Fire and eak Guard
WFC101 user Manual
The function of the Fire and Leak Guard
The Fire and Leak Guard is a safet device that
protects the washing machine/dishwasher from
electric fires and leaks. When the Fire and Leak
Guard is connected to the washing
machine/dishwasher, it starts to follow the
corded leak sensor (8) and to listen to the room.
If the Guard notices that the washing
programme is jammed, the washing
machine/dishwasher is taking too much power
for too long, the fire alarm signals or the leak
sensor has identified a leak, it cuts off the
electricit suppl and the water to the washing
machine. The water is cut off b using a
magnetic valve. Thus the Fire and Leak Guard
can stop electric fires and prevent water
damage.
When the washing machine/dishwasher is
switched on, the Fire and Leak Guard turns the
electricit and water suppl on and starts the
timer automaticall . A short while after the
washing programme has finished, the Guard
switches the electricit and water suppl off
(when the time in the timer has finished). The
automatic timer is factor set to one hour. Note that the timer will start from the switching on of the washing
machine/dishwasher, not from the starting of the washing programme. Therefore, if the washing programme is
started long after the switching on of the washing machine/dishwasher, the timer might cut the electricit suppl
and the water off in the middle of the programme.
B pressing the button (1) on the Guard the electricit can be turned on and off. If the electricit suppl is cut off
because of the timer, it can be turned on again either b turning the washing machine off for a while and then on
again, or b pressing the button (1) on the Guard once. The signal light (2) indicates that the washing machine is
connected to the electricit . B turning the switch (3) with a small screwdriver, the identification of the alarm
signal can be adjusted. The Fire and Leak Guard is factor set to identif the most common fire alarms.
Installing
1. Connect the Fire and Leak Guard between the plug socket and the plug of the washing machine/dishwasher.
Adjust the magnetic valve (5 Optional Water Solenoid WS101) between the machine’s hose and tap (see the
picture on the back page).
2. Turn the electricit on b pressing the button (1) on the Guard.
3. Do an alarm test with the fire alarm. The fire alarm should be located at a maximum distance of five (5)
meters from the Fire and Leak Guard. Let the fire alarm signal for at least 15 seconds. Check that when the
fire alarm signals, the Guard turns the electricit suppl off successfull . When the electricit suppl is

turned off the Guard will emit a repetitive signal. If ou are using a leak alarm as well, repeat the test
alarm with that, starting from the point 2.
4. Connect the leak sensor(s) (8) to the input (4) at the side of the Fire and Leak Guard. Turn the electricit
suppl on b pressing the button (1). Repeat the alarm test b squeezing the leak sensor between our
fingers. If the Fire and Leak Guard doesn’t cut off the electricit , change the position of the Guard in the
plug socket.
5. Position the Leak Sensor under the washing machine/dishwasher, at the front or in the middle. Attach the
sensor from both ends b using a double-sided tape (enclosed), so that the middle of the sensor is left
loose.
6. If ou wish to use another leak sensor (accessor ), position it under the sink, as low as possible,
preferabl under the lower shelf of the cupboard, as close to the drain and the water pipes as possible.
7. Switch the electricit back on b pressing the button (1). The Guard is now read for use.
If a fire/leak alarm doesn’t cause the Fire and Leak Guard to react, check that it’s not located farther than five
(5) metres from the Guard. If the Guard doesn’t identif the alarm even though it is at a right distance and
ou’ve let the alarm to signal for at least 15 seconds, tr adjusting the identification of the alarm signal (see
below).
Adjusting the identification of the alarm signal
Switch the appliance on and do an alarm test with the fire/leak alarm. While the alarm signals, turn the switch
(3) on the Guard slowl from one extremit to another, using a small screwdriver, until the Guard reacts b
cutting off the electricit suppl . If ou use multiple alarms note that after the position of the identification
switch has been changed, the Guard ma onl identif this particular alarm signal if it is ver different from the
other signals. If turning the switch (3) still doesn’t cause the Guard to react it is possible that this fire/leak
alarm is not compatible with the Guard. A list about fire alarms recommended b Innohome can be found at
www.innohome.com.
Using the timer
The timer starts automaticall when the washing machine is switched on. The timer will carr on until the time
in it has finished, it won’t reset even if the appliance is turned off and on again. To reset the timer, first switch
off the washing machine and then press the button on the Guard once. If there are more than one appliances
connected to the Guard, switch all the appliances off first and then press the button on the Guard. Note that if
the washing programme is started a long time after the switching on of the washing machine/dishwasher, the
timer might cut the electricit and water suppl off in the middle of the programme.
