Check the equipmentupon arrivalfordamage orshortagesand reportsametoourOfficeorAgentbefore
starting.
Position the Softenerand Brine Tankon afirmfoundation,preferablyconcrete,withsufficientspacefor
operation and maintenance.
STEP 1Makesurethe softenertankisemptyand clean.
STEP 2Install the distributortube inthe softenertank,check the heightinrelation totop ofsoftener
tank. (Approximately12mm abovethe top ofthe tank).
STEP 3Placeaplasticcap overthe end of the distributorpipe.Aclean rag orplasticbag will sufficeif
plasticcap isnot available- NO mediamust enterdistributorpipe.
STEP 4Placeawide mouthfunnelinthe mouthofthe tankand FIRSTload the No.6gravel(16kg.)
and then the 100 litresofsoftening resinand fill withwatertowithin50mm ofthe top.
Note:-The resin mustnot be allowed tobe spilled on the floorasitisvery slippery and
dangeroustowalkon.
STEP 5Clean top ofneck and threadsofall tracesofgraveland resin.Removethe plasticcap fitted
inStep 3taking carenottoraisethe distributorpipe. NEVER shorten the lengthofthe
distributorpipe.
STEP 6Unpack controlvalve,check thattank‘O’ring isinplace. Fitthetop strainer intothe
bottomof thevalve ifnotalreadyfitted.The strainerhasabayonetstyleconnection end.
Assemblethe controlvalvetosoftenertank, and screwdownhand tight.
STEP 7Connect inlet, outlet pipesand drainline tocontrolvalveasperInstruction Booklet.
STEP 8Removelidfrombrine tank,connectbrine tube fromelbowassemblyon controlvalve,to
brine risertube inbrine tank. Then connect brine overflowdrainline towastetrap.
STEP 9Load the 2bagsof No.4Gravel(40kg.)evenlyaround the bottomof the brine tankand level
off, making surethe slotted distributorpipe inthe brine tankbottomiscovered bythe gravel.
STEP 10 Load ten bagsof25kghigh puritywatersoftenersalt intobrine tankand replacelid.
STEP 11 RefertoInstruction booklet forstart up procedure(placing conditionerintoService")
NOTE:TheINLETPIPE connection ison therighthand sideas viewed
fromthefrontofthevalve. Thetop strainermust befittedintounderneath
thevalve.

Lock) priortotheloading oftheresinand screwing on thevalvetothe
tank. Note NeverShortentheRiserPipeinstalledinsidethetank.

1.Watertobe tested shouldbe taken fromatap afterthe watersoftener
2.Measure10mlof waterintoplasticbottlesupplied (approximately1/3full)
3.Add one Yes/Notablettosamplewater,replacecap and shakeuntil tablet
hascompletelydissolved.
(NOTE:do nothandleYes/Notabletwithfingers)
4. The finalcolourtobe obtained forsoft waterisgreen.(Note:The shade of
green mayvary.)If the colourturnsred,the waterisabove20 mg/lhardness,
thereforeanotherregeneration isrecommended. Howeveriftherawwater
isveryhighinhardness itmaynotbepossibletoachieveareductionin
hardness below20mg/l butthesoftenerisstill workingcorrectly.
ConsultIBC Waterforfurtherclarification.

7.When used asabove,the tabletschange the colourfromgreen tored ata
hardness of approximately20ppmbased on asamplevolumeof 10mls.
Otherhardness testkitsareavailableformoreaccuratetestingeg.

