Customer self repair
Hewlett Packard Enterprise products are designed with many Customer Self Repair (CSR) parts to minimize repair time and
allow for greater flexibility in performing defective parts replacement. If during the diagnosis period Hewlett Packard
Enterprise (or Hewlett Packard Enterprise service providers or service partners) identifies that the repair can be accomplished
by the use of a CSR part, Hewlett Packard Enterprise will ship that part directly to you for replacement. There are two
categories of CSR parts:
•Mandatory—Parts for which customer self repair is mandatory. If you request Hewlett Packard Enterprise to replace these
parts, you will be charged for the travel and labor costs of this service.
•Optional—Parts for which customer self repair is optional. These parts are also designed for customer self repair. If,
however, you require that Hewlett Packard Enterprise replace them for you, there may or may not be additional charges,
depending on the type of warranty service designated for your product.
NOTE: Some Hewlett Packard Enterprise parts are not designed for customer self repair. In order to satisfy the customer
warranty, Hewlett Packard Enterprise requires that an authorized service provider replace the part. These parts are identified
as "No" in the Illustrated Parts Catalog.
Based on availability and where geography permits, CSR parts will be shipped for next business day delivery. Same day or four-
hour delivery may be oered at an additional charge where geography permits. If assistance is required, you can call the
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center and a technician will help you over the telephone. Hewlett Packard Enterprise
specifies in the materials shipped with a replacement CSR part whether a defective part must be returned to Hewlett Packard
Enterprise. In cases where it is required to return the defective part to Hewlett Packard Enterprise, you must ship the defective
part back to Hewlett Packard Enterprise within a defined period of time, normally five (5) business days. The defective part
must be returned with the associated documentation in the provided shipping material. Failure to return the defective part
may result in Hewlett Packard Enterprise billing you for the replacement. With a customer self repair, Hewlett Packard
Enterprise will pay all shipping and part return costs and determine the courier/carrier to be used.
For more information about the Hewlett Packard Enterprise CSR program, contact your local service provider.
Parts only warranty service
Your Hewlett Packard Enterprise Limited Warranty may include a parts only warranty service. Under the terms of parts only
warranty service, Hewlett Packard Enterprise will provide replacement parts free of charge.
For parts only warranty service, CSR part replacement is mandatory. If you request Hewlett Packard Enterprise to replace
these parts, you will be charged for the travel and labor costs of this service.

In caso

„Nein“ gekennzeichnet.
Parts-only Warranty Service (Garantieservice ausschließlich für Teile)

In verband

Packard Enterprise.
Garantieservice "Parts Only"
Onde as
cobrar a reposição.
taxa.
peças, serão cobradas as despesas de transporte e mão-de-obra do serviço.

Removal and replacement procedures
This chapter provides detailed instructions on how to remove and replace component spare parts.
Electrostatic discharge recommendations
CAUTION:
To prevent damaging the system, be aware of the precautions you need to follow when setting up the system or
handling parts. A discharge of static electricity from a finger or other conductor may damage system boards or other
static-sensitive devices. This type of damage can reduce the life expectancy of the device.
To prevent electrostatic damage, observe the following precautions:
• Avoid hand contact by transporting and storing products in static-safe containers.
• Keep electrostatic-sensitive parts in their containers until they arrive at static-free workstations.
• Place parts on a grounded surface before removing them from their containers.
• Avoid touching pins, leads, or circuitry.
• Always make sure you are properly grounded when touching a static-sensitive component or assembly.
Preparing for appliance module removal
Before removing the appliance module, you must:
•Create and download a backup
•Create a support dump
•Prepare a recovery USB key
Creating and downloading an appliance backup
Back up the appliance and download the backup file before removing the appliance from the frame:
• Synergy Composer: The minimum required privileges are Infrastructure administrator, Software administrator, or Backup
administrator. For more information about creating a manual backup and downloading the file, see Back up an appliance
manually.
• Synergy Image Streamer: The minimum required privileges to create the backup are Infrastructure administrator and
Backup administrator. The minimum required privileges to download the backup bundle are Infrastructure administrator,
Network administrator, Server administrator, Server firmware operator, Storage administrator, Software administrator, and
Backup administrator. For more information about creating and downloading the backup bundle, see Create a backup
bundle.
Creating a support dump file from the appliance maintenance console
This procedure describes how to use the appliance maintenance console to create a support dump file from the local appliance
module (the appliance module on which the appliance maintenance console runs) and store it on a USB drive.
Removal and replacement procedures 16

