HTC HTC One X Installation guide

HTC One X
Right from the moment you pick up the
HTC One X the quality oozes from the
curvaceous lines of the Uni-body design.
The smooth gloss edges make you
caress the phone as if it were a delicate
flower.
The rounded edges of the glass give a
sense of robustness and strength worthy
of a modern Smart hone.
The Eggshell finish to the back casing
adds warmth of touch, encapsulating the
overall tactile experience you have upon
holding the hone for the first time.
“The HTC One X is a joy to behold!”
Sense4 - The Look and Feel
Sense4 is HTC’s revamped User interface. It has
joined in a Holy Matrimony with Google’s Ice Cream
Sandwich Firmware. Many believed that nothing
could be better than the pure flavour of Vanilla Ice
cream. Until now that is...
Slick and full of tricks, is the only way to describe the
experience.
Seasoned Android Users will be familiar with Add-
On Launchers such as ADW-EX, Launcher ro and
of course GO-Launcher EX. Sense4 brings some of
the best loved attributes of these Launchers as a
stock feature.
The Home screen transition is the much loved
“Outside Cube”
As you can see in the picture (on the right) there is
an abundance of Widgets to use on the Home
Screens, of which there are seven.
With over 100 individual Widgets across 26 pages,
there is something for everyone!
Widgets are simply dragged from their position, up onto the Home screen of choice. The
Home screens are clearly positioned along the top of the Widget page.

HTC One X
The Calendar Widget is one of my personal favourites.
As you can see from the screen capture on the left, the
whole Month is laid out for you to quickly see your
appointments.
This Widget is fully interactive, as indeed are all the
Widgets.
From here you can create Appointments, reminders
and even Notes!
You can allocate Alarm reminders, so that you never
miss an important meeting.
Another outstanding feature is the Recent Apps
Utility.
This is accessed by pressing the Button on the
bottom of the HTC One X screen that looks like a
pile of pages.
All of your recently opened Apps, Web pages, and Facebook and twitter pages will all be
here.
This is a real reminder of the True Multi-tasking capability of the HTC One X.
Using this feature you can easily and quickly switch between many different tasks. This will
not slow the hone down as these applications and processes are in suspended animation
whilst waiting to be awoken again.
You can even do this while on a phone call, to retrieve a phone number from your contacts
list for example!
This is another example of HTC’s innovation towards ICS. Whereas with Ice Cream
Sandwich you simply have a list of thumbnail images that slide off the screen. HTC have
created a beautiful 3D environment, with sideways scrolling and pages that fly upwards to
close them.

HTC One X
Personalisation:
One of the best attributes of the Android OS, is the ability to
Customise. This is something that HTC has done incredibly
well with the
Sense4 U .
HTC have included
a plethora of
attractive themes
and Wallpapers.
Although HTC
refer to themes as
Skins, there are
currently 6 designs
to choose from with
more to be added
in the future. I am
not clear if this will be a paid for feature or free to customers
at this time?
There are 8 Lockscreen styles to choose from. These
include having Notifications displayed, hotos, social networks, weather and your contacts.
You can also have one of HTC’s famous clocks or the latest Dow Jones!
There are also 23 beautiful Wallpapers and a very generous 12 Live Wallpapers. My
favourite Live Wallpaper is the Lava flow. You are also able to use your own HD quality
images taken with the One X’s superb Camera for that personal touch.

HTC One X
Camera:
I’m not going to bore you with lots of
meaningless numbers and facts about
F/stops etc.
Here’s all you need to know…
8mp Rear Camera with Face & smile
detection.
HD Video recording in 1080p, that’s full
High Definition. Also with Stereo sound
recording.
1.3mp Front Camera with 720p Video
recording.
Both Cameras have Video stabilisation.
On Screen Live Effects:
Certainly one of the coolest
innovations HTC have
introduced to their Camera is
the
On-Screen Live Effects.
The beauty here is that you
see exactly what your picture
will look like before you take
it…!
There are 15 effects to
choose from and each one
has been superbly integrated.
That’s not all… Check out all the amazing manual settings to choose from, and you can see
this is no mere gimmick Camera.

