Q1. Which Processors are supported in the NetServer LC 2000
A1. The NetServer LC 2000 supports Intel Pentium III 533 MHz, P III 600 MHz, P III 667 MHz
and PIII 733 MHz processors.
Q2. What is new on the front panel of the NetServer LC 2000?
A2. qThe Power ON/Off/Sleep button
The power button acts as both a button for transitioning the system between the off and
on states, anda button for transitioning the system between the on and sleep state
(NOTE: The term "sleep" refers to a low latency, reduced power consumption, wake up
state. When the system detects activity it becomes fully functional).
qReset button
This switch is to reset the NetServer.
qKeyboard Lock button
Puts the NetServer in keyboard locked mode
qSecure Mode LED
This LED glows solid green when the NetServer is locked.
qReserved LED
This LED is reserved and not used in this release.
qPower ON/OFF/Sleep LED
This LED is solid green when powered ON and dark when powered OFF. The LED will
flash green when in inactive sleep state.
qOver temperature LED
This LED indicates green when normal, blinks red for an overheated condition and blinks
amber for warning temperature conditions.
qRPS LED
This LED indicates green when normal, blinks red for bad power supply and blinks
amber indicating a power supply not functioning correctly.
qFan Fail LED
This LED indicates green when normal, blinks red for non functional fan and blinks
amber for warning one of the fans may be turning too slowly.
qHard Disk Activity LED
This yellow LED indicator flashes during SCSI or IDE disk drive activity.
qPower Indicator LED
This green LED indicator remains steady on when the system is running, and off when
the system is off. This indicator blinks once per second in sleep mode.

Q4. What IDE devices come bundled in the NetServer LC 2000?
A4. The NetServer LC 2000 comes bundled with a 32x IDE CD-ROM drive. IDE hard drives are
not supported on LC 2000.
Q5. How many channels are on the embedded Ultra 2 SCSI controller?
A5. The Ultra 2 SCSI controller in the NetServer LC 2000 has two channels. Both Channel A
and Channel B have cables attached to them. Channel B is used to connect to Common Tray
devices using a self-terminated SCSI cable or to an external mass storage solution using
additional D8600A cable kit. Channel Ais connected to the Hot Swap hard disk cage.
Q6. What is the maximum number of common tray internal disk drives support in the NetServer
LC 2000?
A6. The self-terminating SCSI cable has two 68-pin high-density connectors. The two 5 ¼ front
accessible shelf can hold up to two devices. A maximum of two common tray internal disk
drives are supported on LC 2000.
One 68-pin connector can connect to the hard disk and one 68-pin connector with68 to 50 pin
adapter can connect to an SCSI tape drive. All systems are shipped with a 68 to 50pin
adapter pre installed on the SCSI cable.
Q7. What type of SCSI controller is embedded on the system board of the NetServer LC 2000?
A7. The NetServer LC 2000 has an embedded dual-channel Ultra 2 Wide PCI SCSI controller.
Channel A is used for cabling the optional hard disk drive and one more additional SCSI
drives (or optional SCSI tape drive). Channel A may be used to accommodate an external
mass storage solution (either requires an additional cable kit—D8600A). Channel B is
connected to Hot Swap drive cage.
Q8. What is the boot priority for bootable devices in the NetServer LC 2000?

On each controller, the server scans for a boot device starting at device ID 0 and works up the
ID numbers. The system’s embedded controller is always SCSI ID 7. The optional tape
drive is SCSI address ID 4. All accessory hard drives are set to SCSI ID 3 and should be
changed to unique address as new SCSI devices are added. All Hot-Swap hard disk SCSI ID
do not matter.
Q9. What is the kind of memory is used in the LC 2000? What is the maximum memory
configuration in the LC 2000?
A9. The LC 2000 uses ECC memory; 72 bit wide, 168-pin PC 133Mhz SDRAM HP DIMMs. LC
2000 has 4 DIMM slots. The LC 2000 ships with HP 128MB (D8265A) and also supports
64MB (D8264A), 256MB (D8266A), 512MB (D8267A) and 1GB (D8268A). The maximum
memory configuration is 4 GB. (4 x D8268A)

