POWER CONNECTION
1. Plug the cord of the power d ptor into the DC IN JACK (#15) loc ted on the b ck
of the JCR-298.
2. Plug the power d ptor into household w ll socket. The unit is powered up nd in
st ndby mode when you see the displ y turn on nd begin fl shing.
Battery Back-up system
• The r dio is equipped with b ttery b ck-up system. It requires 2 x AAA b tteries
(Not included).
• Open the BATTERY DOOR (#12) on the b ck of the unit. Insert the b tteries into
the b ttery comp rtment nd m ke sure the positive nd neg tive (+ or -) sides of
the b tteries re in cont ct with the corresponding termin ls in the b ttery
comp rtment. Repl ce the BATTERY DOOR (#12).
• If power out ge occurs, the unit utom tic lly switches to the b ttery power
supply nd keeps the clock settings.
• When repl cing the b ttery, do not disconnect the power d ptor. Otherwise, ll
clock nd l rm settings will be lost.
Note
The unit will still oper te without the b tteries inst lled, but the time nd l rm settings
will be lost nd h ve to be reset in the event of power interruption or f ilure.
CAUTIONS
1. Do not mix old nd new b tteries.
2. Only use good qu lity/n me br nd b tteries.
3. Do not mix lk line, st nd rd (c rbon-zinc) or rech rge ble (nickel-c dmium)
b tteries.

4. If the unit is not going to be used for n extended period of time, ple se remove
the b tteries. Using old, le king or che ply m de b tteries c n c use d m ge to

STANDBY MODE
St ndby Mode is when the unit is first plugged into n AC power source (displ y
fl shing) or fter ll the settings h ve been m de nd the time is showing on the
displ y. St ndby mode is lso en bled when the Bluetooth/R dio/AUX re off, no
buttons re pressed nd no l rms re sounding.
CLOCK SETTING
The LED DISPLAY (#11) will be fl shing when the unit is plugged in for the first time.
The unit is now in st ndby mode.
Setting the Time
1. In st ndby mode, press nd hold the TIME SET BUTTON
(#7) until the hour digits of the clock displ y begin to
fl sh.
2. Repe tedly t p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5)
or SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to set the hour.
Press nd hold the buttons for f st dv nce/reverse setting. M ke sure the correct
AM or PM time is selected when setting the hour.
Note The PM INDICATOR (#10) is loc ted in the upper left p rt of the displ y.
The PM INDICATOR (#10) will light when the hour digits selected re for PM time.
The PM INDICATOR (#10) will be off when the hour digits selected re for AM time.
3. Press the TIME SET BUTTON (#7) to confirm the time nd the minute digits will
fl sh.
4. Repe tedly t p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5)
or SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to set the minute.
Press nd hold the buttons for f st reverse/ dv nce
setting.
5. T p the TIME SET BUTTON (#7) to confirm nd complete the setting. The displ y
will stop fl shing.
Note
The unit will utom tic lly s ve the settings nd exit the time set mode if you do not
press ny buttons within 10 seconds.

ALARM OPERATION
The JCR-298 fe tures du l l rm clock.
Setting the alarms
1. In st ndby mode, press nd hold the ALARM 1 BUTTON
(#3), the hour of the l rm time will fl sh.
2. T p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP
FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to set the hour. Press nd
hold the buttons for f st reverse/ dv nce setting. M ke sure the correct AM or PM
time is selected when setting the hour.
Note The PM INDICATOR (#10) is loc ted in the upper left p rt of the displ y. The

