ThisTroubleshootingManualhasbeendesignedforeasysimplestep-by-stepproblemsolving
andfaultisolation.
Itisimportanttoidentifyallofthepossiblecausesoftheproblembeforemakingafinaldiagnosis.
Whatyouseeatfirstisusuallyasymptomoftheproblem,notnecessarilytheproblemitself.
Readtheentiretroubleshootingprocedurerelatedtowhatyouaretestingforpriortoperforming
thetest.Thiswillgiveyouacleareroverallviewandhelptoavoidamis-diagnosis.

Priortotheservicecall,havethehomeownercheckthefollowing:
!Makesurespahasbeenfilledtothewaterlevelsuggestedbythespamanufacturer.
!Insurethatallwatershutoffvalvesareopenandarenotvibratingclosed.
!Adjustdivertervalvesand/orjetstoallowadequatebackpressuretoheaterassembly.
!If“ FLO” appearsonthespasidecontroldisplay:
!Havethehomeownerremovethefilterandoperatesystem.Iftheerrorgoesaway,afilter
cleaningisrequired.Thefiltermaynotlookdirty,wearedealingwithoils,lotionsetc...Use
anappropriatefilter-cleaningagent.
!Getdatalabelinformationoffofthespacontrol.

EquippedwithexclusiveVDSf(VisualDiagnosticSystem)byHydro-Quip,Troubleshooting
canbedoneatglance.Oncethespasequipmentcompartmenthasbeenaccessed,checktosee
ifaVDSindicatorhasbeenilluminated.Thedescriptionofthatindicatorsfunctionisprintedon
thefaceplate.Simplygotothatsectionandstartfromthere.
WithVDSyoucanseeifafusehasblown,andverifythattheheaterhasbeenactivated.If
equippedwithourexclusivelineofSmart Cords youcanverifycomponentpowersupply(single
ordualspeed).Otheroptionalfeaturesincludeexternallymountedfuses.
Systemcircuitrymayvaryandsomeoptionsmaynothavebeenincludedwiththe
particularcontrolyouareservicing.

controlyou’ venarrowedtheproblemdowntothepressureswitch.Performthefollowingteststo
besurethatyouhaveproperlydiagnosedtheproblem:
Note:Theremustbeenoughwaterinthespafornormaluse.Thiserrorcanalsobecausedbearestricted
flowofwatercausedbydebriscaughtintheplumbing.Theheaterwillnotactivatewhilethiserroris
displayed.
!Verifythatthepump(s)isfunctioningproperly.Ifthepump(s)isnotfunctioningproperly,
refertothePumpsectionthatapplies.
!Removethefilterandoperateasnormal.Iftheerrorclears,thefilterisdirtyandrequires
cleaning.Alsocheckforairlocks,closedvalvesoranythingthatwouldrestricttheflowof
water.
!Checkthepressureswitchcordconnectionsatthesystemcircuitboardaswellasatthe
pressureswitch.Checkforproperpintoconnectoralignmentandsecurity.
!Ifyou’ veverifiedthatthepump(s)isfunctioningproperly,thefilterisnotdirty,watershutoff
valvesareopen,thereisnodebrisintheplumbingcausingarestrictedflowofwaterand
thatallconnectionsaresecure,thepressureswitchrequiresadjustment.Refertopage5
forpressureswitchadjustment.
Error-FLO

Error-FLC
FLCwillonlyappearinthelowerspasidewindowwhenthepump(s)isnotoperating.Theerror
isalsoaprotectivefeatureandisanindicationthatthepressureswitchinneedofadjustment.
Performthefollowingteststobesurethatyouhaveproperlydiagnosedtheproblem:
Note:Theremustbeenoughwaterinthespafornormaluse.Theheaterwillnotactivatewhilethiserroris
displayed.
!Disconnectthepressureswitchcordattheprintedcircuitboard,iftheerrordoesnotgo
awayreplacetheprintedcircuitboard.

Thefunctionofthepressureswitchistoturntheheateroffifthepumpstopsoperatingorifthereisrestrictedwaterflow
(dirtyfilter,obstructioninthespaplumbingetc.).
Thepressureswitchhasbeenpresetatthefactorytooperateproperlyinnormalconditions.Adjustmentorotherservice
mayberequiredifyouobserveaflowrelatedproblem.Ifadjustmentisrequired,followthenextstepscarefully.
IMPORTANT:Afteranypressureswitchadjustment,itisimportanttotestthecontrolbyturningon
thepumplowspeedandheater.Whileoperating,unplugthepump,theheatermustturnoff.Ifthe
heaterstayson,plugthepumpbackinandreadjustthepressureswitchtoachieveproperoperation.
1)WithpowertosystemturnedOFF,removethewiresfrom
thepressureswitchterminals(securewiressafelytoprevent
anychanceofelectricalshock).
2)TurnpowertothesystemON.Ifsystemautomaticallystarts
inlowspeed,pressDownArrowkeytosettemperatureto
itslowestsetting(pumpwillturnoffaftercooldowncycle).
3)PlaceanOhmmeteracrossthepressureswitchterminalsto
verifyanOPENcircuit.
4)Rotatethepressureswitchadjustmentscrewcounter-
clockwiseuntiltheOhmmeterindicatesanCLOSEDcircuit.
5)Thenrotatethepressureswitchadjustmentscrewclockwise
untiltheOhmmeterindicatesanOPENcircuitagain.
6)TurnpowertothesystemOFFandreconnectpressure
switchterminals.Reapplypowertothesystemandresume
normaloperation.