Setting the timer
If the Fire and Leak Guard cuts off the electricit and water suppl in the middle of the washing programme the
timer needs to be set to a longer period. To do this, detach the Guard from the plug socket, wait for a while and
then connect it back. Then (within 15 seconds) push the button (1) down. When the signal light starts to flash,
keep the button down for another 4 seconds. Release the button and then set the time b pressing the button as
man times as ou want the time to be: one push equals 30 minutes. So for one hour 30 minutes, press the
button three times. For two hours, press it four times, and so on. (The timer is factor set to one hour.) When 5
seconds have passed from our last press, the Guard will let ou know the time that has now been set b giving
out signals, each equalling 30 minutes. For instance, If the timer has been set to an hour and a half, the Guard
will give out three signals.
Checking the time on the timer
To check what time the timer is set at, press the button (1) for five seconds. The signal light (2) will start to
flash. After a while the Guard will show the time set in the timer b emitting signals, each signal means 30
minutes. For example, two signals means that the timer is set for an hour, three signals stands for an hour and a
half and so on.
Turning the timer function off (for washing machines/dishwashers that have a timer)
If ou don’t wish to use the timer function in the Guard, it can be turned off in the following wa : Detach the
Guard from the plug socket. Wait for a short while, and then reconnect it. Push the button (1) down. When the
signal light (2) starts to flash, keep the button down for another 4 seconds and then release the button. Now the
timer function is off and the Guard can be used with a washing machine that has a timer. The Guard will cut off
the electricit and water suppl in the event of a fire alarm or in fault situations, but not after the washing
programme has finished.
Installing a remote control (accessory)
To install a remote control (accessor ), press the button (1) for five seconds. Once the signal light starts to flash,
press the on/off button on the remote control which will stop the flashing. Now the remote control is read for
use.
Resetting the alarm
When the Fire and Leak Guard has identified an alarm and cut off the electricit suppl , it will emit a repetitive
signal. To turn the electricit back on, press the button (1) either on the guard or on the remote control
(accessor ).
Note
It is important to test the functioning of the Fire and Leak Guard at least once a month. Also make sure to change
the batteries and clean the fire/leak alarm according to the instructions. Dirt or a weak batter in the fire/leak
alarm ma cause Fire and Leak Guard not to identif the alarm’s warning signal.
Frequently Asked Questions
What to do when... The Guard doesn’t react to the alarm signal of the fire/leak alarm?
Clean the fire/leak alarm with a hoover. Check the batter of the alarm and change it if needed. If the Fire and
Leak Guard still fails to identif the signal tr adjusting the identification switch on the Guard (see “adjusting the
identification of the alarm signal”).
The Guard reacts to a warning signal of another appliance, not the fire/leak alarm?
Tr adjusting the identification switch (3) so that the Guard identifies the alarm signal of the fire/leak
alarm but doesn’t react to the other appliance. Sometimes the Fire and Leak Guard might react to a
sound coming through a TV, if it’s on a ver high volume, for example. Some ring tones of mobile
phones ma cause a false alarm. If so, change the ring tone.
The Guard has cut off the electricit and water suppl and is giving out a repetitive signal, but the fire alarm
hasn’t signalled?
The cut-off is caused b the leak sensor. Check if there is a leak somewhere, and if so, start the
maintenance work. Dr the leak sensor well before switching the washing machine/dishwasher back
on. If there is no leak, the leak sensor is dirt . Clean it well and dr properl before using it again.
The Guard is cutting off the electricit and water suppl whilst the washing programme is still running?
Check that the tap is open properl and that the waste water hose is ok. On some occasions some
momentar alterations ma cause the cutting off of the electricit and water. If this is the case the
electricit and water can be turned on again b pressing the button (1) on the Guard. After switching
the electricit and water back on, it is recommendable to make sure that the washing programme and
the intake and outlet of the water work normall . After the programme has finished it’s good to check
the waste water filter. If the electricit and water turn off again the timer might be set for too a short
time. To change it, see “setting the timer”. Note also that the timer starts from the moment the washing
machine is switched on, therefore if the washing programme is started long after that, the timer might
cut the electricit off when the programme is still not finished.
The Guard doesn’t turn the electricit and water on even though the washing machine is switched on?
The Guard cannot recognize the switching on of some washing machines/dishwashers that have
certain electronic programming equipment. In these cases the water and electricit have to be turned on
before switching on the washing machine/dishwasher, b pressing the button (1) on the Guard.