4. T p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP
FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to set the minute. Press nd
hold the button for f st reverse/ dv nce setting.
5. T p the ALARM 1 BUTTON (#3) to confirm the
minute setting.
6. T p the ALARM 1 BUTTON (#3) repe tedly to select the w ke up option (ALARM
1, R dio 1 or BT 1) nd complete the ALARM 1 setting.
7. Setting the ALARM 2 time uses the s me steps bove, but using the ALARM 2
BUTTON (#4) in pl ce of the ALARM 1 BUTTON (#3).
Note: The unit will utom tic lly s ve the settings nd return to St ndby mode if you
do not t p ny button within 10 seconds.
Setting the “wake to” alarm source
1. In St ndby mode, t p the ALARM 1 BUTTON (#3). The ALARM 1 time will fl sh on
the displ y nd the current ALARM 1 st tus indic tor will light on the left side of the
displ y.
2. Repe tedly t p the ALARM 1 BUTTON (#3) to select the l rm source.
W ke to Al rm – ALARM 1 indic tor lights.
W ke to R dio – RADIO 1 indic tor lights.
W ke to Bluetooth – BT1 indic tor lights.
Al rm OFF – All ALARM 1 indic tors (ALARM 1/ RADIO 1/ BT1) on the left side of
the displ y re OFF.
3. Setting ALARM 2 will follow the s me steps s ALARM 1 bove, but you will be
using the ALARM 2 BUTTON (#4) nd the ALARM 2 indic tors will be on the right
side of the displ y.
Waking to Alarm - Turning the “wake to” Alarm ON
A beeping Al rm will utom tic lly turn on when the l rm time is re ched. The
corresponding ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 indic tor will fl sh.
The volume level of the l rm will st rt out low nd gr du lly incre se to m ximum
volume.
Press the SNOOZE BUTTON (#1) to tempor rily turn off the l rm, or press the
SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the l rm off.
If no buttons re pressed when the l rm is sounding, it will continue sounding for
60 minutes nd then turn off utom tic lly.

Wake to Radio (AM or FM) - Turning the “wake to” Radio ON
The R dio will utom tic lly turn on when the l rm time is re ched. The
corresponding RADIO 1 or RADIO 2 indic tor will fl sh.
The unit will st rt pl ying the l st r dio st tion you listened to when the w ke time
is re ched, so m ke sure the st tion is set to the one you w nt to w ke up to.
The volume level will st rt out low nd gr du lly incre se to m ximum volume.
Press the SNOOZE BUTTON (#1) to tempor rily turn off the r dio, or press the
SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the r dio off.
If no buttons re pressed when the r dio is pl ying, it will continue pl ying for 60
minutes nd then turn off utom tic lly.
Wake to Bluetooth - Turning the “wake to” Bluetooth ON
NOTE In order to w ke to Bluetooth device, the device must be p ired with the
JCR-298 prior to using the w ke to Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth Device will utom tic lly connect with the l st connected Bluetooth
device nd resume pl yb ck when the l rm time is re ched. The corresponding
BT 1 or BT 2 indic tor will fl sh.
The unit will resume pl ying the l st music or udio you listened to on the
Bluetooth device when the w ke time is re ched.
The volume level will st rt out low nd gr du lly incre se to m ximum volume.
Press the SNOOZE BUTTON (#1) to tempor rily turn off the Bluetooth device, or
press the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the Bluetooth device off.
If no buttons re pressed when the Bluetooth device is pl ying, it will continue
pl ying for 60 minutes nd then turn off utom tic lly.
NOTE The JCR-298 will utom tic lly switch to WAKE TO ALARM if it c nnot
connect with the Bluetooth device or if the Bluetooth device w s not p ired properly.
Review the Alarm time setting
In st ndby mode, t p the ALARM 1 / ALARM 2 BUTTONS (#3 / #4) once. The
corresponding l rm indic tor nd l rm time will be fl shing on the displ y.
The unit will utom tic lly return to st ndby mode if no buttons re pressed within 5
seconds.
Turning the daily alarms OFF
In St ndby mode, repe tedly t p the ALARM 1 BUTTON (#3) to step through the
“w ke to” options shown on the left side of the displ y.
Al rm 1 -> R dio 1 -> BT1 - > OFF ( ll indic tors off nd returns to the current time)
The ALARM 1 time will fl sh on the displ y s you step through the options.
All ALARM 1 options re dis bled when the indic tors re off nd the current time
is showing on the displ y.
Turning off ALARM 2 will follow the s me steps s ALARM 1 bove, but you will be
using the ALARM 2 BUTTON (#4) nd the ALARM 2 indic tors will be on the right
side of the displ y.
Notes
• For setting one-d y l rm, set the desired l rm time the d y before following the
“Setting the alarms” section bove.
• The l rm will sound the next d y t the set l rm time.
• After turning off the l rm, follow the “Turning the daily alarms OFF” section
bove to prevent the l rm from sounding g in the next d y.