*Both SCSI channels (A and B) can support up to 7 devices, however there are only enough
internal storage shelves for 2 devices and up to 6 Hot-Swap HDD. Channel B is typically used
to install internal SCSI devises in shelf 2 and/or shelf 3 or for connecting external SCSI
devices.
Q11. What utility is used to configure the embedded SCSI controller configuration?
A11. The BIOS has the SCSI configuration utility. SCSI configuration is used for configuring
embedded SCSI controllers and devices connected to the SCSI controllers. Features provided
using this utility include the option of reassigning the designation of channel A and B, verify
or modify SCSI host adapter settings, to low-level format SCSI disks, or verify SCSI media.
Q12. Are High Voltage Differential (HVD) devices supported in the NetServer LC 2000?
A12. High Voltage Differential SCSI devices are not supported on the embedded SCSI bus. The
devices will be damaged if connected to the embedded SCSI bus.
Q13. What optional SCSI kits are available for the NetServer LC 2000?
A13. qHP NetServer LC 2000 SCSI Duplexing kit P/N D8280A
Use to mirror maximum of 3 + 3 hot swap drives on two different SCSI channels. This
requires a minimum of two hot swap hard disk drives and the Duplexing Kit.
The NetRAID 1Si/NetRAID 3Si with Duplexing kit can be used to duplex. For more
details please refer to Duplexing Kit manual
qHP NetServer LC 2000 Internal to External SCSI Cable kit P/N D8600A
The NetServer LC 2000 can be configured to extend one of its SCSI channels (typically
channel B) to an external connector. This allows you to connect additional external
mass storage devices to the second channel of the system’s embedded SCSI controller.
This requires the External SCSI Cable Kit.
Q14. Does the NetServer LC 2000 share interrupts?
A14. The IRQ settings are automatically assigned and don't require user intervention. The HP
NetServer provides various ways to automatically share interrupts in the NetServer. Each
device and slot can be assigned an individual interrupt, because no sharing is done at
hardware level. The sharing mode can be selected under the heading "PCI Device Settings"
in the Setup Utility. The IRQs are automatically assigned during boot up for each PCI slot
and embedded device in the NetServer, avoiding any IRQ conflicts and providing the best
performance. The NOS and plug-n-play assigns interrupts to devices. Sharing of IRQs can be
done at the NOS level. Refer to Chapter 10 of LC 2000/2000r Installation Guide,
"Configuring the HP NetServer," for more information. The document is also available from
the NetServer web site.
Q16. What is the slot architecture for the PCI Bus in the NetServer LC 2000?
A16. It supports six PCI accessory slots in the system, the NetServer LC 2000 has a two peer buses
and thus one can place any PCI card in any slot.

Q17. What is the PCI slot initialization order? What types of PCI cards are supported in these
slots?
A17. During system boot, the PCI slots are initialized in the following order:

Four PCI slots (P1-P4) support full-length 32-bit boards at a clock rate of 33 MHz. These
slots only support +5 VDC power and Universal boards. These slots have keys in the
upper half of the board slot to prevent 3.3Volt boards from being inserted into the slots.

Q18. Which Disk Array Controller (NetRAID) card is supported in the NetServer LC 2000?
Q18. HP recommends ONLY using the NetRAID 3Si (D5595A) and NetRAID 1Si (D2140A) PCI
board in the NetServer LC 2000. The NetRAID 1Si and NetRAID 3Si may be installed in
any PCI slots.
Q19. What are the supported video display modes? Is an IRQ assigned by default to embedded
video?

By default the IRQ for video is disabled.
Q20. What are the supported Network Operating Systems (NOS) on LC 2000?
A20. The LC 2000 supports Novell NetWare 4.2, 5 Microsoft Windows 4.0, Microsoft Windows
2000, Red Hat Linux, SCO OpenServer 5.0x and UnixWare. OS/2 is supported for big deals
only.
The automated NOS install using the HP NetServer Navigator CD is supported on Novell
NetWare 4.2, 5, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. Please also refer toDatasheet for more updated
list of supported NOS.
Q22. Will the old D5013A/B Network Interface Card (NIC) drivers (before version 3.1 or
4/23/1999) work on embedded LC 2000 NIC?
A22. No. The embedded NIC on LC 2000 requires drivers version 3.1 or dated 4/23/99 or from the
Navigator
CD E 10.10 or L.17.00. A D5013A/B NIC card can be added to the system for Adapter Fault
Tolerance (AFT).
Q23. What additional details are available on the exact purpose of the two LAN adapter LED’s?
i.e. Link and Activity, what behavior should be expected?
A23. SAME as the standard NIC card LEDs. Green link light indicates connectivity and green
activity flashes for activity.
Q24. Does the system support Wake-on-LAN?
A24. No, the system does not currently support wake-on-LAN functionality.
Q25. Sometimes after upgrading the system BIOS certain BIOS functions do not work properly.
A25. After upgrading the BIOS, enter the BIOS setup screen by pressing F2 during POST and then
press F9 to restore the BIOS defaults. Restart the system. If the system fails to boot to an
operating system it is probably because of the hard disk boot order. Enter setup again, correct
the hard disk the boot order and reboot.
