For your own safety, please be sure to follow these safety precautions:
Mains power supply: Connect t e unit only to a mains power supply t at as t e following c aracteristics:
90-260 V AC, 50-60 Hz
Connection to the TV set an vi eo recor er: Here, too, t e receiver must be disconnected from t e
mains power supply before using a Scart cable to establis connections to t e TV set and video recorder.
Optimum location: Set up your digital receiver indoors, in an area w ere it is protected from lig tning,
rain water and direct suns ine. Ensure a minimum distance of 5 cm around t e apparatus for sufficient
ventilation. Ensure t at t e ventilation is not impeded by covering t e ventilation openings wit items, suc
as newspapers, table-clot s, curtains, etc… Do not place naked flame sources, suc as lig ted candles
on t e apparatus. Do not expose t e apparatus to dripping or splas ing. Do not place objects filled wit
liquids, suc as vases on t e apparatus.
Do not open the unit: Never open t e casing, as you are in danger of electrocution!
Protect from humi ity: Ensure t at no umidity, dampness or liquid can get into t e unit. You s ould
t erefore also not position any liquids near t e receiver. Do not use any liquid detergents, as t ese may
damage t e unit, and may subject you to ig -voltage s ock.
Prevent intrusion of foreign matter: T e receiver is fitted wit small ventilation slits on t e top and along
t e sides to assist in circulating air. Small objects could fall into t ese slits, so please do not put any objects
on top of t e receiver.
Ensure a equate ventilation: Never cover t e ventilation slits on t e unit casing. W en in operation, t e
digital receiver s ould be placed on a straig t and solid base. It s ould not be placed in direct suns ine
nor too close to a eater or radiator. Ensure t ere is sufficient free space around t e unit for free air
circulation. Use t e apparatus only in moderate climates (not in tropical climates).
Protection from lightning: In case of t understorms, switc off t e receiver, disconnect from t e main
power supply, and disconnect t e antenna cable from t e unit. T is will prevent your appliances being
damaged w en t ere is a t understorm in your area.
Use only original parts an accessories: Use only original parts, or parts recommended by a specialist
retailer, as ot er parts may cause damage to t e appliance, or bear t e risk of personal injury. Non-
observance of t is warning cancels t e unit guarantee. Any repairs s ould only be carried out by qualified
specialist personnel. Take attention to t e environmental aspects of battery disposal.
Disconnecting power uring exten e absence: If t e appliance is to be unattended for an extended
period of time, e.g. w en you go on olidays, you s ould disconnect it completely from t e mains
power supply.
Retain original packaging material: Please retain t e original packaging, s ould it be necessary at some
stage to return t e unit.
The manufacturer un ertakes no responsibility for amage or injury cause by non-observance
of these safety precautions, or by inappropriate han ling of the appliance.

Batteries:
Batteries are required to operate t e remote control unit (supplied wit unit) To insert t e batteries, open t e
battery compartment cover on t e rear of t e remote control unit, insert t e batteries (AA size, 2 x 1.5 Volt),
and replace t e compartment cover.
Spent batteries s ould not be discarded in your domestic refuse. In most countries, you are legally obliged
to ensure spent batteries are properly recycled. T ey can be disposed of eit er in special bins provided in
your community, or may be returned to any retailer w o sells batteries.

