Keep the equipment clean. You will find it less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
Handle the heater with reasonable care; the heat
lamps are fragile.
Never touch the heat lamps – the grease from
your skin could produce a hot spot and cause them
to explode.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
Switch OFF the heating elements, unplug the
heater and once cool, neatly coil the flex ready
for return.

For advice on the safety and suitability of this
equipment contact your local HSS Hire Shop.
Keep children, animals and bystanders away from
the heater. Never leave them alone when the heater is
in use and if necessary isolate the heater using a suitable
fire guard.
Never use this equipment if you are ill, feeling
tired, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
This equipment should only be used by a
competent person who has read and understood
these instructions.
Never use the heater if highly flammable vapours –
petrol or paint thinner fumes for example – are present,
nor in a dusty environment.
Keep combustible materials at a safe distance –
at least 1.5.m.
Never place anything on top of a heater and never
obstruct its air vents. Leave a 300mm (12in) gap all
round to let air circulate.
Always switch OFF and unplug the equipment
when not in use, leaving it to cool before handling it.
Check the condition of the equipment before use.
If it shows signs of damage or excessive wear, return it to
your local HSS Hire Shop.
Pay special attention to the red tube which covers
the heating element, if it is cracked or broken DO
NOT USE THE EQUIPMENT. Isolate it from the
power supply and contact your local HSS Hire Shop
for a replacement heater.
To avoid possible heat damage NEVER aim
the heater directly at carpet or other heat
sensitive surfaces.
Information on COSHH regulations is available from your
local HSS Hire Shop.
Most HSS infra-red heaters plug into a standard
13amp power socket. However, 110v heaters (with
a round yellow plug) must be provided with a
suitable 110v generated supply, or powered from the
mains via a suitable 110v transformer.
If the equipment fails, or if its flex or plug gets
damaged, return it. Never try to repair it yourself.
Keep flexes out of harm’s way, and clear of moving
parts.
Extension leads should be fully unwound and
loosely coiled, away from the equipment. Never run
them through water, over sharp edges or where they
could trip someone.
Using electrical equipment in very damp or wet
conditions can be dangerous.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
GENERAL SAFETY To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a
suitable RCD (Residual Current-Operated Device)
available from your local HSS Hire Shop, or power 240V
(Not 110V) equipment from a power circuit with a
built-in RCD.
Never carry or pull the equipment by its flex.
Ensure the infra-red heater and power socket
are switched OFF before plugging into the
power supply.
Position the heater facing a suitable solid object
not more than 6m (20ft) away. Attach magnetic
mounted models to a suitable, clean metal
structure capable of carrying the weight. Use the
safety chain.
The swivel mounted twin bar model can be
positioned facing up or down, to adjust the angle,
loosen off the swivel locks, move the head to the
required position and relock.
If used in the down position DO NOT aim at carpets or
other heat sensitive surfaces, this may cause expensive
damage!
On floor mounted models, ensure you lock the rear
castors.
Now, simply plug the heater into its power supply
and switch ON. On multi-bar models, each element
can be controlled independently.
Never use the heater except for its intended
purpose. If it will not do what you want i.e. the heat
output is insufficient for the area being heated, contact
your local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Only use the heater for the purpose it was
designed for. Improper use may cause expensive
damage and could be dangerous.
