Care and cleaning
Note: Switch off and unplug the cooker hood before carrying out any
cleaning or maintenance work.
Clean the interior and exterior casing using a cloth with water and mild
(neutral) detergent.
Do not use abrasive cleaning materials or scouring pads when cleaning the
cooker hood as this may damage the stainless steel nish.
Cleaning and replacing bafe lters
This cooker hood is supplied with bafe lters.
Bafe lters are designed to absorb grease and dust during cooking. They
should be removed and cleaned once every two months, or more often if
you regularly fry food.
If all the indicators (see page 6) light up when the cooker hood is switched
off, this indicates that the bafe lters require cleaning. Once the lters have
been cleaned, with the cooker hood switched off hold down the 10 Minute
Timer button until the indicator lights go out.
To clean the bafe lter:
1. Remove the bafe lter (A) by turning the handle towards the rear of
the cooker hood and pulling the lter downwards.
2. Wash the lter in warm soapy water or in a dishwasher.
3. Replace the bafe lter in the cooker hood by pushing the lter into the
cooker hood and turning the handle forwards until it locks in position.
The lters may discolour after a few washes. This is normal and does not
mean that they have to be replaced.
Cleaning and replacing charcoal lters
Note: This cooker hood is not supplied with charcoal lters. Charcoal lters
can be obtained from www.johnlewis.com. The model numbers are:
– for JLCHI5201, model number JLCHF01
– for JLCHI8501, model number JLCHF02
Charcoal lters are designed to absorb grease, dust and unwanted odours
during cooking. They are only required when the cooker hood is used for
recirculating (i.e. when it is not ducted out).
If all the indicators (see page 6) light up when the cooker hood is switched
off, this indicates that the charcoal lters require cleaning. Once the lters
have been replaced, with the cooker hood switched off hold down the 10
Minute Timer button until the indicator lights go out.
Non-regenerable charcoal lters must be replaced at least every six months.
To replace the charcoal lters:

Installation
The cooker hood must be mounted so that the minimum distance between
the lters and the gas or electric hob is 65cm.
The ducting system for this cooker hood must not be connected to an
existing ventilation system which is being used for any other purpose.
The exhaust for the cooker hood can be set up as either:
– ltering/recirculation (A). Air and fumes collected by the cooker hood
are cleaned by bafe and charcoal lters and vented through a hole in
the top of the cabinet.
– exhaust extraction (B). Air and fumes collected by the cooker hood are
vented to the outside air through an evauation duct in the wall or ceiling
of the room. Charcoal lters are not required for this set up.
We recommend an air exhaust tube which is the same diameter as the air
exhaust outlet hole. If a two-part air exhaust tube is used, the upper part
must be placed oustide the lower part.
If installing this cooker hood between adjoining wall cabinets, the wall
cabinets must not overhang the hob.
Before beginning installation, remove the lters (see page 7). This will make
the unit easier to handle during installation.
Installing the cooker hood
1. Cut a hole in the bottom of the cabinet (C) to hold the cooker hood.
The dimensions of the hole must be:
– for JLCHI5201, 501 mm x 265 mm
– for JLCHI8501, 835 mm x 265 mm
2. Prepare the power supply (see page 5).
3. Prepare the hole for the exhaust (see above) in the top of the cabinet
or the wall or ceiling of the room.
4. Adjust the side-springs using appropriate screws (D) according to the
thickness of the board where the cooker hood will be attached.
5. Insert the cooker hood into the hole in the cabinet until the side-springs
click.
6. Insert the screws in the cooker hood (E) to fasten it in position.
7. Insert the lters (see page 7).
