2 Getting to know your tablet
Your tablet features top-rated components. This chapter provides details about your components, where they
are located, and how they work.
Locating hardware
To nd out what hardware is installed on your tablet, select the Search icon in the taskbar, type device
manager in the search box, and then select the Device Manager app.
For information about system hardware components and the system BIOS version number, press ctrl+alt+s
for tablets with on-screen keyboards or fn+esc for tablets with keyboards (select products only).
Locating software
To nd out what software is installed on your tablet, right-click the Start button, and then select Apps and
Features.
Top
Identify the components on the top of the tablet.

(1) AC adapter and battery light ●White: The AC adapter is connected and the battery is fully
charged.
●Blinking amber: The AC adapter is disconnected, and the
battery has reached a low battery level.
●Amber: The AC adapter is connected, and the battery is
charging.
●O: The battery is not charging.
(2) USB Type-C® power connector and SuperSpeed
5 Gbps port with HP Sleep and Charge and
DisplayPort™ output
Connects an AC adapter that has a USB Type-C connector,
supplying power to the tablet and, if needed, charging the tablet
battery.

Connects a USB device, provides high-speed data transfer, and
charges small devices (such as a smartphone), even when the
tablet is o.
NOTE: Use a standard USB Type-C charging cable or cable
adapter (purchased separately) when charging a small external
device. For a faster charge, connect the device directly to AC
power.

Connects a display device that has a USB Type-C connector,
providing DisplayPort output.

the tablet.
●When the tablet is on, press the button briey to initiate
Sleep.
●When the tablet is in the Sleep state, press the button
briey to exit Sleep (select products only).
●When the tablet is in Hibernation, press the button briey
to exit Hibernation.
IMPORTANT: Pressing and holding down the power button
results in the loss of unsaved information.
If the tablet has stopped responding and shutdown procedures
are ineective, press and hold the power button down for at
least 10 seconds to turn o the tablet.
To learn more about your power and sleep settings:
▲Right-click the Power icon , and then select Power
and sleep settings.
(6) Fingerprint reader Allows a ngerprint logon to Windows, instead of a password
logon.
▲Touch your nger to the ngerprint reader.
IMPORTANT: To prevent ngerprint logon issues, be sure
when you register your ngerprint that all sides of your
nger are registered by the ngerprint reader.
Bottom
Identify the component on the bottom of the tablet.

(1) Landscape pogo connectors Connect the tablet to the optional keyboard.
Display
The tablet display can include essential components such as speakers, antennas, cameras, and microphones.
Low blue light mode
Your tablet display is shipped from the factory in low blue light mode for improved eye comfort and safety.
Also, blue light mode automatically adjusts blue light emissions when you are using the tablet at night or for
reading.
NOTE: Wake-on Touch (WOT) is enabled on this display. You can tap the screen twice to wake the tablet.

(3) WLAN antennas* Send and receive wireless signals to communicate with wireless local
area networks (WLANs).
(4) Magnetic pen attachment area Holds an optional pen. Place the pen tip facing down for optimal
magnetic attachment.
NOTE: For more information about the pen, see the documentation
provided with the pen.
(5) Ambient light and color sensor Adjusts the brightness of the display, depending on the ambient
light, and manages and controls the color temperature. Color
temperature enables you to measure and adjust the warmth or
coolness of the light source.
NOTE: Do not cover the sensor. The display brightness adjusts if
the sensor notices light change.
*The antennas are not visible from the outside of the tablet. For optimal transmission, keep the areas immediately around the
antennas free from obstructions.

Using the kickstand
The kickstand works with the tablet in portrait or landscape mode.
1. Turn the tablet upside down on a at surface and attach the kickstand to back of the tablet.
2. Use one of the following sets of steps, depending on whether the tablet is in portrait or landscape mode.
▲In portrait mode, open the right side of the kickstand.
▲In landscape mode, slide the bottom of the kickstand away from the tablet and adjust your viewing
angle, up to approximately 163°.

Keyboard (soft cover) (select products only)
Keyboards can vary by language.
Connecting the keyboard
The tablet can connect to the keyboard in either portrait or landscape mode. Pogo connectors are located on
the bottom edge and left side of the tablet.
▲To connect the keyboard, lower the tablet onto the keyboard until the connectors click into place.
NOTE: For proper keyboard placement, be sure that the keyboard is at an angle and not lying at
against a surface.
Removing the keyboard
Use this step to remove the keyboard from the tablet.
▲To remove the tablet from the keyboard, pull the tablet away from the back of the keyboard.

Adjusting touchpad settings
Use these steps to adjust touchpad settings and gestures.
1. Select the Search icon in the taskbar, type touchpad settings in the search box, and then press
enter.
2.Choose a setting.
Turning on the touchpad
Follow these steps to turn on the touchpad.
1.Select the Search icon in the taskbar, type touchpad settings in the search box, and then press
enter.
2.Using an external mouse, click the touchpad button.
If you are not using an external mouse, press the Tab key repeatedly until the pointer rests on the
touchpad button. Then press the spacebar to select the button.
