INTENDED USE
The Kera sit2sit assists a single caregiver to safely and securely
transfer people, who have little or no standing strength, between
seated positions.
It is intended to be used on level surfaces for the transfer of
immobile users in hospitals, care facilities or domestic homes.
It is not intended for users to be in the transit position for long
periods of time.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Restricted breathing –This depends on the individual. The Kera
sit2sit has been used with people using a CPAP.
Thighstrap can be used to reduce the Backstrap tightness needed
to complete a transfer.
Flexibility - The person does not need to be weight bearing but will
require some level of flexibility in their lower joints to be
comfortably lifted using this device.

PEG/SPC –The Kera sit2sit has been used with both a PEG and
SPC.
Contact HT Systems for advice about customising the Chestpad, if
too much pressure is felt.
Additionally, Thighstrap used to reduce pressure on the upper
body.
ENVIRONMENT
The Kera sit2sit fits well in home environments, even in tight
locations and with heavy carpet.
Similarly, the Kera sit2sit was designed with facilities in mind and
changes instantly to transfer a number of residents with different
body types and abilities.
WEAKNESSES
Standing rehab –The Kera sit2sit does not lift the client into a
standing position.
Off a bed - Similar to standing hoists the client needs to be sitting
stably upright on the bed.
Off the floor - Similar to standing hoists the client needs to be
seated in a chair or bed.
WARRANTY
1-year limited warranty on or replace defective components or
faulty workmanship.
Spare parts will be stocked for at least 7 years.

The higher version of the Kera sit2sit is raised by 80mm which makes transfers between higher seats more comfortable and
efficient. The Kera sit2sit low models can be used on higher seat heights and vice versa but the transfer is typically not as
comfortable for the user.

SCRIPT STEP 1. BASE UNIT
Investigate the user’s typical seats i.e. wheelchair, commode, day chair.
Measure the seat heights from the floor to the middle of the seat cushion.
A. If the seat heights are between 500 - 630mm from the ground?
A Kera sit2sit High is the best model for the user. It is set up with a raised base frame to work
best for higher chairs such as power chairs.
B. Is your seat height less than 500mm?
The Kera sit2sit Low model is more comfortable and easier to lift a person from a lower height
chairs.
SCRIPT STEP 2. USER WEIGHT
What is the weight of the person being transferred?
A. User is greater than 80Kg
The Kera120 has a “longer” handle for increased leverage (note that the maximum caregiver force is 1/5th of the user’s weight)
B. Is your seat height less than 500mm?
The Kera80 has a “shorter” handle which also results in a smaller footprint (note that the maximum caregiver force is 1/4th of the user’s
weight)

GENERAL INFORMATION
USER AND CAREGIVER ASSESSMENT
A clinical assessment of the person being transferred and their suitability for use with the Kera
sit2sit should be carried out by a qualified health professional. The user does not need to be
weight bearing but will require some level of flexibility in their lower joints to be comfortably
lifted using this device.
Before each transfer the caregiver should be aware of the user’s current medical, physical, and
mental condition and not attempt a transfer if they are concerned that the transfer would
endanger the user or the caregiver’s own safety.
The Kera sit2sit was designed to minimise the load on caregivers however please be aware of
your physical ability to complete the transfer and do not attempt a transfer that would
endanger the user or the caregiver’s own safety.
INSPECTION AND CLEANING
To clean the Kera sit2sit, wipe it down with a damp cloth using warm water and a disinfectant
cleaner. Do not use harsh solvents such as phenol and chlorine as it may damage the device’s
finish. Follow laundering instructions on the Backstrap. Do not submerge any other
components for cleaning.
It is recommended that the Kera sit2sit and its accessories are regularly cleaned and/or
disinfected between each use.
MAINTENANCE AND USER INSPECTIONS
The caregiver should always inspect the device for hygiene, wear, and damage before each use
to ensure the safety of all users.
Every 12 months a more detailed inspection should be carried out by a suitably qualified
technician.
Contact HT Systems if you have any concerns about the condition or safety of the device.
The lifetime of this product in normal use is 8 years if all maintenance and servicing is carried
out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and demonstrably recorded.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
HT Systems, at its sole discretion, warrants that it will repair or replace defective components
or faulty workmanship for a warranty period of one (1) year from the date of manufacture of
the product.
A warranty claim may not be accepted where:
•Notice has not been given within four (4) weeks of the defect or faulty workmanship
being first noticed.
•Damage is caused by negligence, accident or deliberate abuse, product modification,
incorrect use, incorrect storage, or maintenance and continued use of the part after the
defect or faulty workmanship is first noticed.
We reserve the right to substitute components of equal or better quality on the particular
items being repaired or replaced.
There will be no extensions to the original warranty period for any product that has been
repaired or replaced.

