Description
This software package contains a refresh of SAN/iQ software for HP P4800 G2 storage systems.
Besides SAN/iQ, the following software is included:

Fixes
P4000 SAN/iQ 9.0 continues to report cache data lost after clearing the condition and rebooting
Workarounds
•Warnings in the kernel log or dmesg command output
When multiple bond interfaces are configured on an HP P4000 SAN/iQ software version 9.0
system with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet add-in card, the following kernel warnings appear in the /var/
log/kernel.error file or as a result of the dmesg command:
•proc_dir_entry 'net/bonding' already registered
•sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/class/net/bonding_masters'
These warning messages do not reflect any functional product issues and can be disregarded.
•lhnMessage portion of SNMP trap is unreadable
When P4000 SAN/iQ software version 9.0 is used with HP Systems Insight Manager
C06.02.00.00, systems configured with UTF-8 encoding or multibyte names for the management
group, cluster, volume, snapshot or iSCSI initiator node name display raw hex data rather than
legible text in the lhnMessage portion of an SNMP trap.
After receiving an SNMP trap where the lhnMessage portion is unreadable, confirm the system
has a corresponding object with a UTF-8 encoded or multibyte name. Use the Centralized Man-
agement Console (CMC) to identify any active alarms and review the event log for the associated
event and message. When feasible, UTF-8 encoded or multibyte names should be converted to
single-byte names.
•Storage System Command Line Interface does not display non-ASCII characters
The P4000 SAN/iQ 9.0 Storage System Command Line Interface (CLI) does not support non-ASCII
characters, including most Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters. These characters disappear
when entered into the SAN/iQ 9.0 Storage System CLI. Additionally, the characters may appear
corrupted (such as empty boxes or question marks) when the [output=xml] option is used.
Use the Windows P4000 Command Line Interface to enter non-ASCII inputs.
•Snapshot fails with error message DSM for MPIO is not installed
If the application server is rebooted during an attempted snapshot, the CMC event log might report
a failed application-managed snapshot with the error DSM for MPIO is not installed.
To avoid this issue, pause any scheduled application-managed snapshots prior to rebooting the
DSM-installed application server.
•Software with patch 10060-00 fails a network interface configuration from the non-English CMC
When the P4000 SAN/iQ software version 9.0 CMC is used in a language other than English,
configuring or re-configuring the network interface might result in a failed operation with the error
message Invalid network mode. The network interface configuration could fail to complete

when the interface is configured through the TCP/IP tab with DHCP or a static IP address on the
non-English CMC.
A network interface can also be configured through the Configuration Interface, the command
line interface that uses a direct connection with the storage system. Use the following information
to configure a network connection through the Configuration Interface. The storage system comes
with two Ethernet interfaces, labeled as Intel Gigabit Ethernet or Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet in
the Configuration Interface. Once a connection is established to the storage system using a terminal
emulation program, you can configure an interface connection using the Configuration Interface.
1. On the Configuration Interface main menu, tab to Network TCP/IP Settings and press Enter.
2. Tab to select the network interface that you want to configure and press Enter.
3. Enter the host name and tab to the next section to configure the network settings.
NOTE:
If you specify an IP address, Gateway is a required field. If you do not have a gateway, enter
0.0.0.0 for the gateway address.
4. Tab to OK and press Enter to complete the network configuration.
5. Press Enter on the confirmation window. A window opens listing the assigned IP address.
6. Open the CMC and locate the storage system using the Find function.

•Incorrect network statistics displayed in Performance Monitor
Display errors will be corrected in a future patch release.
•10x volume size displayed in non-English CMC Edit Volume dialog
In a non-English CMC where the standard display for fractional numbers contains a comma rather
than a decimal point (such as 10,5 instead of 10.5), the Edit Volume dialog box shows the Reported
Size ten times larger than currently configured.
To avoid changing the volume size to an unintended size displayed in the Edit Volume dialog
box:
1. Cancel the dialog box by clicking the Cancel button, or
2. Correct the value of the Reported Size in the dialog box before clicking OK, or
3. Before editing volume properties, change the CMC Locale Preference to English:
a. From the CMC Help menu, select Preferences.
b. Select Locale. In the drop-down field, select English and click OK.
c. Verify that the Reported Size field now displays the correct value in the decimal format.
d. Change the desired volume properties and click OK.
For volumes that were unintentionally increased by 10x and the OS file system has not been ex-
tended, shrink the volumes back to their original size. Best practice is to shrink the volume to a
size somewhat larger than the original size. For example, if the volume was originally 10 GB and
became 100 GB, the volume should be shrunk back to 10.05 GB. This additional space helps
mitigate unintended over-shrinkage that could lead to data loss.
•CMC passwords containing a dot, or period, character no longer supported

The CMC for SAN/iQ software version 9.0 does not allow users to enter a dot, or period, char-
acter in a password. If a password that was created prior to version 9.0 contains a dot, the user
will not have access to the management groups on the upgraded system. To resolve this situation,
use the storage system Command Line Interface (CLI) to change the password. If you have not yet
upgraded to CMC 9.0, use the CMC to change the password before upgrading. For information
about the CLI, see the HP P4000 SAN Solution user guide.
Prerequisites
Supported upgrade paths Direct upgrades to release 9.0.01 can be performed from the following
released versions:
•Version 8.5.01
•Version 9.0
Space requirements The Central Management Console requires 35 MB disk space to install and
50 MB RAM during runtime.
Failover Manager The Failover Manager is used in two-system and in Multi-Site SAN configurations
to support automatic quorum management in the SAN. For Failover Manager installation, see the HP

Firmware Verify all firmware is at the latest version. To see the P4800 Firmware Compatibility
Matrix, browse to www.hp.com/storage/spock and log in. Navigate to Other Hardware, and then
select iSCSI/FCoE/FCIP/DM.

HP P4800 and other HP P4000 storage systems
HP recommends not mixing HP P4800 G2 storage systems with other HP P4000 series systems in a
cluster. The capacity of the smallest system will limit the capacity used on all systems, meaning that
the larger capacity of the HP P4800 G2 SAN Solution for BladeSystem will be unused.
HP P4800 G2 SAN Solution for BladeSystem storage nodes can coexist in management groups with
P4000 series storage nodes that are running SAN/iQ version 9.0 or later.
