Check the equipmentupon arrivalfordamage orshortagesand reportsametoourOfficeorAgentbefore
starting.
Position the Softenerand Brine Tankon afirmfoundation,preferablyconcrete,withsufficientspacefor
operation and maintenance.
STEP 1Makesurethe softenertankisemptyand clean. Removebrine tanklidand removeresinand
controlvalve.
STEP 2Install the distributortube inthe softenertank,check the heightinrelation totop ofsoftener
tank. (Approximately25mm abovethe top ofthe tank).
STEP 3Placeaplasticcap overthe end of the distributorpipe.Aclean rag orplasticbag will sufficeif
plasticcap isnot available- NO mediamust enterdistributorpipe.
STEP 4Placeawithmouthfunnelinthe mouthofthe tankand load the resinand fill withwaterto
within50mm ofthe top.The resin mustnot be allowed tobe spilled on the floorasitisvery
slippery and dangeroustowalkon.
STEP 5Clean top ofneck and threadsofall tracesofresin.Removethe plasticcap fitted inStep 3
taking carenot toraisethe distributorpipe. NEVER shorten the lengthofthe distributorpipe.
STEP 6Unpack controlvalve,check thattank‘O’ring isinplace.Screwintop strainerif notfitted.Fit
controlvalvetosoftenertank, screwdownhand tight. Attachbypass valveifsupplied and then
thread adaptornutsand pipe piecewiththe sealing gasket.
STEP 7Connect inlet, outlet pipesand drainline tocontrolvalveasperInstruction Booklet.
STEP 8Removelidfrombrine tank,connectbrine tube fromaircheck assemblyon controlvalve,to
brine risertube inbrine tank. Then connect brine overflowdrainline towastetrap.
STEP 9RefertoInstruction booklet forstart up procedure(page 23 "placing conditionerintoService")
STEP 10 Load twobagsof25kghigh puritywatersoftenersalt intobrine tankand replacelid.
STEP 11 Topreventthe brine tankoverflowing itwill be necessary tomaintainthe salt levelinthe tank
tothat ofthe initialfill and replenishthe salt aftertworegenerationswithone bag ofsalt.

Note:
Forafull understandingofyourwatersoftenerweadvise thattheinstructionmanual
providedwiththesoftenershouldbefullyread.
Afterthe watersoftenerhasbeen fullyinstalled withthe correctamountofsaltplaced inthe
brine cabinetorexternalbrine tankitwill be necessarytoprogramintothe 960
microprocessor,twofunctionstosuitlocalconditions.It will be necessarytoknowthe
‘hardness”ofthe watertobe softened.If the watersupplyisfromamunicipalsupplythe
hardness can be obtained fromthe local“waterauthority”.If the watersupplyisfromabore
ornon-municipalsupplythen the totalhardness wouldbe found fromthe wateranalysis
carried out when the softenerwasrecommended.
•The following will havetobe programmed intothe control
ðCurrent timeof day
ðHardness –of yourlocalwatersupply
•Plug transformerintomainGPO.
•Pushlead end intosocket underneaththe front of the valveon left hand side corner
•Check thatthe frontdialcamshaft position indicator(whiteline mark)ispointing to
“REGENERATIONCOMPLETE”position.
If not, turnpoweron at mains. The displaywill light up as“Err3”and the electricmotor
will automaticallydrivethe dialand camaround tothe regeneration completeposition.
Whatisnowshowninthe DISPLAY isan alternating “TIMEOFDAY“and “CAPACITY”
asindicated byagreen light highlighting the relevant setting.

Note:If when programming the figuresin,the displayrevertsback tothe green button
moving between “timeofday”and “capacity”,itjustmeansthatyou havetaken too long
toprogramthe settingsin.Donotworryall you need todo istopress the “SET”button
when the green lightisagainstthe setting and startoverinputting the figuresinabit
faster.
Makesureat the end of programming that the “set”button ispushed.