KERA SIT2SIT FAQ
Is the Kera sit2sit a standing hoist?
No, the Kera sit2sit is an innovative, new type of hoist
that can replace a standing hoist or sling hoist.
The Kera sit2sit can eliminate the problems
experienced by users on a standing hoist, such as
passive users being strangled under the arms and
knees being dragged into the knee pads.
Does the user require weight
bearing/standing strength?
No, the user does not require any weight bearing
ability.
The unique combination of a Backstrap and Chestpad
completely supports the user, holding them
comfortably, safely, and securely, during the transfer.
Does the user have to hold on?
No, the user does not have to hold on.
The unique combination of a Backstrap and Chestpad
completely supports the user, holding them
comfortably, safely, and securely, during the transfer.
What about breathing issues?
Breathing issues should be assessed on a case-by-
case basis by a health professional.
We have had users with a CPAP device using the Kera
sit2sit.
The Backstrap does loosen off after the lift, in the
transfer position, and the user is lying on their chest,
generally able to breath normally.
What about vertigo?
Vertigo and psychological conditions should be
assessed on a case-by-case basis by a health
professional.
The user reaction to the Kera sit2sit transfer position
is varied and unpredictable. Most users find the
transfer position, natural and comfortable.
In the transfer position, the user’s head remains
above their heart.
Does the caregiver need to be strong?
The patented design of the Kera sit2sit uses leverage
advantage to assist the caregiver to manually lift the
user.
Forces have been designed to be low (approx. 1/5th of
the user weight –long handle) but the caregiver still
needs to be fit to care.
We recommend that, before a transfer, the caregiver
assesses their physical capability to complete the
transfer and not to attempt a transfer that would
endanger the user or their own safety.

What is the weight limit of the user?
The safe working load of the person being transferred
is:
•Kera120 = 120Kg
•Kera80 = 80Kg
What height chairs does it suit?
The Kera sit2sit standard can be comfortably used to
transfer users between chairs with seat heights over
400mm.
If the seat heights are between 500 - 630mm from the
ground, then a Kera sit2sit high is the best model for
the user. It is set up with a raised base frame to work
best for higher chairs such as power chairs.
How tight do I need to do the straps?
As tight as possible while still comfortable.
If the Backstrap is too loose, the Chestpad will slip up
the user’s front until it reaches enough tightness to
lift the user.
The good news is that, although the lift will be
uncomfortable, it won’t drop the user. This can easily
be fixed by lowering the user, repositioning the
Backstrap and tightening to an appropriate level.
How far over do I have to tip
someone?
The further forward onto their chest the better.
You will notice that the handle goes weightless (about
at your waist level) and any point after this is a secure
and a safe position.
However, it is generally more comfortable for the
user to be resting almost flat on their chest rather
further back and the Backstrap holding them up.
Can I transport the Kera sit2sit in a
car?
Whilst we don’t recommend it, the Kera sit2sit is able
to be transported in the back of a hatchback with the
seats down. Refer to the instructions in this manual.
Care should be taken combined with a two person lift
as the Kera sit2sit is heavy (35Kg) and awkward.
Where is the Kera made?
The Kera sit2sit is made in our factory in
Christchurch, New Zealand using welded components
manufactured by our partners, Tuki Design.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR A BETTER TRANSFER
Feet don’t touch the foot plates?
Firstly, check the Kera sit2sit model –A Kera high model has 80mm higher
footplates and should be used for taller seat heights (i.e. over 500mm).
If the right Kera sit2sit model is being used and the user has shorter legs where
their feet don’t reach the footplate, use the Kera sit2sit Riser Blocks (60mm or
110mm height) to raise the footplate level to the user’s feet.
The Riser Blocks should only be used with the Kera sit2sit Footboxes.
Note that a petite Chestpad is also available if the standard Chestpad is too
large.
Set up for children or smaller adults (i.e. feet not reaching the
footplate)
Can’t get the Kera sit2sit close enough to the knees?
Firstly, check that there is no impediment (i.e. wheelchair footplates) getting in
the way of the Kera sit2sit. Try to remove these impediments, if possible.
Secondly, adjust the Chestpad slider to its smallest setting and push the Kera
sit2sit firmly into the user.
Thirdly, foam packs are available to pack out the knees to remove any residual
gap.
Note also that a transfer can still be executed, although not ideally, even if
there is a small gap (3-5cm) to the knee pads.
Getting the right height setting?
Starting with the Chestpad slider at the smallest setting, slide out firmly until
meeting the user’s stomach.
Note that the Chestpad has 9cm of soft foam and can be squished firmly into
the user. Communicate with the user to ensure that the pressure is firm and
comfortable.
The user is really hunched over.
Start with the Backstrap fitted low on the back and make sure it is as tight as
possible.
Try pushing the Chestpad into the user’s stomach by one or two more holes.

