3 Installation Procedure
Installation procedure consist of evaluation of power requirements, mounting accessories, power
and communication lines wiring to S-Node G2, C-Node G2, Moveo, Moveo XL, mounting,
connecting cables, setting switches and verification.
Evaluate optional accessories that will be used.
If the reader shall be mounted outdoors and there is risk for that it can be exposed to rain,
proper protective housing must be used.
Evaluate power requirements as described in section 4 Power Supply. Same time evaluate
required power cables determined by required power and length of the cables.
Select cables used for communication lines as described in section 5 Communication and
address.
Determine an appropriate mounting position for the device. The card reader is supported to be
installed on walls, mounting column, mounting brackets. The back plate of the unit contain
rubber sealing so it SHALL BE NOT used as a template for drilling. Use attached drilling
pattern instead.
Route the interface cables to S-Node G2, C-Node G2, Moveo or Moveo XL or to the other reader
if the actual reader is in the middle of the bus. Route cables to other accessories to be
connected.
Install the bottom part of BCR-SD G2 box to the wall. Feed all cables inside the box to
appropriate position and fix them to the box with cable ties.
Connect all cables to the terminals as required.
Set termination jumper SW1 to enabled (default setting) if the actual reader is placed at the end
of the bus, otherwise disable termination.
After wiring the BCR-SD G2 and accessories, device is ready to be tested. If the card reader
have been properly installed, connect terminal PL1 to the BCR-SD G2. The card reader will
beep for 1 second and starts working after short while (this is valid only in case that system was
already configured at PC level and that the parent node is up and running). This indicates that
unit is working properly.
Set the device address according requirements. Default address is “1”. For setting follow
procedure in the section Setting address
Assemble the unit by pressing the top part down on the back plate. Ensure correct positioning
in the top before it is pressed into place.

3.5 Installation on metal surfaces
When device is installed on metal surface is strongly recommended to use proper accessory
44282070 Installation plate for xCR-SD G2.
This will minimize problems with low reading distance caused by interfering with metal surface.
3.6 EN 50131 Grade 3 - Wall tamper
When installing reader in an intruder alarm grade 3 installation it is required to use wall tamper
and wall tamper springs must be installed.
Note: wall tamper springs are not possible to use together with mounting angles or the distance
plate. The springs (for wall tamper) do not detect removal from the wall if you use mounting angle
or a distance plate.
Installation procedure:
1. Open device using opening tool.
2. Cut tamper activators placed at bottom cover at plastic level.
3. Install springs from bottom side.
4. Fix bottom cover with screws at installation place. Surface level needs to be even.

4 Power Supply
BCR-SD G2 does not use its own power supply, instead it is powered from S-Node G2, central unit
C-Node G2 or Moveo/XL. The S-Node G2 is normally powered from central unit where power
supply and communication line are distributed together to door environments.
S-Node G2, C-Node G2 and Moveo/XL are equipped with fused terminals to supply power to card
readers.
4.1 Power requirements
Before starting installation, power requirements needs to be evaluated.
Typical power consumption is 45 mA, but increases to 170 mA when the embedded heating element
is turned on at low ambient temperatures. When calculating power consumption for the entire
installation, it must be calculated that readers mounted outdoors consume up to 170 mA.
4.1.1 Power supply
The device is powered by terminal PL1. Connector for power supply and communication line is
fixed to bottom cover and it’s released from electronics while opening device.

5 Communication and address
There is one RS485 communication line to/from the BCR-SD G2.
5.1 Setting address
For proper communication on RS485 device needs to have proper address assigned. All devices
have from production address 1. If another address is required default address must be changed by
following next steps:

5.2 RS485 communication line
The RS485 bus must be configured as a bus with no branches. The bus needs to be terminated at
each end. Jumpers are provided on each device (Moveo, Moveo XL, C-Node G2 or S-Node G2 and
card readers) to enable or disable termination. Up to two card readers can be connected to the same
S-Node G2, in-reader and out-reader.
Since together with communication line is distributed also power line we do use mixed cable to
supply both in one.

5.2.2 Line termination
SW1 CR RS485 termination
RS485 bus terminated
No termination
For RS485 termination must be On at beginning and end of line only, all other devices must have it
Off.
SW1 RS485 Termination
5.2.3 Recommended cable
Maximum length of RS485 line can be up to 1000 meters from the first to last unit on the bus.
Always use twisted pair cables, and we always recommend the use of shielded cable for connecting
card readers.
NOTE:
ALWAYS calculate total power consumption and choose a cable with conductor cross-sectional
area designed for that total power consumption.
ALWAYS calculate voltage drop before selecting cable.
5.2.3.1 PTS-HF-2x2x0.6
We always recommend screened, twisted pair cables, type PTS-HF-2x2x0.6 for RS485 lines.
A screened cable is considerably more difficult to wiretap than an unscreened cable.

1-981-2180-GB, 2021-03-16 BCR-SD G2 Page: 16
SystemHouse Solutions
Higher cable cross-sectional areas may be necessary in the case of long lines, as voltage drops can
be expected.
5.2.4 RS485 network topology and termination principles
•Linear double terminated bus
•Linear double terminated cascade bus with S-Node G2 in the middle.
Star formation in the wiring from S-Node G2
•Two linear double terminated cascade buses on C-Node G2.
RS485 lines from C-Node G2 can have bus formation although wiring is performed as a star
network. This can be done by using two cable pairs for the bus, "RS485 out" and "RS485 in".
C-Node G2 can be equipped with an optional connection block for this, CG2-VDE
