Thank you for purchasing the VS-3 Bluetooth®h e a d -
s e t .
This headset is compatible with Bluetooth®opera-
tion, and includes a [PTT] switch.
Please read these instructions carefully and com-
pletely before using.
Connecting the headset to other Bluetooth®device
Pairing is a process to be able to establish a connection between a headset and other Bluetooth®devices. Once pairing is
established with the device, there is no need to pair again.
• The indications or operation may differ, depending on the Bluetooth®devices. See the instruction manuals of the devices for
details.
• The headset operation may differ, depending on the connected device’s profile.
• If the paring fails, turn OFF the headset, and then repeat from step q.
In this manual, a transceiver with the Bluetooth®unit is described as simply “transceiver.”
Enter “0000” (four zeros), if a Passkey (PIN code) is required.
NOTE:
You may not find a target Bluetooth®device, if there are many other Bluetooth®devices nearby. In that case, stop using those
devices or move away from them.
When connecting to a transceiver
If the power is OFF, push q
[PWR] for 6 seconds.
• A melody sounds when the
power is turned ON.
• The LED alternatively blinks
red and blue, and then the
headset enters the pairing
mode.
Setting a transceiver.w
Turn ON the transceiver’s Bluetooth®function, and then
pair with the VS-3.
Example: When using the ID-5100A/E
qTurn ON the transceiver.
wTouch [MENU].
eTouch “Bluetooth.”
(Bluetooth setting > Bluetooth)
rTouch “ON.”
tTouch “Pairing/Connect.”
yTouch “Device Search.”
uTouch “Search Headset.”
• “ICOM BT-002” is displayed on the transceiver’s display.
i Touch “ICOM BT-002.”
oTouch [YES].
• Starts the connection.
Check the LED status.e
• When the connection is completed, the LED blinks blue.
• When the connection is completed, “(Connect)” is displayed on
the transceiver’s screen.
When connecting to a Bluetooth®mobile device
If the power is OFF, push [PWR] for 6 seconds.q
• A melody sounds when the power is turned ON.
• The LED alternatively blinks red and blue, and then the headset
enters the pairing mode.
Setting your mobile device.w
➥Turn ON the mobile device’s Bluetooth®function, and
then pair with the VS-3.
• See the mobile device’s instruction manual for details.
Check the LED status.e
• When the connection is completed, the LED blinks blue.
NOTE:
Some mobile device may not be able to pair with the VS-3.
You may not be able to use some Bluetooth®features, de-
pending on the mobile device.
Automatic Power OFF function
After disconnecting, or if no Bluetooth®device is found after
the power is turned ON, the VS-3 automatically turns OFF
after 5 minutes.
When the VS-3 is not connected to any device, even if the
power is ON, the LED blinks blue.
Transmit from a transceiver using the VS-3
This section describes how to transmit from a transceiver
using the VS-3.
First, set the frequency and the operating mode.
While holding down [PTT], speak to transmit.q
• When transmitting, the LED alternately blinks red once and blue
twice.
Release [PTT] to receive.w
Hands-free operation with your Bluetooth®mobile device
This section describes how to use the hands-free operation with your Bluetooth®mobile device.
Making a call
Make a call on your mobile device.q
Push [FWD].w
• You can communicate with the hands-free operation.
• The LED blinks twice in blue in every 5 seconds.
• Depending on the connected mobile device, you may not be
able to use the hands-free operation.
Push [FWD].e
• Returns to the normal operation mode.

Answering a call
When a ring tone sounds, push [PWR].➥
• You can communicate with the hands-free operation.
• The ring tone sounds even if your mobile device is in the man-
ner mode.
NOTE:
If you hold down [PWR] for more than 3 seconds, the head-
set power is turned OFF.

Push [PWR].➥

For your reference:
When the One-touch PTT function is set to ON on the trans-
ceiver, pushing [PTT] toggles transmitting and receiving.
When the transceiver’s VOX function is set to ON, you can
use the headset for hands-free operation.

Playing music
To play music, the Bluetooth® device must correspond to the A2DP prole.
Confirm your Bluetooth® device’s prole.
The supplied earphone is not for listening to music.
We recommend that you purchase a third party earphone to listen to music.
Playing or Pausing music
Select the music that you want to play in your mobile de-q
vice.
Push [PLAY].w
• While playing music, push [PLAY] to pause.
• While playing music, the LED blinks blue twice every 2 sec-
onds.
Stopping music
While playing or pausing music, push [PLAY] to ➥
stop.
• Music starts from the beginning by pushing the play switch after
the music stops.
Rewind music
While playing or pausing music, push [RWD] to re-➥
wind.
• While holding down [RWD], the headset continues to rewind.
Forward music
While playing or pausing music, push [FWD] to for-➥
ward.
• While holding down [FWD], the headset continues to forward.
Playing next music
Push [FWD].➥
Playing previous music
While stopping music, push [RWD].➥
• While playing music, the LED blinks twice in blue in every 2
seconds.

NOTE:
The operation may differ, depending on the Bluetooth®de-
vice or music player application.
You may not be able to use some Bluetooth®functions, de-
pending on the Bluetooth®device.
Initializing the headset
If abnormalities occur on the headset, turn OFF the power,
and then turn it ON again after a few seconds. If the condition
continues, initialize the headset.
Turn OFF the power.q
• If the power is ON, hold down [PWR] for 3 seconds.
After holding down [PWR] for 2 seconds, simultaneously w
hold down both [PWR] and [VOL](–) for 10 seconds.
• The LED lights purple, and then turns OFF.
Forced termination
If the headset does not operate normally, try the following to
perform a force power OFF.
Push [RESET].➥

When the connection is disconnected from the transceiver, two beeps sound.

The MIC gain has three levels. When the level 3 is selected, 3 beeps sound, the level 2 is selected, 2 beeps sound, and the level 1 is selected,

When the VS-3 is connected to both a paired transceiver and the mobile device, the transceiver has priority. However, when you push [PWR]
while operating the transceiver, the connection switches to the mobile device. Pushing [PTT] returns to the transceiver connection.