4. Connecting an operating the receiver
4.1 Connections
Your digital receiver provides a multitude of possible connections to ot er appliances. Here we list t e
most important options available.
4.1.1 Connection to the terrestrial antenna
T e digital receiver is connected directly to a terrestrial antenna on t e ANTENNA IN connector (see page
4, connections on t e rear panel item 3). , by means of a coaxial cable. T is connection must be done
w ile t e receiver is switc ed off.
4.1.2 Connection to the TV set
Digital receivers and TV sets are usually connected by means of a Scart cable. Simply connect t e two
ends of t e cable wit t e main socket on t e TV set and wit t e TV socket on t e receiver, respectively.
T e Scart connection ensures t at audio and video signals are transmitted to t e TV set in optimum quality.
4.1.3 Connection to a vi eo recor er
Just as t e TV set, t e video recorder is connected to t e receiver via a Scart connection. Use t e “VCR“
socket for t is purpose.
4.2 On/Off switch
Press t e On/Off key (Standby), on t e remote control. T e receiver is now ready for operation. Now switc
on your TV set, if it is not already switc ed on, and set it to an “AV“ programme slot (“EXT“,”AV“, “External
Source“, or similar).
W en you ave completed connecting t e digital receiver to t e terrestrial antenna and t e TV set, as well
as to t e video recorder w ere applicable, you can now proceed to switc it on for t e first time. In order
to do t is, press t e On/Off (Standby) key on t e remote control. T e receiver will now be switc ed on.
T e receiver is now ready for operation.
To switc t e unit off, press t e Standby key.

4.3 Programme selection
4.3.1 Using the irectional Up/Down or Ch+/Ch- keys
You can move up or down t e programme list one slot at a time by using t e two
C +/C - or Up/Down keys on t e remote control unit. W en an interactive TV application is
active, only t e C +/C - keys do allow zapping as t e Up/Down keys can ave anot er
functionality wit in t e interactive-TV application.
A screen wit t e information about t e current selected c annel
is appearing t en. T is information screen can also be activated
by pressing t e rig t key.
4.3.2 Using the numeric keys
If you want to select a programme directly, and you know its
programme number, t en it is easiest to enter t e programme
by means of t e numeric keys. As t e receiver is equipped to
store many programmes, t e programme number mig t ave
two digits. However, you can also enter a number consisting
of only one digit.
4.3.3 Using the programme list
Press t e “Guide” key on t e remote control or select t e option
“TV Guide” in t e Main Menu; a programme list will now be
displayed on-screen.
Use t e Up/Down directional keys to navigate t roug t is list
one programme slot at a time, backward or forward.
Press t e “OK/Menu“ key to view t e selected programme.
4.4 Subtitling activation
Some TV broadcasters provide subtitles, carrying commentary
in various European languages, to accompany t e TV image.
To use t is facility, press t e “Sub“ key. It eit er activates or
deactivates t e subtitling.
Warning: If t is function is deactivated in t e settings part of
t e receiver, t e “Sub” key is disabled.

4.5 Zapping
Various options exist to facilitate quick switc ing between programmes:
a) Fast zapping using the irectional keys Ch+/Ch- an Up/Down:
Press t e directional C + or Up key to select t e next ig er programme in t e
programme list and t e directional key C - or Down to select t e next lower
programme in t e list.
b) Direct selection using the numeric keys:
As soon as a numeric key as been pressed, a small display field appears on
screen, w ic will display t e selected c annel number. A c annel number may
consist of up to two digits. After a digit as been entered, t e receiver will wait to
see w et er any more digits are going to be entered. If no additional digits are
entered, t e receiver will switc to t e programme slot selected.
Example 1: You wis to select c annel 1
Press “1“ on t e remote control
T e receiver will wait for 1 second to find out
w et er any more digits are to be entered
T e receiver will t en switc to c annel 1
Example 2: You wis to select c annel 12
Enter “1“ on t e remote control, followed by
“2“ wit in no more t an 1 second of t e first digit
T e receiver will wait for 1 second to find out
w et er any more digits are to be entered

4.6 Teletext
T e teletext or videotext feature
familiar from analogue TV
programmes is also broadcast on many digital
TV programmes. T e digital receiver is
equipped to decode t e teletext/video text
signal internally, and to display it on t e
TV screen.
Press t e ”Teletext“ key to display t e videotext or teletext of t e programme currently being viewed.
T e teletext/video text will be displayed as an overlay on t e screen over t e current TV image.
In order to view a specific page of teletext/video text, use t e numeric keys to enter t e t ree-digit page
number. T e receiver is capable of storing a large number of videotext pages in a temporary memory,
w ic reduces waiting times w en calling up a new page. Enter “100“ at any time to return to t e ome
page of t e teletext/video text pages of t e TV programme being viewed.
You may use t e directional keys Up/Down to page quickly t roug t e complete teletext/video text section
of a particular TV programme. T e benefit of t e temporary page storage function is of particular benefit
w en using t is function for fast page scanning.