SNOOZE FUNCTION
When the l rm sounds, t p the SNOOZE BUTTON (#1) to tempor rily turn off the
l rm nd ctiv te the snooze function. The l rm will stop nd turn on g in 9
minutes l ter. This c n be repe ted when the l rm sounds g in.
Notes:
• The corresponding AL1 or AL2 l rm indic tor will fl sh during the snooze period.
• To c ncel the snooze period nd the l rm, press the SOURCE/ STANDBY
BUTTON (#2).
RADIO OPERATION
Listening to the radio
1. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the unit on.
2. If you repe tedly t p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2), you will step through
the different modes v il ble: FM R dio -> AM R dio -> Bluetooth (bt) - > AUX
3. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) repe tedly to select either FM or AM
r dio mode.
4. The FM or AM frequency will show on the LED displ y (#11).
5. Manual Tuning Repe tedly t p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP
FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to m nu lly djust the frequency.
6. Automatic Tuning Press nd hold the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or
SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to utom tic lly tune to the next or previous
v il ble st tion.
7. T p the VOL - / + BUTTONS (#3 / #4) to obt in the desired volume level.
8. Press nd hold the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the r dio off.
Notes
• Use Manual Tuning to select we ker st tions th t might be skipped during
Autom tic Tuning.
• If the Autom tic Tuning does not stop on the ex ct frequency of the st tion, for
ex mple, it stops on 88.9 MHz inste d of 88.8 MHz, use the m nu l tuning method
to “fine tune” to the ex ct frequency of the desired st tion.
• When in r dio mode, the displ y will utom tic lly switch b ck to show the time
fter few seconds.
• When listening to the r dio, you c n check the frequency of the st tion you re
listening by t pping the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) once. The unit will utom tic lly return to St ndby mode if you
do not t p ny button within 10 seconds.
TIPS FOR BEST RADIO RECEPTION
AM - The AM ntenn is built inside the r dio. If AM reception is we k, ch nge the
position of the unit until the intern l ntenn picks up the strongest sign l.
FM - If FM reception is we k, fully extend the FM ANTENNA (#13) nd v ry the
position nd loc tion of the ntenn until you find the strongest sign l.

To set / recall the radio presets
The unit llows you to store up to 10 FM st tions nd 10 AM st tions for e sy rec ll t
ny time.
1. If you repe tedly t p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2), you will step through
the different modes v il ble: FM R dio -> AM R dio -> Bluetooth (bt) - > AUX
2. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) repe tedly to select either FM or AM
r dio mode.
3. T p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON
(#6) to select the desired st tion.
4. Press nd hold the PAIR / PRESET BUTTON (#8) until “PXX” shows on the LED
DISPLAY (#11).
5. T p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON
(#6) to select preset number (P01-P10).
6. Press the PAIR / PRESET BUTTON (#8) g in to confirm the preset.
7. Repe t steps 2 through 6 to preset up to 10 st tions.
8. To rec ll one of the preset st tions lre dy progr mmed, t p the PAIR / PRESET
BUTTON (#8) repe tedly until you re ch the desired preset number/r dio st tion.
9. You c n lso rec ll one of the preset st tions by pressing the PAIR / PRESET
BUTTON (#8) once nd then press the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or
SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON (#6) to select preset st tion.
BLUETOOTH OPERATION
Pairing a Bluetooth enabled device with the JCR-298.
1. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the unit on.
2. If you repe tedly t p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2), you will step through
the different modes v il ble: FM R dio -> AM R dio -> Bluetooth (bt) - > AUX
3. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) repe tedly to select Bluetooth mode.
4. “bt” will show on the LED DISPLAY (#11) nd the Bluetooth indic tor will turn on
nd fl sh.
5. Turn on the Bluetooth function of your device nd en ble the se rch or sc n
function to find the JCR-298.
6. Select the JCR-298 from the device list when it ppe rs on your device’s screen. If
required, enter the p ss code “0000” to p ir (link) the JCR-298 with your device.
7. If you re p iring (linking) your computer to the JCR-298 using Bluetooth, you m y
need to set the JCR-298 s your computer’s def ult sound device.
8. After p iring the JCR-298 with your Bluetooth device successfully, The Bluetooth
indicator
will light ste dily.
9. If you w nt the JCR-298 to p ir with nother Bluetooth device, press nd hold the
PAIR / PRESET BUTTON (#8) until the Bluetooth
indicator
fl shes. The unit will
go into P iring/Discover ble mode.
10. Repe t steps 4 & 5.
Now you c n pl y music from your Bluetooth device wirelessly to the JCR-298.
1. Select song nd press the Pl y/P use Button on your Bluetooth device or
PLAY/PAUSE
(#7) on the JCR-298 to pl y or p use the Bluetooth device
pl yb ck.
2. T p the SKIP BACKWARD
BUTTON (#5) or SKIP FORWARD
BUTTON
(#6) to select the Previous or Next tr ck.