HTC One X
Recording Video with
the 1080p Full HD capable
Camera is really made easy by
the One X.
All controls are perfectly placed
for intuitive access by the User.
One of the great features of the
One X is the fact that you don’t
need a User Manual.
ress Record and the Camera immediately springs into action. No delay or black screen
before recording starts. All of those valuable memories are instantly captured at an eye
popping 30F S (frames per second).
Ever wished you could take a Still hotograph whilst recording? You can now! The One X
with its dedicated Camera rocessor seamlessly snaps those stills without a single stutter
from the on-going Recording. That’s not all… When you play back the Video and you see a
scene worthy of a hoto, press the Camera shutter button and the still is captured!
Sports Fans, ever wished you could capture that great sporting moment in Slow Motion…?
You can now! Without any fussy settings to configure simply press “Slow Motion” from the
Cameras menu and begin recording. It’s that easy!
There are so many features to explore on this Camera you need to try them for yourself. You
will be amazed!
Screen Capture;
Another very useful feature built
into the One X is the ability to take
a Screen Capture from any screen
displayed on the phone. You will
see many examples of this whilst
reading this review.
To take a Screen Capture:
ress and Hold the ower button
and the Volume down button at
the same time for approximately 2
seconds.
A shutter sound will be heard and
the screen will flash briefly.

HTC One X
Global Positioning System:
G S has often been a subject of dismay for the
Android User. Not with the One X, this phone
has an amazingly powerful antenna within its
Uni-body construct.
Sitting inside my House,
I was able to “Lock” onto 10 Satellites with a
total of 16 Satellites located!
Take a look at the Accuracy, 6 feet…!
In comparison have a look at the same App on a
slightly older Android hone.
The hone was in the same position in the
House, and was left for 2 minutes to maximise
Satellite location.
(Older Android Phone)
(HTC One X)
As you can see, from the same position inside
my House the older Android phone can only
see 6 Satellites and was unable to get a Lock
on any of them. The accuracy was a shocking
605 feet!
I should also point out that the other phone was
using G S Assist. This utilises Wi-Fi signals to
help pin point positioning. Whereas this feature
was deliberately turned off on the HTC One X.
I had to try and give my old phone a chance
after all…!
I think you’ll agree the One X has a very
impressive performance.

HTC One X
Sat-Nav:
We have already seen how accurate the One X can be when using its very impressive
G S antenna. This is backed up even more so when used with Google Maps, which
comes as standard with all Android Smart hones.
As you can see in the magnified image, there is a tiny blue circle near the centre of the
location Arrowhead. This gives you a visual indication of the G S accuracy as you are
driving along.
revious Android phones would commonly see this arrowhead jump from the road and
appear to be in the middle of a field. This was very annoying when approaching a junction
and not knowing which direction to take. Also many other Android phones suffered from
quite lengthy delays in map updating due to the high workload needed to generate a real
time moving map.
The HTC One X takes all this in its stride. Not only does it produce the same level of
accuracy as some top name dedicated Sat-Nav devices but it doesn’t suffer any of the delay
or slow down problems of earlier phones. This is all thanks to the amazing 1.5 GHz Quad
core rocessor and 1Gb of Ram.
My journey was an hour in duration; at no point did it feel like I was using an inferior Sat-Nav
device. In fact with the large 4.7” screen it was very quick for me to spot where I was on the
screen, meaning I spent less time with my eyes off the road.
The super quick Browsing capability of the One X meant that finding my destination was not
a chore and in fact it was comparable to using a pre-loaded very expensive Sat-Nav.

HTC One X
What Dreams are made of…?
You may not know what nternet pass-through is? But at some point in your life you will
have wished you had it…!
nternet pass-through allows you to use the broadband connection of your C or Laptop
and transfer it to your hone via USB cable.
As long as your C is connected via Ethernet cable to the Internet you can use this amazing
feature.
•Make sure you have downloaded
the latest HTC drivers to your C or
Laptop. The easiest way is to
download HTC Sync.
•Connect your phone to the C and
allow the drivers to install.
•Go into Settings > More > Tap on
nternet pass-through. A
disclaimer will appear, click on OK.
Wait a few seconds, and you are
connected.
For people without Wi-Fi and very poor 3g
signal, this is the perfect solution.

HTC One X
Beats Audio:
When I played the same track on the One X and another popular Mp3 player I could
immediately hear a difference in tone and clarity through my own personal headphones.
When you plug in your headphones
another menu becomes accessible
whilst playing back a music track.
The Sound Enhancer offers nine separate pre-
configured equaliser settings for quick selection.
Each setting offers a unique musical experience
complimenting the already perfectly balanced
tones of the One X.
Wearers of the beats Audio brand of ear buds or
headphones will be in for an added auditory
delight.
I plugged the One X into a pair of good quality C
speakers. Wow! There really is nothing more to
say…
Summary:
I have to admit that this is possibly one of the
best phones I have seen to date. HTC have
listened to their Customer base and also looked to the Android Community for inspiration.
Sense4 is a testament to everything that Android is about. It’s not about keeping everything
the same… It’s about innovation and moving forward…
I hope you’ve enjoyed my brief look at a small cross section of what the HTC One X has to
offer.
My advice would be, go into your local Vodafone
Store, pick up a HTC One X and try it for
yourself…!
