ABOUT MANUAL
The HDP-1hasmanyfunctions.Theyareintroduced inrespectivechapters inthe manualaslisted
below. The BASIC FUNCTIONisrecommended to read at first. Read the ADVANCEDFUNCTIONin
caseyouneed.
BASIC FUNCTION
PLAYINPADand EXTERNALTRIGGERING-The unithas8built-inpadsand 5externalinstruments
canbe connected. Thesechapters giveyou essentialconcept how to playthem.
DRUM KIT-Theunit has80 presetpadkitsand 5externalinstrument kits. Eachkit is aconfiguration of
different voicesassigned to eachpad orinstrument. Voicescanbe layered -two voicesareassignedto
apad,theycouldbe playedinsingle, mixed orswitchwaydepending on how hardstriking the pad. The
kitis veryimportantconceptofthis drum.
GROOVEBOX-The GrooveBoxprovidesan interesting anduniquefeatureforyourperformanceand
entertainment.In thismode, the pad triggers musicalelementsincluding drum beatand otherinstrument
obbligato, effect sound and sequentialnotes.You can perform completemusicbystrikingpads.
PHRASE-Youcan recordyourperformanceand saveitasuserphrases.Then, you can playitback.
Two recording modesprovide easy wayto editthe recording inrealtime. Also, orchestration accompani-
mentscan be mergedinto the phrase.
METRONOME-Built-ineditable metronome is oneoftheusefulutilities.
ADVANCEDFUNCTION
SOUND EFFECTS-The drum isequipped with DSP devicethat generatessound effectsapplying to the
originalsound to improvesound qualityorchange characteristic of the sound.
DRUM KITEDIT-The unitprovidespowerfuleditfunctionallowsyoutoedit presetkit, forinstance,
assign voice to thepad, setitsvolume, pitch and pan,establishyourownlayermodeetc.
ADVANCEDEDIT –Thisfunction allowsyouto fine adjustbehaviorofthe padand externalinstrument
suchassensitivity, dynamicrangeetc, thoughthe manufactureralreadydidit. If necessary,readthis
chapterto learnhowto do ittoaccommodate yourtaste.
SYSTEM SETUP-Setup function allowsyou to setup system parameterssuch asmastertune, equal-
izeretc. Youcanalsocreate customsound effect module. These functionsare formore professional
requirement.
RESET-In caseyouwant to recoverfactorydefault setting, the Reset functionprovide different wayto
doit.

INSTALLATION
SupportBoardInstallation
Thisunit isfordesk-top application. It can be also mounted on stand ordrum kit rackwith support board
installed.
Align holesinsupport boardandbottom oftheunit,theninsertfourM6X12 screwsand fasten it.
StickStorage
There areattached stickstorage inthe right side on the unit. Insertstickinto the holeof the storage and
push it until the stick hooks in and hearclick sound.
Pushit again, the stick will pop out.
Note: Pleaseuse attached stick. Othersticks might haveloose orstuck problem.

Rotate theknob clockwiseto increasetheheadphone volumeand counter-clockwiseto decrease the
volume.
(2)MASTER VOLKnob: TheMasterVolume willaffectbothheadphonevolume andline outlevel.
Rotate the MASTER VOLknob tochange themastervolumeranged 0-127.Rotate the knob clockwise
to increasethe volumeand counter-clockwise to decrease the volume.
(3)Display: Information displaysuch asKit numberand name, pad selection statusetc.Thedisplayis
back-litLCD (LiquidCrystalDisplay)type.
(4)KITButton: Press thisbutton to enterthe Kitselection window.

Tip: When switch pedalisplugged inand assigned to Start/Stop type, it ll function asthe

(7)G.BOXButton: With theGrooveBoxfeature,thepadtriggers musicalelementsincluding rhythm,
chord, effectsound and sequencernotes. Pressthe button to enterthe GrooveBoxmode.
(8)CLICK Button: Metronome On/Off switch. Pressandhold down this buttonfor2secondsto engage
metronome setupmode. Whenthemetronome isengaged, indicatorof thebutton willflashpercurrent
beatandtempo
(9)PHRASEButton: Phrase isa short pieceofmusic can berecordedbyuser.It can be playedback
inloop.Press the button to enterthe Phrasemode.

Note: When youturnthe poweroff,do not turnit on immediately.Wait atleast fivesecondsto

disturbing others inthe room byplugging aset of headphonesinto the sockets.
(6)Expand TriggerJacks: Connect externalRidecymbal, Hi-Hatcymbal,Snare, Kickdrum and Hi-Hat
controlpedalthrough thesejacks.
(7)FootSW Jack: Pluginafootswitchpedal. The pedalcan be assigned todataplus/minus,Start/
Stopfeature foreasy operation bythe pedal. The default setting isdata plus/minus.Pleasereferto
Overall Setting section ofthe <SYSTEMSETUP> Chapterformoreinformation.
(8)USBJack: The USB connectorallowsyou to connectthe drum directlyto yourcomputer sUSB port.
The USB interface iscompatiblewith WindowsXP, WindowsVista, Windows7 and MAC OSx.The com-
puterwill recognize thedrum asAudio Device.
(9) MIDI In/OutJack: ThisdrumcontainsMIDI inand MIDI output portswhichallow communication with

isappliedto 8 built-inpads.Afterpoweron,the padkit
selectionwindowis engagedautomaticallywhiletheKIT

will be shown. The kit numberalsoappears in the right
side of the display.
RotatetheDataknobtoselectapadkit. Rotatetheknob
clockwise to increasethe kit numberand anticlockwise
to decrease the kit number. All pad kitslisted in the Ap-
pendix<KITLIST>in the back of the manual.
2.CHAIN
It is often tochange the pad kitduring the performance.
TheChainfeatureprovideseasyand fastwaytochange
thekit. You can organizedesired padkitsintoachain
then callyourfavorite kit consecutively.
Thereare10 pad kitscan be stored inthechain.In the Kit
Selectionwindow, The KITbutton functionsasa toggle
switchto selectnormalselection and Chainselection
mode.Press the KITbutton to engage theChainmode.