•Toinput “HARDNESS”
Note:thisprogramwill onlyacceptafigurerounded tothe nearest“TEN”.Egfora
hardness ofsay183 the 190 will havetobe programmed inthe setting iethe nexthigher
“TEN”numberwill havetobe selected.
Waittill the green lightmovestothe “TIMEOFDAY”then using the òbutton keep
pressing till the green light movesdownto“HARDNESS”then press “SET”button.
The ten digit(second fromthe left)will blink,using the ñò buttonsinputthe numeral
required eg. 190 hardness input 9
Using the ïbutton selectthe nextblinking digitand using the ñò buttonsinputthe
numeralrequired, eg. 190 hardness input 1
Using the ïbutton select the next blinking digit whichnormallyshouldbe zero‘0’for
mostwaterharness ifthe displayshowsanyothernumberotherthan zerothen use
the òbutton tobring it back tozeroand then press “SET”.
The softenerhasnowbeen programmed and can nowgo intoservice.However,itis
advisabletocheck the settingsinthe program,waittill the green lightmovesto“TIMEOF
DAY”.
•Check timeof dayiscorrect
•Press òbutton to“TIMEOFREGENERATION”2:00 shouldbe displayed
•Press òbutton to“HARDNESS”the hardness figurethat you put inshouldbe displayed
•Press òbutton “SALTAMOUNT”takenoteofthe figuredisplayed.Refertotable2in
the manualunder“SUGGESTEDSALTSETTING”the figureshouldcorrespond tothe
bottomnumberinthe right hand corner, under“KG OFSALT”heading.
•Press the òbutton to“CAPACITY”takenoteofthe figuredisplayed againrefertotable
2and the displayed numbershouldcorrespond tothe numberatthe bottomnumber
under“KILGRAMSOFHARDNESS CAPACITY”.
Pleasenote:When the displaygoesback toalternating the green lightbetween “TIMEOF
DAY”and “CAPACITY”thatthe capacitydisplayNOW will be different towhat hasjust been
checked,whatisnowdisplayed isthe volumeofwaterthatthe softenerwill pass in“CUBIC
METRES”beforeregenerating.However,when using the ñò buttonstocheck thissetting
the microprocessorwill displaythe “EXCHANGEHARNESS CAPACITYOFTHE
SOFTENER”and thiscan be modified if required, see the manualforfull details.

Itisrecommendedthatthesoftenerbenowgivenaregenerationsoas topre-clean
theresinbed. Beforethisisdoneproceedas follows:
•Turnpoweroff
•Makesureinlet watertosoftenervalveis“OFF”, outlet valve“OFF”and bypass open
•Verifythatdrainline isfitted and thatthereisan “AIRGAP”between the drainpipe and
wastehole.
•Remove“VALVE COVER”bypushing the tab,(atrearofthe coveratthe left hand back
corner) backwards
•The valvecamshaft isnowevident
Slowlyturnthe camshaft anti-clockwisesothatthe lasttwocams(atthe faremd)are
justriding on the twonarrowbrass endsarenowpushed overtothe righthand side.
The valveisnowinthe “BACKWASHPOSITION”
•Slowlyopen the mainsinletvalve.Donotopen fully,justenough thatairand waterwill
be discharged atthe drain.When no moreairisbeing expelled along withthe water,
closeoff the mainswaterinlet valve.
•Slowlyturnthe camshaft anti-clockwisetill the whiteline inthe round windowcomes
around tothe “REFILL”position.
•Turnon the “POWER”.The displaywill show‘Err3”and the controlwill advancethe
camshaft byitselfaround tothe “REGENERATIONCOMPLETE”position (thismaytake
up to5minutes)and the “Err3”being displayed will then revertback tothe “TIMEOF
DAY”/”CAPACITY”green light alternating.
•Oncethe displaygreen light isalternating
Pour10-12 litresofwaterintothe brine tankorcabinet. Thisisan initialamountof
waterutilised forthe first regeneration.
Open mainswaterinlet valve
Press the large “REGENERATION”button and holdforapproximatelytwoseconds
The green lightwill nowbe against“REGENTIMEREMAINING”whichisthe time
thatthe softenerisinthe regeneration mode and will decreasetill the softener
completesthe regeration.During thistimethe controlsgreen lightwill alternate
between “TIMEOFDAY”and “REGENTIMEREMAINING”.