Directions:Takea50mlsampleofwaterinascrewcapped bottle.Add one (1)
tablettosample,shakeorcrushtodisintegrate.Repeatuntil lasttrace
ofreddishtinge disappears.The finalcolourisusuallyblue butwith
somewateragreyishcoloured end point isobtained.
Using 50mlsample-
Hardness ppm=(numberof tabletsx40)-20
LR(BW)Tablets
Directions:Takea100mlsampleofwaterinascrewcapped bottle.Add one (1)
tablettosample,shakeorcrushtodisintegrate.Repeatuntil lasttrace
ofreddishtinge disappears.The finalcolourisusuallyblue butwith
somewateragreyishcoloured end point isobtained.
Using 100mlsample-

Note:Theprogram forM3inputwill onlyaccepttheinputting ofawholeorhalfanumber. e.g. Ifthe
calculated throughputissay 9.75m3then whatcan beprogrammed in is9.5or10.0. However, always
selectthelower figure i.e. 9.5in thisexample. Above 50M³ theprogram will onlyacceptincrementsin
2.5, therefore onlyinputalower figure eg. Calculation gives 93.3therefore input92.5.
Note:-The chart isbased on lowtomediumtotaldissolved solidswater,consult IBCWaterforusing the
softenerforwatersabove250 mg/Lhardness.

The WS1-E1hasbeen factory programmed withthe majorityof the commandsand parametersinstalled.It is
necessary on commissioning ofthe softenertoprograminthe M3throughput”and if desired another time of
day when regeneration istoproceed oracceptthe factory defaultof2am and tosetup the clock toregister
the currenttimeofday.The transformerplugsintothe adaptormounted on the back faceof the frontpanelof
the valve
The procedureisasfollows:
Plug in thetransformer into themainsand turn on –valve will sequence to theservice position.

Step 1I –Toenterinstallerdisplaypress the NEXT
and buttonssimultaneouslyfor5secondsand
release. Displayflashes.
Step 2I –Using the keys inputdesired
volumetric throughput capacity(table2)incubic
meters(Adjustablefrom0.5-250.0). It issuggested
the value entered be equaltothe actualvolumetric
capacityminusa1day’sestimated waterusage.
Press NEXT togo toStep 3I
Step 3I –Use or buttonstoSet to“OFF”.
Press NEXT togo toStep 4I.
Step 4I –Use or buttonstoset the timeofregen
‘hour’. Press NEXT togo toStep 5I. Ifthe factory
default of2amistobe changed.
Step 5I –Use or buttonstoset the timeofregen
‘minutes’. Press NEXT to exit installerdisplay.
SettingCurrentTimeofDay
Push NEXT button until TIME ofdayscreen is
displayed iebarappearsunderTIME function . Press
and holdthe OR arrowuntil aarrowappears
against SET and release the button and the hour
displayflashesand then set the correct hour. Then
press the NEXT button. The minuteswill flash. Press
the OR arrowuntil the correct minutesis
displayed. Noteonlypress one OR ▼button NOT
bothtogether.
Press the NEXT button toreturntothe displayscreens.
Ifthe NEXT button isnot pressed hoursorminuteswill
flashforfiveminutesbeforereturning todisplay
screen.
Then using the NEXT button select whichscreen you
wished displayed. Recommended toleaveon
‘remaining-M3’.
Exitbacktodisplayscreenwhichwould normallyshow
‘remaining M3’.Note:Whenin theprogrammode.Step1to
5.Ifitisdesiredtogobackoneprogramsteppress ‘regen’
buttontoreturnback.

Power outage
When electricpowerisinterrupted the microprocessorwill holdall relevant information inmemory except for
the current timeofday.
Currenttime ofday
When powerisrestored the displaywill showzerosand will againregisterwhen the current timeofdayis
reset. Ifpowerislost during aregeneration cyclethe valvewill remainoperationalinthe current cycleand will
recommenceelectricallyinthat cyclewhen powerisrestored.
Inlong poweroutagesit isadvisabletocheck that the systemisnot inaregeneration cyclethat couldbe
discharging watertodrainand inthisinstanceit wouldbe advisabletoplacethe valveinbypass mode until
powerisrestored.
General
Note: When changing valveoperationalcyclesthe valvecontrolwill emit anumberofwhirring sounds.
Note:-The valvecannot be positioned intothe regeneration mode without ELECTRICPower.
Note:-It isvery important that on commissioning the tankand valvebe completelyvented ofair.