fordecreasing byone withthe Setup function. Please
referto the <SYSTEM SETUP> Chapterin the manual
fordetails.
Tip: You canuse thepedal as theDataKnob in

In thismode, two voicesareassignedtoeachpad. The sound layering dependsonhow hard youstrike
thepad. Thisfeatureallowsyou have moreexpressiveperformance.Thereare5 layeringtypesdetermin-
inghowvoicesof LayerAandLayerBarearranged.
Switch -you ll hearvoiceAwhen strikesofterand hearvoiceBwhen strikeharderthan the LayerPoint.
Mix -You llhearvoice Awhen strikethepadsofterand voice Bwillbe added when strikeharderthan the
LayerPoint.
Fade -You llhearvoiceAwhen strike the padsofterandvoice Bwillbe added graduallywhen strike
harderthan the LayerPoint. The strongerthestriking, themorethe voiceBwill be added.

INITIALIZATION
ThedefaultvariationisAforall pads.Ifyouwant, you
canchooseanyvariation asan initialvariationtostart
play.In the G.Boxmusic selectwindow,presstheSETUP
button,the musicname will bereplaced byblinking varia-
tion code A,B,C, D. Rotate the Date knob to change
variationtogether.Or,you canhitparticularpadsoft to
change itsvariation individually. Hitthe pad hardto dis-
ableitwhileitsvariationcodewill stop blink.Strike the
padagaintoenablethepad.
Press the EXITbutton to exitthe initializationand back
to the musicselect window.
Tip: The “disable”featureisusefulforSynchro-
nized startmode.
Note: RotatingtheData knobcannotchangethe
variationfordisabledpad.
ENTERTHEGROOVEBOXMODE
In the kit selectwindow, press the G.BOXbutton and its
indicatorwilllight up. The name of GrooveBoxmusicand
itsindexnumberwithprefix “b”willbeshown.The tempo
and beat of itwill appearon theright side of the screen.
When themusic numberisblinking,rotate theDataknob
to select GrooveBoxmusic.
PressingtheEXITorKITbutton toexittheGrooveBox
andturnto Kit window.
PERFORMANCE
1. PLAY THELOOPPARTS
Start playing loop partsbystrike the Pad 1 toplaybeat,
strikethe Pad 2 -4 to playobbligato 1-3.
Itsindicatorwill light up and corresponding block onthe
displaywill appear. The musicname will be replaced by
variationcodeand the code forworkingpadwillblink.
Then,onceyoustrikethepadsoft,it llchangetothe next
GROOVEBOX
variation.Thevariation change will occurfromthe next
note and keepthebeatand measureconsecutively.Strike
the pad hardto mute itand the block of thispad will
disappear,itsvariationcode will stop blinkaswell.

3. Playthe Effect Sound
Strikethe Pad 7or8totriggeran effectsound
immediately.Onlyasinglesound istriggered once,
therefore,youdon tneedtoturnitoff. Eacheffectsound
parthasseveraldifferentsounds. Onceyoustrikethe
pad, it ll change to the nextsound.
Note: Inthe GrooveBoxmode,the pad 1-4has
no strength sensitivityfeature.It isfortriggering
the beat andobbligato only.The pad 5-8has
strength sensitivityfeature,the harderthe striking,
thelouderthe volume.
Alternatively,you don tneed to stop beat and obbligato
partsbyhitting padshard separately.Press the but-
tontostopallpartsplayingandthebeat and measure
countwilldisappear.Press the button againto start
playall beat andobbligato partsfrom the first measure,
whichwaseffectivebefore the stop.
2. PLAY THESEQUENTIAL NOTE
Each G.Boxmusichassequence part. You can control
when itsnotessound.Whenyou strikepad 5or6, notes
willbe triggeredsequentially.Thevariationcode of the
pad5isthesame aspad1and thevariation code of the
pad 6 isthe same aspad 2.
The sequenceissynchronizedwith beat and/orobbligato
inmeasure. Only notesinthesamemeasureof thebeat
and/orobbligatocan be played.Thetriggering pointis
free withinthe measure, but Ifyoustrike thepad more
timesthanthe note numberof thismeasure,thenotes
will repeat.

Press the CLICKbutton, the metronomewill start
immediately.Themetronomesound islouderatthe first
beat and lowerforotherbeats. The CLICKindicatorwill
flashperbeat and tempo setting. The indicatorwill be
lighterat the first beet. Press the CLICKbutton again to
stop it.
Press andholddown the CLICKbutton for2 secondsto
setup themetronome; and theindicatorwill blink.The
metronome willkeepsoundingand responsetoyourset-
