Thunderstorms
Do not work with electricalcurrent or work in elevated or exposed locationsduring a thunderstorm.
Microwave
High-power radio frequency signals are harmful. Avoid exposure to transmission from the antennas of
microwave equipment that has the radiation warning symbol ( ). When you are installing or performing
maintenance on an antenna located on a tower that has multiple antennas, avoid exposure to radiation from
other antennas.
Elevated locations
OAU 2A is usuallyinstalled in an elevated location, for example, on the rooftop of a building. For installation
in elevated locations,installationpersonnel must:
•Have the proper training and qualifications, and meethealth requirements.
•Wearhelmets,safety belts, and anti-slip footwear.
•Wearclothingand gloves appropriateto weatherconditions.
•Workin teamsof twoor more.
•Test hoisting tools before use.
•Avoid installationduringextreme weather conditions, such as during thunderstorms, blizzards, or gales.
In addition, all site visitors must wear helmets.
High temperature
If the ambienttemperature reaches 55°C, the surfacetemperatureof an OAU 2A may exceed 70°C.
Therefore, wearprotective gloves whenhandling the OAU 2A. A high-temperaturewarninglabel ( ) is
attachedto each OAU 2A.
Corrosion
Anti-corrosion measuresare required if an OAU 2A is installedin a locationthat is prone to corrosion.Contact
the local Huawei office for details.A locationis prone to corrosion if it is:
•Within3.7 km of an ocean or a salt water lake
•Within3 km of a heavy pollutionsource, such as a smeltingfactory or coal mine
•Within2 km of a medium pollutionsource, suchas a chemical, rubber, or electroplatingplant
•Within1 km of a light pollutionsource, such as a food/leatherprocessingplant or heating boiler
Unpacking
To prevent watervapor from accumulatinginside the device:
•After unpackingan OAU 2A, powerit on within24 hours.
•Do not power off an OAU 2A for more than 24 hours during maintenance.
Handling of OAU 2A or mounting kits
Wearcleangloves whenhandlingthe OAU 2A or mountingkits.
Moving and hoisting heavy objects
To move or hoist heavy objects, use appropriate equipmentand adhere to the followingguidelines:
•All personnel shouldwear helmetsand protective clothes, gloves, and shoes.
•Move heavy objects along a flat obstacle-freepath.
•Do not lift heavy objects by hand. Use appropriateequipmentinstead.
•Whenitemsare hoisted, ensure that those standing nearby are safefrom fallingobjects.
•Use hoisting tools properly. Do not exceed loadallowancesto prevent damageto pulleysor slings.
Lasers
Do not look into an opticalport without eye protection.
Local rules and regulations
If local rules and regulationsrequire that anti-corrosion measuresmust be taken for ground connections,
complywith local rules and regulations.
1
Extreme weather conditions
OAU 2A is usuallyinstalled outdoors. If weatherconditionsare extreme during an installation, personnel
should follow the related local guidelinesand regulationsto safeguardpersonal health and safety.
Safety Precautions

DC power
•Do not install or remove a live power cable. Any contact between the power cable core and a conductorcan generate
electric arc or sparks, whichmay cause fire or eye injury.
•Connectthe powercables correctly to the positive and negative terminalsof the power supplydevice (see circled No.1 in
the figure below). To prevent damage to power cables or devices caused by short-circuits,install a circuitbreaker on the
negative terminalof the power supplydevice (see circled No.2 in the figure below). The recommendedfuse capacityis 10
A to 16 A.
•Do not connectthe OAU 2A to an AC powersupply device. Otherwise, the OAU 2A may be damaged.
•Do not connect the RTN 320 to a DC powersupply device providing powerbeyond the range of –38.4 V to –57.6 V.
Otherwise, the RTN 320 may be damaged.
Do not leave any service cable unconnected
Do not leave any service cable unconnected(see the followingfigure).
If a service port is not in use, remove the cable from it and plug it with a waterproofblock.

If the GE (e) port is connectedto an outdoor network cablefor local maintenance, you need to set the GE (e) connectedto the WebLCT as an NMS port by using the NMS, or
configure the network adapter of the PC to enablethe PC to receive and transmit IP packetscarrying DCN VLAN IDs.
For the RTN 320, either the NMS/GE port or the independentNMS port can be connectedto a network cablefor connectionto the NMS, but they cannot both be connectedto
a network cable.
Use a ground clip to ground the outdoor network about 0.5 m to 1 m away from the equipmentroom before leading the cable into the equipmentroom.

PWRcable hole
The shield layers of all DC power cables and outdoor network cables must be grounded using wire clips.Otherwise,
the cables may be damaged by lightningstrikes.
The shield layer is
not exposed.
The exposed shieldlayer is so long that it extends to
the waterproof cabletrough. The shield layer is not
fastenedusing a wire clip.
The cable is not routed
through the waterproof
cable hole.
Screw the wire clip and ensure that the wire clipis
completelypressed againstthe shield layer withno
contact of the sheath.

Screw the wire clip so that it is tightly pressed against
the sheathof the outdoor fiber. Ensure that the fiber fits
into and is in good contactwith the waterproof cable
trough.
Connectthe fiber connectorto the GE3(o), COMBO,
MIMO1, or MIMO2 port.

Install an SFP opticalmodule in the GE3(o),
COMBO, MIMO1, or MIMO2 port.
The port provides the mis-insertionprevention
function. If you cannotinsert the SFP optical
moduleproperly, turn it and insert it again.
4Hoist the outdoor fiber to the installationposition.
Connectthe connectorlabeled"To: RRU" on the
outdoor fiber to the GE3(o), COMBO, MIMO1, or
MIMO2 port of the OAU 2A.

Use a box cutter to strip off a section of the cablesheath. Take care not to damagethe shieldlayer.
Install and waterproofthe ground clip.(See the appendixfor the waterproofing method.)
Two types of terminals(ground bar terminal and U-shaped terminal)are available for a ground clip.
Select a terminalas required.
•If a ground clip is installedon a thin cable, secure the ground clip by using the binding wiredelivered
withthe ground clip.
•For details about how to installground clips, see the use instructionsdelivered with the ground clips.
Ensure that the angle betweena PGND cableand a powercable is 15 degrees or less. If the power
cable is routed vertically, route the PGND cablefrom the top downwards. Do not route the ground cable
upwards.
If the IF cableis longer than 60 m, one more ground point is
required for every extra 30 m.