Notes:
Refer to the m nu l of your cell phone, t blet PC, computer or other Bluetooth
en bled devices for Bluetooth oper tion since it m y v ry from model to model.
If your Bluetooth en bled device does not support A2DP profile, it will not pl y the
music through the spe ker, even if p ired (linked).
Remember to turn off the JCR-298 when you h ve finished listening.
Don't forget to switch off the power of your extern l udio device s well.
AUX IN OPERATION
You c n pl y other music sources (iPod, MP3 or other digit l udio pl yers) through
the spe ker of the JCR-298 by connecting the AUX IN JACK (#14) to your extern l
pl yer’s udio out j ck or he dphone j ck.
1. Plug one end of n udio c ble (not included) into the AUX IN JACK (#14) nd the
other end of the c ble to the he dphone j ck of your digit l udio pl yer.
2. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) to turn the unit on.
3. If you repe tedly t p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2), you will step
through the different modes v il ble:
FM R dio -> AM R dio -> Bluetooth (bt) - > AUX
4. T p the SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2) repe tedly to select AUX mode.
5. “AUX” will show on the LED Displ y (#11).
6. Turn on nd st rt pl ying the extern l device you plugged into the AUX IN JACK
(#14).
7. Slowly djust both the volume controls of the JCR-298 nd the extern l device until
you re ch comfort ble listening level.
Notes:
• If you connect the unit to the Line-Out J ck on your extern l device, you only need
to djust the volume control of your unit. If you connect to the He dphone J ck of
your extern l device, you m y need to djust both the volume controls of your
extern l device nd the unit to obt in the desir ble listening level.
• Remember to turn off the unit when you h ve finished listening. Don't forget to
switch off the power of your extern l udio device s well.
SLEEP OPERATION
The SLEEP TIMER fe ture llows you to turn off the r dio utom tic lly fter
design ted time h s el psed.
1. Select R dio Mode, Bluetooth Mode or AUX Mode nd begin pl ying music from
the selected source.
2. T p the SLEEP BUTTON (#1) to enter sleep mode.
3. Repe tedly t p the SLEEP BUTTON (#1) to select the sleep timer 120 – 90 – 60 –
45 - 30 – 15 – OFF (in minutes). The unit will pl y for the selected length of time
then turn off utom tic lly.
4. To c ncel the sleep timer, repe tedly t p the SLEEP BUTTON (#1) until the timer
shows OFF.
5. To turn the unit “Off” before the selected length of time, press nd hold the
SOURCE/STANDBY BUTTON (#2)
t ny time.

DIMMER OPERATION
In st ndby mode, press nd hold the DIMMER BUTTON (#1) repe tedly to select the
brightness settings of the displ y (Low or High).
USB CHARGING
THE JCR-298 FEATURES A FRONT MOUNTED USB CHARGING PORT
(DC 5V 2.1 A) FOR CHARGING YOUR CELL PHONE.
1. Plug the st nd rd end of the USB c ble (not included) into the USB CHARGING
PORT (#9) loc ted on the front of the unit. Plug the other end of the c ble into the
device you wish to ch rge.
2. Observe the b ttery ch rge indic tor on your device to m ke sure the ch rging
process st rts norm lly.
3. Unplug the c ble when your device is fully ch rged.
