•Followtheproceduresexactlyasstatedinthismanual,andheedallDANGER,WARNING,and
CAUTIONstatementsinthismanualaswellasthoseonthevehicleandbatterycharger.
•Donotleavechildrenunattendedonvehicle.
•Priortoleavingthevehicleunattendedorservicingthevehicle,settheparkbrake,placethe
Forward/ReversehandleorswitchintheNEUTRALposition,turnthekeyswitchtotheOFFposition,
andremovethekey.Chockthewheelswhenservicingthevehicle.
•Improperuseofthevehicleorfailuretoproperlymaintainitcouldresultindecreasedvehicle
performance,severepersonalinjury,ordeath.
•Anymodicationorchangetothevehiclethataffectstheelectricalsystem,stabilityorhandling
ofthevehicle,orincreasesmaximumvehiclespeedbeyondfactoryspecications,couldresultin
severepersonalinjuryordeath.
•Checkthevehicleforproperlocationofallvehiclesafetyandoperationdecalsandmakesuretheyare
inplaceandareeasytoread.
•Forvehicleswithcargobeds,removeallcargo(includingaccessories)beforeraisingthebedor
servicingthevehicle.Ifthevehicleisequippedwithaproprod,ensurethatitissecurelyengaged
whilebedisraised.Donotclosebeduntilallpersonsareclearofcargobedarea.Keephandsclearof
allcrushareas.Donotdropcargobed;lowergentlyandkeepentirebodyclear.Failuretoheedthis
warningcouldresultinseverepersonalinjuryordeath.
•Onlytrainedtechniciansshouldserviceorrepairthevehicleorbatterycharger.Anyonedoingeven
simplerepairsorserviceshouldhaveknowledgeandexperienceinelectricalandmechanicalrepair.
Theappropriateinstructionsmustbeusedwhenperformingmaintenance,service,oraccessory
installation.
Gasolinevehiclesonly:
•Toavoidunintentionallystartingagasolinevehicle,disconnectthebatteryandsparkplugwire.See
DisconnectingtheBattery–GasolineVehiclesonpage19.
•Frameground–Donotallowtoolsorothermetalobjectstocontactframewhendisconnectingbattery
cablesorotherelectricalwiring.Donotallowapositivewiretotouchthevehicleframe,engine,or
anyothermetalcomponent.
Electricvehiclesonly:
•Ensurebatteryconnectionsarecleanandproperlytightened.SeeBatteryCareonpage53.
•PlaceTow/RunswitchintheTOWpositionbeforedisconnectingorconnectingthebatteries.Failureto
heedthiswarningcouldresultinabatteryexplosionorseverepersonalinjury.
•Toavoidunintentionallystartinganelectricvehicle,disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethe
controller.SeeDisconnectingtheBatteries–ElectricVehiclesonpage21.
•Useonly4-gauge(AWG)wireswithlow-resistanceterminalstoreplacebatterywiresonIQPlus
models.
Allvehicles:
•Wearsafetyglassesorapprovedeyeprotectionwhenservicingthevehicleorbatterycharger.Weara
fullfaceshieldandrubbergloveswhenworkingonornearbatteries.
•Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelrysuchasrings,watches,chains,etc.,whenservicingthe
vehicleorbatterycharger.
•Useinsulatedtoolswhenworkingnearbatteriesorelectricalconnections.Useextremecautionto
avoidshortingofcomponentsorwiring.