When in the transfer position, the user should end up less hunched over and
the Backstrap shouldn’t slip up as much.
The user has a stiff knee joint?
After placing the user’s feet on the footplate try to get the knee as close to the
knee pad as possible.
If necessary, use foam packs to pack out the knee to remove the gap.
Next push the Chestpad into the user’s stomach by one or two more holes than
normal.
When in the transfer position, the user should be in a taller position and not
have to bend their knee as much.
The Chestpad is sliding up under their chin?
If the Backstrap is too loose, the Chestpad will slip up the user’s front until it
reaches enough tightness to lift the user.
The good news is that, although the lift will be less comfortable, it won’t drop
the user.
This situation can easily be fixed by lowering the user, repositioning the
Backstrap and tightening to an appropriate level.
If the Backstrap is too tight for the user, then add Thighstrap to take some of
the load.
The Backstrap is sliding up their back? i.e. Backstrap slipping
Too tight around the chest or sore back?
As always, the health of the user should be assessed on a case-by-case basis by
a health professional.
If the Backstrap is too tight for the user, then a Thighstrap may be added to
take some of the user’s weight during the lift.
How to manage higher or lower chairs?
Firstly, ensure that you have got the right Kera sit2sit for the

As always, please risk assess the lift being attempted, and the health of both the
user and caregiver.
If the chair is outside the standard range of the Kera sit2sit, you will note that
the Chestpad will not be parallel to the user’s upper body – this will require
some flexibility and movement of the user to align with the Chestpad position.
Proceed as normal with the process of tightening the Backstrap.
Because the Chestpad is not parallel, you will also note that the Caregiver
Handle may also require further reach and if lifting off a lower chair will require
higher force.
Repositioning someone who has slipped down in their day chair.
The Kera sit2sit is specifically designed to seat a user deep into a chair. If a user
has slouched and slipped in their day chair the Kera sit2sit can be used to sit
them back into a good upright position.
Proceed with all steps as normal although the user’s upper body with not meet
the Chestpad. After attaching the Backstrap hooks, use the mechanical
advantage of the straps to pull the user into sitting and firmly against the
Chestpad.
At this point a standard lift can be performed. Rather than transferring to
another seat the Kera sit2sit can be moved closer to the same chair and the
user placed into an upright position.
Not getting person back far enough into the chair?
Firstly, check that there is no impediment (i.e. wheelchair footplates) getting in
the way of the Kera sit2sit. Try to remove these impediments, if possible.
Secondly, adjust the Chestpad slider into the user’s stomach by one or two
more holes than normal.
Thirdly, foam packs are available to pack out the knees and push the user
deeper into their chair.
Lying to sit transfer on a bed.
Transferring off a bed should only be attempted when the user is sitting stably
on the side of the bed.

This stable position can be achieved with two caregivers or using a specially
designed raising bed.
Feet threaten to slip back off the footplates.
In the case of feet that slip off the Footplates or tremors/spasms, it is best to fit
Kera sit2sit Footboxes, to hold the user’s feet in place.
The User has tremors or spasms.
Peg or SPC
The Kera sit2sit has been used with both a PEG and SPC.