4.7 Calling up the Main Menu
T e receiver can now be individually configured, using t e
on-screen menu display.
Press t e ”OK/Menu“ key on t e remote control. T e Main
Menu will be displayed.
Now use t e directional keys to select t e line “Settings“,
and confirm by pressing t e “OK/Menu“ key.
In t e sub-menu “Settings“ select t e entry “Audio/Video
Settings“, and confirm by pressing t e “OK/Menu“ key.
Navigation on t is page is exclusively done by using t e
Up/Down directional keys, and options are scrolled over
wit t e Left/Rig t navigation keys.
4.7.1 Screen Size
Size 4:3 or 16:9 can be selected.
4.7.2 TV Scart

4.8 Programme Search
Using t e “OK/Menu“ key, call up t e Main
Menu, select t e sub-menu “C annel Searc “ and an
automated c annel searc process starts.
4.9 Pro uct information
In t e last category of t e Settings display you will find
detailed tec nical information relating to t e product.
T ese mig t be relevant for t e after sales services.
Especially, t e SW built date can be seen in t is information
window.
T e sub-display “Product Information“ provides you wit all
data relating to t e ardware and software of t e receiver.
Eac unit as an own unique serial number (Product ID).
W en making service calls it is important to specify t e
ardware version applicable, as t e tec nician t en knows
exactly w ic components, circuit boards, etc. ave been
used in t e unit.
4.10 Software Downloa
T e receiver software can be updated via t e antenna and
can t us be kept up to date at all times.
How to start a Software Up ate: Press t e OK/Menu key
to call up t e Main Menu, t en select “Settings“. Here you
s ould select t e sub-display “Software Download“.
Now, eit er you c oose t e Auto mode, select option 6
“Start Scan” and press t e OK/menu to start t e update
process or you fill all t e tec nical information about t e
transponder in your country and press t e OK/menu wit
“Start Scan” selected to start t e Software Update process.
Please contact your local retailer for obtaining t e tec nical
details of t e transponder in your country if t e Auto Mode
is not working.

4.11. Personal planner
T is personal planner function allows defining events and
reminders. T e receivers will zap t en automatically to t ese
events or remind t em to you.
To activate it, select “Personal Planner” from t e Main Menu.
Select first a date, during w ic you want to set an event
and press t e blue information key to add a reminder event
and t en follow t e instruction in t e information bar at t e
bottom of t e screen.
Press t e “OK/Menu” key on t e current date ( ig lig ted
in blue to define an event for today. T e TV guide list appears
t en; it is possible to toggle between t e Main and favourite
list using t e yellow function key. Details of a c annel can
be seen wit t e red key. Press finally select to define an
event.
4.12. Default settings
A reset function is provided to return t e receiver to all t e
default settings programmed at t e factory before delivery
to t e customer. T is deletes all subsequent programming
commands, and means t at you ave to start again wit
t e installation procedure.
A reset always makes sense w en a large number of settings
ave accidentally been made incorrectly or in error.
In order to proceed wit a reset, press t e “OK/Menu“ key
to call up t e Main Menu. Select t e entry “Default Settings“
and press t e “OK/Menu“ key to confirm your selection.
In t e next display, you will be given t e option of pressing
t e Select function key to confirm t e selection, or t e Exit
function key to abandon t e reset and return to t e Main
Menu.
Please note: if you press the select function key at this
stage in or er to start the reset proce ure, all in ivi ual
settings relating, e.g. to antenna configuration, channel
list, sorting of channels, etc., will be lost permanently!

5. Trouble-shooting
If it becomes necessary to return t e receiver for repairs, please use t e original packaging if possible,
and return t e receiver complete wit all accessories.
Please include a copy of t e original sales receipt, as well as a detailed description of t e problem.