If“ OH” or“ HL” appearinthelowerspasidedisplaywindow,anoverheatconditionhasbeen
detected.Itisnotsafetoenterthespauntilthiserrorhasbeencorrected.
Ifthewatertemperatureexceeds112BFatthesystemstemperaturesensor(locatedinaplumbing
dry-wellorinwet-wellinthespa)thesystemwillshutofftheheater“ OH” willappearinthelower
spasidewindowandallotheroutputswillbedisabled(pump(s),bloweretc.)untilthewater
temperaturedropsbelow110BF.
Ifthewatertemperatureexceeds119BFatthesystemshigh-limitsensor(clampedtothestainless
stealheaterassembly)“ HL” willappearinthelowerspasidewindowandthesystemwillshutoff
theheateronlyuntilthewatertemperaturedropsbelow110BF.Thepump(s),blowerandother
outputswillstayactive.
!Carefullychecktheheaterhousingfirsttoseeifitishottothetouch.Ifitistheremaybe
anobstructionintheplumbing,adirtyfilterorclosedwatershutoffvalve.Powermustbe
cycledoffthenbackonforthesystemtoresetthiserror.
!Checkthewatertemperaturewithanaccuratethermometer.Ifthetemperaturedisplayed
onthespasidecontrolgreatlydiffers,thetemperaturesensormaynotbefullyinsertedinto
thewet-wellormaybedefective.Inspectthesensor’ scircuitboardconnection(straighten
and/orcleanpinsifneeded).Ifthisdoesnotcorrecttheproblem,replacethesensor.
(Remembertoresetpowertocleartheerror)
!Itmaybenecessarytoinsulatearoundatemperatureorhigh-limitsensorthatisbeing
adverselyaffectedbytheambient(outside)temperature.
!Iftheweatherisextremelyhot,removethespacover.Runningtheblowermayhelpcool
thewater.Addcoldwaterifnecessary.
(Remembertoresetpoweroncethewaterhascooled)
!LowerthesystemssettemperaturebypressingtheUp/DownArrowkey,the“ HeaterOn”
indicatorshouldgoout.Iftheindicatorstayson,replacethesystemcircuitboard.

!Ifthe“ HeaterOn” indicatordidinfactgoout,thepumpmaybeoverheatingthespa.Lower
thedurationofthefiltercycleasfollows:
PressandholdtheProgramkeyfor5-secondsoruntil“ CL” appearsinthespasidedisplay.
Continuetopresstheprogramkeyuntil“ Fdu1” appears.Thisisthedurationthespasfilter1
cyclewillrun.PresstheLight/Enterkeytoaccessandmodifythissetting.UsetheDownArrow
keytolowerthenumber,whichrepresentsthenumberofhoursthefiltercyclewillbeactivetwice
aday.Oncethesettinghasbeensufficientlylowered,presstheProgramkeytoconfirmthe
change.ThedisplaywillthenrevertbacktothestandardTime/Temp.Repeatabovesteps,if
necessary,onfiltercycle#2(” Fdu2” ).
Itmaybenecessarytoinsulatearoundatemperatureorhigh-limitsensorthatisbeingadversely
affectedbytheambient(outside)temperature.
IfPrrappearsonthelowerspasidedisplay,thetemperaturesensorhasfailed.Checkthe
sensorscircuitboardconnection(cleanorstraightenpinsifnecessary).Iftheproblemisnot
resolvedthetemperaturesensormustbereplaced.Iftheproblempersists,replacethesystem
circuitboard.

FREEZEPROTECTION
SMARTWINTERMODE-thismodewillactivateanytimethetemperaturefallsbelow59BF.This
modewillbeactiveforaperiodof24-hours.Inthismode,ifapumphasnotbeenactivatedinthe
last2hours,thesystemwillautomaticallyturnitonfor1-minutetopreventfreezing.The“ Filter
Cycle” iconwillilluminatewhilethismodeisactive.

StandardProgramming
Duringyourtroubleshootingprocess,youmayfinditnecessarytoaccessthe“ Standard
Programming” (customerlevel)toverifyorchangesettings.Followtheproceduresbelow:
