Get ready to hone your skills as a Pokémon trainer! In order to
play the Surprise Attack Game, every player needs one
Pokémon Battle Figure, at least 3 attack disks, and 1 Surprise
Attack Poké Ball!
If you want to practice gameplay strategies with your attack
disks, play with the 1 Player Training Rules.
If you’re playing with 2 Players, try the Junior Trainer Rules or
take things to the next level with the Master Trainer Rules.
GAME SUMMARY GETTING STARTED

A round of gameplay consists of 3 spins.
Training Rules gameplay consists of
1 Round.
Junior Trainer Rules and Master Trainer
Rules gameplay consist of 2 to 3 rounds.
1Select a Surprise Attack Poké Ball and Pokémon Battle Figure to
use as your own.
2Select a different Surprise Attack Poké Ball and Pokémon Battle
Figure to train against. This Surprise Attack Poké Ball will be
referred to as the “Training Partner.”
3Open both Surprise Attack Poké Balls and set both meters at the
base of the Poké Balls to their starting position.
4Load your Pokémon Battle Figure into your Surprise Attack Poké
Ball and the Training Partner’s Pokémon Battle Figure into the
Training Partner’s Surprise Attack Poké Ball.
5Select 3 attack disks that you want to use as your own and select
3 different attack disks that will be used by the Training Partner.
6Flip the Training Partner’s 3 attack disks upside down and shufe
them randomly.
SET-UP
1Complete the 1-Player Set-Up (See above)
2Select one of the Training Partner’s upside down attack disks,
ip it over, and load it into the Training Partner’s Surprise
Attack Poké Ball.
3Pick an attack disk for your Battle Figure that you think would
work best against the Training Partner’s disk.
4When you’re ready, load 1 of your 3 attack disks into your
Surprise Attack Poké Ball.
5Shut both Surprise Attack Poké Balls and twist both
counterclockwise until they lock into place.
6Press the red buttons at the base of both Surprise Attack Poké
Balls to cause them to rotate towards each other, open, reveal
the Pokémon inside, and spin the attack disks.
7When the attack disks stop spinning, check the red arrow on the
base of the Surprise Attack Poké Balls to see the result of the
Training Partner’s spin and your spin.
8Lower both meters based on the results.
9Remove the attack disks from both Surprise Attack Poké Balls and
discard them from play.
10 Repeat Steps 1-9 until the round ends after 3 spins or a player’s
meter is depleted.
11 Win the round by depleting the Training Partner’s meter rst or at
the end of 3 spins have a more full meter than the Training Partner.
12 Training Rules gameplay consist of 1 Round.

EXAMPLE: Your spin resulted in an attack of 3 and the Training Partner’s
spin resulted in an attack of 2. You lower your meter by 2 and the
Training Partner’s by 3.

Both players open their own Surprise Attack Poké
Balls and set the meter at the base of the Poké Balls
to its starting position.

Both players select the Pokémon Battle Figure they
want to battle with this round.

Select 3 attack disks you want to use this round.

Load the Pokémon Battle Figure you selected and
one of the attack disks you selected into the
Surprise Attack Poké Ball.

Shut the Surprise Attack Poké Ball.

Twist counterclockwise until the Surprise Attack
Poké Ball locks into place, then get ready to play.
1Both players complete the 2-player Set Up (See above)
and keep the Pokémon and attack disks that they
select a secret!
2Both players simultaneously press down on the button
to start play.
3Both players’ Surprise Attack Poke Balls rotate
towards each other and open, revealing the Pokémon
inside and spinning the attack disks.
4When the attack disks stop spinning, both players
check the red arrow on the base of the Surprise
Attack Poké Ball to see the result of their spins.
5Each player lowers their respective meter based on the
result of the opposing player’s spin.
6After every spin, both players must remove the attack
disk they used and load a different disk for the next
spin. Each attack disk can only be used once per round.
7Win the round by depleting the opposing player's
meter rst or at the end of 3 spins have a more full
meter than the opposing player.
8Best 2 out of 3 rounds wins a Junior Trainer Rules game.
EXAMPLE: Player 1’s spin resulted in an attack of 3 and
Player 2’s spin resulted in an attack of 2. Player 1 lowers
their meter by 2 and Player 2 lowers their meter by 3.

2Both players simultaneously press down on the button to start play.
3Both players’ Surprise Attack Poké Balls rotate towards each other and open, revealing the Pokémon inside and
spinning the attack disks.
4When the attack disks stop spinning, both players check the red arrow on the base of the Surprise Attack Poké Ball
to see the result of their spins.

6Depending on the Pokémon both players chose and the attack disk result of each spin, additional points are
deducted.
7The rst player to deplete the opposing player’s meter rst or end 3 spins with a more full meter than the
opposing player wins the round!
8Best 2 out of 3 rounds wins a Master Trainer Rules game.
EXAMPLE: Player 1’s spin resulted in an attack of 3 and Player 2’s spin resulted in an attack of 2. Player 1 lowers their meter by 2
and Player 2 lowers their meter by 3.

Pokémon during this round and Player 2 is using a Fire-type Pokémon during this round. Water-type attacks have an
advantage against Fire-type attacks, so Player 1’s attack of 3 is increased by 1. Player 1 lowers their meter by 2 and Player 2
lowers their meter by 4. (See Example A)

TROUBLESHOOTING
EXAMPLE A
If a player closes the Surprise Attack Poké Ball but decides
they want to make a change, they can turn the Surprise
Attack Poké Ball slightly to release it.
ADDITIONAL RULES
A single attack disk can only be used once per round.
Pokémon gures are kept in the Surprise Attack Poké Ball until the end
of each round.
At the start of a new round, both players reset their meter to 7 and
choose a different Pokémon gure to place in the Surprise Attack
Poké Ball.
If multiple Pokémon Battle Figures are not available, the same
Pokémon gure can be used every round.
If an attack disk spin lands on a line and is unclear which attack it
landed on, the player must re-spin their Surprise Attack Poké Ball.
If a round of Junior Trainer or Master Trainer rules ends in a draw,
both players may choose any Attack Disk that they played previously
and play one additional ‘tiebreaker’ spin to determine the winner of
that round. The player who gets the highest result in the tiebreaker
spin wins.
If a round of Training Rules ends in a draw, the player wins!
