Production Configurations
Base Unit Description
This section contains information needed to order and configure a production Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2. The
unit is shipped as a complete, fully integrated, system. The base system includes software; however there are optional
software packages available to upgrade the functionality of the unit.
1) The Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2 contains the following
Hardware
1 x 3U system chassis (including Serial ATA hard disk drive backplane)
1 x Intel® Server Board SE7501HG2
16 x Intel® hard disk drive carriers (for use with Serial ATA drives)
2 x Intel® RAID Controller SRCS28X
2 x 700 W power supply modules
16 x Serial ATA hard disk drive cable
2 x compact flash readers
2 x Intel® Xeon™ Processor 3.06 GHz
* See end of this section for specifics on memory configurations. Always consult the Technical
Product Specification (TPS) for the latest technical information.
Software
SAN management software (installed on unit)
Storage System Console (remote configuration and management tool)
2) The following optional software packages are offered as accessories for the SSR316MJ2 base unit:
Scalability Package: allows multiple units to pool storage and connectivity recourses
Configurable Snapshot Package: allows snapshots to be created automatically
Remote Data Protection Package: offers remote volume copy over IP networks
NOTE: Intel®Storage System SSR316MJ2 memory upgrade guideline -
Required (for functionality): 100 MB plus 200 MB per 1 TB of raw storage installed. Example: for 16 x 250 GB
drives, memory requirements = 100 MB + (200 MB x 4) = 900 MB, therefore 1 GB.
Recommended (for optimum performance): 128 MB per 250 GB drive installed. Example: 128 MB x 16 = 2 GB.

period. To continue usage, package must be purchased and software key must be entered into each system individually via
the Storage System Console. One license foreach of these features can be used on up to 3 Intel® Storage System
SSR316MJ2 units in the same management group.
