The law requires that personnel using this type of equipment in
the workplace must be competent and qualified to do so.

Never use the heater except for its intended purpose. If
it will not do what you want i.e. the heat output is
insufficient for the area being heated, contact your local
HSS Hire for advice.
Only use the heater for the purpose it was designed for.
Improper use may cause expensive damage and could be
dangerous.
Keep the equipment clean - you will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the end
of the hire period.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and secure.

Allow to cool down before moving it.
Neatly coil the flex ready for return.

There is a serious risk of personal injury if you do not
follow all instructions laid down in this guide.
The hirer has a responsibility to ensure that all
necessary risk assessments have been completed prior
to the use of this equipment.
This equipment should only be used by an operator
who has been deemed competent to do so by his/her
employer.
This equipment should be used by a competent adult
who has read and understood these instructions. Anyone
with either a temporary or permanent disability, should
seek expert advice before using it.
Keep children, animals and bystanders away from the
work area. Cordon off a NO GO area using cones and
either barriers or tape, available for hire from HSS Hire.
Never use this equipment if you are ill, feeling
tired, or under the influence of alcohol or
drugs.
Never use the heater if highly flammable vapours –
petrol or paint thinner fumes for example – are present,
nor in a dusty environment.
Do not work near flammable gases or liquids, petrol or
paint thinner fumes for example. Keep combustible
materials at a safe distance – at least 5m.
Never cover the heater and never obstruct its air vents.
Leave a 300mm (12in) gap all round to let air circulate.
Always switch OFF and unplug the equipment when not
in use, leaving it to cool before handling it.
Check the condition of the equipment before use. If it
shows signs of damage or excessive wear, return it to your
local HSS Hire.
To avoid possible heat damage never aim the heater
directly at carpet or other heat sensitive surfaces.
Never use the heater as a form of dryer i.e. for drying
clothes!
The heater can become very hot and therefore it should
be placed at a safe distance from flammable objects
such as furniture, curtains etc.
After switching off allow the heater to cool down before
touching it.
Never use this equipment outdoors. Do not expose the
heater to rain or snow and do not use it in damp or wet
areas or where there is a risk of fire or explosion.
Make sure you know how to switch this heater OFF
before you switch it on in case you get into difficulty.
Never leave the heater unsupervised.
Do not connect the HSS Retail Fan Heater using on/off
timer or other equipment which can automatically
switch the device on.
Do not try to repair or modify the equipment. If this tool
can’t do what you expect or fails to work return to HSS Hire.
GENERAL SAFETY IDENTIFIER
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
GETTING STARTED
Never use this heater until you have fully read and
understood this User Guide and the machine has been
properly set up using the information it contains.
This heater is fitted with both a thermostatically
controlled output and a tilt sensor, both will cut the
power either when tilted or moved too aggressively or if
there is a fault with the heat output.
Set the heater up on a firm level surface. Always stand
the heater in an upright position. Make sure is a safe
distance from flammable objects.
The heater is fitted with a cut off“tip over” switch and when
the unit is inclined or turned over it will cut off the power.
Adjust the unit angle up to 20 degrees. To do this just use
the side handle knobs.
Connect the fan heater to the mains.
Set the thermostat to
MAX and let the heater
operate with full power.
The fan heater will switch on when the
heating selector is set to one of the power
settings.
Once the area reaches the required temperature, the
heating process will stop and the fan will continue to spin.
When the room temperature drops it will automatically
start heating again.
The fan heater will automatically stop and start heating, to
keep the room temperature constant.
Before you decide to switch off the heater, switch off the
thermostat first. Leave the unit for few minutes and let
it cool down.
The HSS Retail Fan Heater plugs into a standard 230V
13amp power socket.
If the equipment fails, or if its power supply cable or
plug becomes damaged, return it. Never try to repair it
yourself.
Keep cables out of harm’s way, and clear of the work area.
Extension leads should be fully unwound and loosely
coiled, away from the equipment. Never run them
through water, over sharp edges or where they could trip
someone.
Always remove the plug from the supply socket before
undertaking any type of intervention on the Retail Fan
Heater or if it is left unattended or within children or
people’s reach not quite conscious of their own actions.
When unplugging the heater pull the plug, not the
supply cable.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, always use a
suitable RCD (Residual Current-Operated Device)
available from HSS Hire.
Ensure the heater and power socket are switched OFF
before plugging into the power supply.
CAUTION!
Some parts of the heater can be very hot!
After switching off leave it for few minutes and let it
cool down.
BASIC TECHNIQUES

Do not connect other appliances to the same mains
socket as the fan heater.
Never operate electrical equipment with wet hands as it
may cause electric shock.
Never plug equipment into a socket which looks
damaged or cracked, or has part or all of the cover
missing.
