Setup Procedure for Administrator Access and
IP Address Setting
1. On a Macintosh, open the Chooser from the Apple menu.
2. Click the AppleShare icon.

3. From the Select a file server list, select the entry for your new
HP server. The default server name is HP
hhhhhh _AT, where
hhhhhh
are the last six digits of the server’s MAC address. The
MAC address is displayed on the LAN Address label on top of the
tower. (The server name can be changed later during
configuration.) Click [OK].
If the AppleTalk protocol is not running on this Macintosh, then
the server will not be listed in the Select a file server list. In
this case, click [Server IP Address...], enter the IP address
assigned to the server, and click [Connect].
4. Select Registered User for administrative access. By default, the
user name is set to root and the password is set to pass. Enter
them and click [Connect].
5. Select the System folder and click [OK].
6. Open the System icon created on the desktop and open the
ServerProperties folder.
7. Open the config.ini file.
8. Go to the “[IP]”section and change the “InternetAddress”
setting shown to the IP address assigned to the HP server.

9. Go to the “[Server]”section and set “Restart = yes”to restart
the server.
Note ❏In this file, you must leave at least one space before and after
the equals sign (=) .
10. Select Save from the File menu.
You will lose connection to the System folder when the server
restarts. When restarting is finished you will see a dialog box
asking for confirmation of the message that the server’s
connection has unexpectedly closed down. Click [OK].
The System folder will disappear from the desktop. Go on to the
next procedure.
Procedure for Server Configuration Using the Wizard
After you have set the IP address using the previous procedure, the
server configuration can be customized most easily by using web
pages for Administrator access. You must be running TCP/IP
on the
on the Macintosh as well as on the server. This procedure can also
be done in a similar way on a PC.
1. On the Macintosh, open the Internet browser.
2. Open the location with the server’s IP address as follows:
Alternatively, use the host name associated with the IP address
and assigned to the server.
You will see the initial server web page, as shown below.
3. Select the Quick Setup tab.

4. When prompted, enter the server username (default is root) and
password (default is pass). You will see the initial Quick Setup
configuration page, shown next.
5. Click on the Wizard icon. You will see the main Network Settings
Wizard page shown next.
6. On the main wizard page, select TCP/IP and click [Start >]. On the
subsequent TCP/IP Wizard—IP Addresses page,selectManually.
Click [Next >].

7. OntheTCP/IPWizard—ManualIPAddressespage, shown below,
beneath the IP address you set in step 8 of the procedure on
page 3, enter the subnet mask for your local network. (0.0.0.0
means that automatic router sensing is used.) Enter the default
router, or gateway. (0.0.0.0 means that no default router is set.)
Click [Next >].
8. On the “TCP/IP Wizard—DNS Parameters”page, if you have a
DNS server, set the domain name and the primary and secondary
DNS servers. Click [Next >].
9. On the next web page, if you are using a WINS server, select
Enable WINS Resolution and supply the WINS server
IP addresses. Click [Next >].
10. On the last page, click Finish.
11. On the main Wizard page, select Macintosh (AFP) and
click [Start >]. You will see the Name page.
12. Enter a server name to be presented to the Macintosh clients on
the network, if you wish to change the server name shown.
Click [Next >].

13. The network will be scanned for all available zones and they will
be listed for Zone. By default, the server will select the default
zone of the nearest router. To change it, select the preferred zone.
If no router is attached to this segment, you will see “No Zones
Available”for Zone. Click [Next >]. You will see the Protocols
page, shown next.
14. Select the protocol(s) currently being used on your network.
Click [Next >]. You will see the Finish page.
15. Click [Finish]. Click [Close], and you will return to the Quick Setup
configuration page. If you have made any changes, click [Restart
]Server] to put the changes into effect.
This restarts the server with the configuration changes and
returns you to the main Network Settings Wizard page (see
step 5 on page 5). When the Status indicator remains green
and the SCSI indicator is off, the server is ready for use. This
may take a few seconds to five minutes.
Return to the Quick Setup configuration page (see step 4 on
page 5) by clicking [Close].
The next procedure is used for some optional configuration.

Optional: Server Configuration Using Detailed View
On the Quick Setup configuration page (see step 4 on page 5), click
the Detailed View icon. You will see a page with tabs for each
protocol (shown below). These pages allow you to see and change
protocol configuration settings, which include all the settings that
were available to you in the wizard (the previous procedure starting
on page 4). Consider the following configuration items.
Disabling Access for Other Protocols. In the Detailed View
(from the Quick Setup page), you can switch off all protocols not
being used on your network.
You can disable Microsoft networking (SMB) access by using the
Windows (SMB) tab and disabling the NetBIOS Protocol Bindings
for both NetBEUI and TCP/IP. You can disable NetWare access by
using the NetWare tab and the Enable NetWare setting. You can
disable UNIX access to the server by using the UNIX (NFS) tab and
the Enable NFS setting.
Note ❏Do not disable Web (HTTP) access. Maintain administrative
access to the server using this web interface.
If you should ever need to disable Macintosh access to this server,
use the Mac (AFP) tab and the Enable AFP setting.
Click [OK] and you will return to the Quick Setup configuration
page. If you have made any changes, click [Restart Server] to put
these changes into effect.

Verifying Macintosh Settings. On the Quick Setup
configuration page (see step 4 on page 5), click on the Mac (AFP) tab
and verify the settings; they are the same ones available in the
wizard. See the illustration below. Click [OK] and you will return to
the Quick Setup configuration page. If you have made any changes,
click [Restart Server] to put the changes into effect.
Network Time Protocol. For automatic time synchronization you
can use the Network Time Protocol (NTP, as defined by RFC 1769).
Under the Administration tab, click [This Server] and with the
server module highlighted, click [Settings]. On the resulting
properties page, select the Date & Time tab. Select Automatically
and Network Time Protocol (NTP). Then for NTP Server, specify the
IP address or Internet domain name of the time server. Click [Save].
Server Password. To protect the system files, it is important that
you change the server password for the administrator’s web access.
(For example, users are prompted for the server password when
trying to access the Administration or Quick Setup web page for the
first time during a session.) Click on the Administration tab, click
[This Server] and with the server module highlighted, click [Settings].
On the resulting properties page, select the General tab. Change
and confirm the password. Click [Save]. This new password takes
effect without restarting the server.

Client Access to
Discs Procedure for Client Access to Discs
1. On a Macintosh, open the Chooser from the Apple menu.
2. Click the AppleShare icon. (See the illustration on page 2.)
•If the AppleTalk and EtherTalk protocols are enabled on
the server and client, then the HP server name should
appear in the Select a file server list. The default server
name is HP
hhhhhh _AT, where hhhhhh
are the last six digits
of the server’s MAC address. However, the server name
may have been changed during configuration. Select the
server and click [OK]. Skip to step 3.
•If the AppleTalk and EtherTalk protocols are not enabled,
and TCP/IP is enabled on both server and client, then the
server name will not appear in the Select a file server list.
In this case, click [Server IP Address...], enter the IP address
assigned to the server, and click [Connect].
3. For client access to files on the server’s discs (and not to the root
System configuration files), select Guest and click [Connect].
4. Click one of the discs available. Click [OK].
(The item System is grayed out because only the administrator
has access to the server’s system configuration files.)
