SECTION 1 - SAFETY INFORMATION
Safety Information
Read and understand this instruction manual completely before using this
instrument. Failure to observe the warnings and cautions in this instruction
manual may result in injury, death or damage to the instrument and other
equipment or property.
If this instrument is used in a manner not specied in these instructions,
the protection provided by the instrument may be impaired.
Warning
Identies hazardous conditions and actions that could cause BODILY HARM
or DEATH.
Caution
Identies conditions and actions that could DAMAGE the tester or equipment
under test.
WARNING
• Examine the instrument and probes before use. Do not use the instrument if
it is wet or damaged
• When using test leads or probes, keep your ngers behind the
nger guards
• Remove test leads from instrument before opening the battery door or
instrument case
• Use the instrument only as specied in this manual or the protection by the
instrument might be impaired
• Always use proper terminals, switch position, and range
for measurements
• Verify the instrument is operating correctly by measuring a known voltage
before use. If in doubt, have the instrument calibrated
• Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on instrument, between
terminals or between any terminal and earth ground
• Only replace the blown fuse with the correct type and rating as specied in
this manual
• Use caution with voltages above 30 Vac rms, 42 Vac peak , or 60 Vdc. These
voltages pose a shock hazard
• To avoid false readings that can lead to electric shock and injury, replace
battery as soon as low battery indicator “<” appears
• Disconnect circuit power and discharge all high-voltage capacitors before
making resistance measurements
• Do not use the instrument in hazardous areas or around explosive gases or
vapours
• Wear suitable personal protective equipment when working around or near
hazardous live conductors which could be accessible.

4
IIT 1500 English
CAUTION
• Disconnect the test leads from the test points before changing the position of
the function rotary switch
• Never connect a source of voltage with the function rotary switch in the Ω,
50V,100V,250V, 500V or 1000V position
• Do not expose the instrument to extremes in temperature or high humidity
• Never set the instrument in Ω, 50V,100V, 250V, 500V or1000V function to
measure the voltage of a circuit. This could result in damage to the tester and
the equipment under test.

Preparation and caution before measurement
: Observe all warnings and cautions
When connecting the test leads to the device under test connect the common
(COM) test lead before connecting the live lead; when removing the test leads
remove the live test lead before removing the common test lead. The gures on
the following pages show how to make basic measurements.
Measuring ACV/DCV: Auto sense function
Auto sense mode: The instrument displays ACV or DCV whichever is higher (>0.3V).
If the measured voltage is above 660Vac/dc, “> 660Vac/dc” will appear on
the display.

TEST
&
1. Before starting the test:
The circuit under test must be completely de-energized.
If the voltage detected is above 30V, “>30V” will appear on the display.
In this condition the test is inhibited.
1. Before starting the test:
(a) The circuit under test must be completely de-energised. Check the fuse before
testing. See “Testing the fuse” later in this manual. Connecting to an
energised circuit whilst the test is active will cause the fuse to fail. If the detected
voltage is above 2V, “>2V” will appear on the display. In this condition the test is
inhibited.
(b) Short the test leads before measurement and press the blue button to
compensate for probe resistance that is less than 2Ω. When the probe
resistance is stored, “->0<-” symbol will be displayed.
2. To start the test press and hold the TEST button on either the probe or the
instrument. The test will continue until the button is released.
3. The instrument displays the “>” symbol when the measured resistance is
higher than the maximum value for the range.
4. Lock mode:
Press the LOCK button to enter the Lock Mode.
Press the TEST button to start the test.
The test will continue until the TEST or LOCK button is pressed again.

1. Before starting the insulation test: Press the COMP button to select the
comparison value from 100kΩ, 200kΩ, 500kΩ, 1MΩ, 2MΩ, 5MΩ, 10MΩ,
20MΩ, 50MΩ, 100MΩ, 200MΩ and 500MΩ.
2. If the measured value is greater than the selected comparison value, the
green PASS indicator will be turned on.