If the local appliance module is the active appliance module in an appliance cluster and if the standby appliance module is
reachable, the support dump will contain the data for both cluster members. Otherwise, a support dump is created with data
for the local appliance module only.
CAUTION: Creating the support dump file overwrites any existing backup file on the appliance module. If possible,
refrain from creating a support dump if you have not copied the backup file to an external location for safekeeping. Use
the User interface to download the backup file.
The support dump file is encrypted by default.
Prerequisites
• Privileges: Infrastructure administrator
• Use a USB 20 or 30 device drive, formatted as an NTFS or FAT32 file system and with only one partition. If necessary, use
a computer to format the USB drive.
The USB drive must have enough free space (typically 1 GB to 4 GB) to store the support dump file.
Procedure
1. Install the USB drive in the USB port of the local appliance module.
2. Access the appliance maintenance console main menu.
For more information, see Access the appliance maintenance console using a keyboard, video monitor, and mouse.
3. Select Support dump.
A new set of commands appears.
4. Do one of the following:
• Select Create support dump to create a support dump file and copy it to the USB drive.
• Select Download existing support dump to copy a support dump file from the appliance module to the USB drive.
5. Wait until the support dump file is copied. The message on the screen states that the support dump was successfully
completed and that it is safe to remove the USB drive.
Preparing a USB flash drive
Prerequisites
IMPORTANT: Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you prepare a USB flash drive immediately after installing
and after updating the appliance module firmware so that you always have a USB flash drive that matches the currently
installed version of the appliance module image. For environments with multiple versions, create separate USB drives,
one for each version.
Make sure that you have the following:
• Computer running either Linux or Microsoft Windows operating system
• USB flash drive with 4 GB of memory, or greater
• Internet connection
Removal and replacement procedures 17

Procedure
1. Identify the version of the appliance module image.
(HPE Synergy Composer) View the firmware version on the Appliance panel of the HPE OneView Settings screen.
(HPE Synergy ImageStreamer) View the firmware version:
• In the appliance maintenance console using the View option.
• In HPE OneView, view the Installed firmware version for Member Appliance by using the OS Deployment Servers
screen.
a. Under General, select the link to the deployment server interface.
b. Select Deployment Appliances.
The firmware version that is displayed is the version of the image that you will download in step 5 and include on the USB
drive.
2. Insert the USB flash drive in the computer USB port.
3. If necessary, delete any unnecessary partitions to ensure adequate disk space.
4. Format the USB flash drive for one FAT32 or W95 FAT32 partition using the following guidelines:
• For a Linux operating system, use the /sbin/fdisk /dev/sdxcommand, where x represents the numerical
drive of the USB port used.
• For a Windows operating system, right-click the USB icon in the Computer window and select Format.
• Specify a label for your USB drive. It can be any name you want, except EMBEDDED, which is a reserved name. Consider
using the date as part of the label.
• Create only one primary partition. Delete any existing partitions.
• If prompted, specify the following parameters:
◦Capacity: maximum value
◦Allocation unit size: 4096 bytes
◦First and last block: default values
5. Download the firmware image .zip file and the corresponding .md5 file from the Hewlett Packard Enterprise website
(http://www.hpe.com/downloads/Synergy).
The firmware image that you download must match the version determined in step 1. Make sure that you download the
complete image for recovery for the USB. The firmware update for existing images does not contain a complete image.
Use a checksum utility of your choice and the .md5 file to verify the integrity of the downloaded files.
6. Unzip the compressed image.
7. Copy the contents of the image file to the USB flash drive.
IMPORTANT: Do not rename the files.
8. Optionally, remove the USB flash drive and store it for future use.
