Important: Read before proceeding.
This equipment is a relatively complicated apparatus. During rigging, installation, operation,
maintenance, or service, individuals may be exposed to certain components or conditions including,
but not limited to: heavy objects, refrigerants, materials under pressure, rotating components, and
both high and low voltage. Each of these items has the potential, if misused or handled improperly,
to cause bodily injury or death. It is the obligation and responsibility of rigging, installation,
and operating or service personnel to identify and recognize these inherent hazards, protect
themselves, and proceed safely in completing their tasks. Failure to comply with any of these
requirements could result in serious damage to the equipment and the property in which it is
situated, as well as severe personal injury or death to themselves and people at the site.
This document is intended for use by owner-authorized rigging, installation, and operating
or service personnel. It is expected that these individuals possess independent training that
will enable them to perform their assigned tasks properly and safely. It is essential that, prior
to performing any task on this equipment, this individual shall have read and understood the
on-product labels, this document and any referenced materials. This individual shall also be
familiar with and comply with all applicable industry and governmental standards and regulations
pertaining to the task in question.
Important: Intended installation for this equipment should not be accessible to general
public. All locations must have controlled access so that no unauthorized persons can access
the equipment.

Wiring warning
WARNING
External wiring, unless specified as an optional connection in the manufacturer’s product line, is not
to be connected inside the control cabinet. Devices such as relays, switches, transducers and controls
and any external wiring must not be installed inside the micro panel. All wiring must be in accordance
with Johnson Controls’ published specifications and must be performed only by a qualified electrician.
Johnson Controls will not be responsible for damage/problems resulting from improper connections
to the controls or application of improper control signals. Failure to follow this warning will void the
manufacturer’s warranty and cause serious damage to property or personal injury.

Notes
1. All field wiring must be completed in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) or
with any other electrical codes that may apply to where the chiller is installed. NEC articles
and paragraphs cited are for reference only and may not be current NEC code.
2. Ground wiring is as follows:
WARNING
Proper grounding is required.
- The auxiliary panel must be grounded in accordance with the 2020 NEC, Paragraph
250.118.
- Ground wires must be copper only and sized in accordance with the NEC and with the
lug size range defined in Table . See Table 250.122 of the NEC.
CAUTION
The use of conductors larger than those defined in Table violates NEC wire bend space
requirements and delays the start-up of the chiller.
- A separate grounding conductor must be run in each conduit or for each three-phase
bundle within a cable tray. See Figure .
- Each ground wire must be connected directly between the supply transformer’s
secondary ground and the auxiliary panel ground lug.
- Conduit is not an acceptable means for grounding.
- See Table for auxiliary panel ground lug sizing.
3. Johnson Controls does not provide wiring, electrical conduit, junction boxes, fused disconnect
switches (FDS) or circuit breakers, starters (M), pushbutton stations (PB), manual-off-
automatic switch (S), flow switch (FLS), and control relays, unless otherwise specified.
4. Items marked * are provided by Johnson Controls.
5. Items marked ** are available from Johnson Controls at an additional cost.
6. Control power supply 115 V - 50 Hz/60 Hz, 3.0 KVA capacity for control center only, is supplied
by (1)-3.0 KVA control power transformer (1T) mounted inside the auxiliary panel. It is factory
wired.
7. A removable conduit plate is located on the side of the auxiliary panel enclosure. Use
the conduit plate for the installation of input power conduits. The conduit plate provides
knockouts to allow the use of a conduit cutter. The conduit plate must be removed before the
conduit openings are cut. Cut input power and ground wires to length outside of the auxiliary
panel enclosure. Use a tool that is designed to cut large diameter wire that will not cause
copper debris to be present inside the enclosure. Do not use a grinder or saw, including the
Sawzall® saw, to cut the conduit holes or the wires to length.

Figure shows the location of the removable conduit plate. Do not penetrate the auxiliary
panel, except to the conduit plate when it is removed from the auxiliary panel enclosure. No
other customer connections are provided in the auxiliary panel enclosure.
DANGER
Failure to correctly make conduit openings, cut power wire, or any method of making additional
holes in the enclosure may result in an arc flash event, damage to equipment, injury of
personnel, and replacement of equipment outside of factory warranty.
CAUTION
Failure to install the input power conduits through the conduit plate on the side of the enclosure
violates the 2020 NEC, Paragraph 312.6(B2) and Table 312.6(B), wire bend space requirements.
CAUTION
Multiple conduits must contain an equal number of wires from each phase in each conduit to
prevent overheating within the conduit in accordance with 2020 NEC, Paragraph 300-20(a). Use
copper conductors only. Do not use aluminum conductors. The use of aluminum wire may delay
the start-up of the chiller.

Note:
- Each conduit must contain a copper conductor of each phase and a copper
ground wire.
- The wire tray must contain bundles of copper wire with one conductor for reach
phase and a copper ground wire in each bundle.

8. Input power wiring conductors must have a current rating equal to or greater than the
minimum circuit ampacity for the chiller rating. See Note 12. The diameter of the wire is
determined by NEC, and the lug wire range of the circuit breaker is as noted in Table .
9. The OptiView™ Control Center has automatic control of the chilled water pump. The chilled
water pump motor starter (5M) holding coil is supplied for 115 V, 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The power
requirements for the water pump starter (5M) must be a maximum of 2 A holding and 10 A
inrush. If power requirements exceed this value, furnish the coil for line voltage, and control
relay with 115 V coil. See Note 17.
- The pump operates during chiller start up, chiller operation, shutdowns, and when in
freeze protection mode.
- For manual chilled water pump control, in applications where ambient conditions
can lead to below-freezing temperatures, do not use the manual chilled liquid pump
operation unless there is sufficient logic to operate the pump when the ambient
temperature is ≤ 36°F (2.2°C). If manual pump control can be guaranteed at operation
at ≤ 36°F (2.2°C), then connect a manual start/stop switch as shown in Form 160.88-

10. Wire #14 AWG copper for one-way distance of less than 175 ft (53.34 m). Wire #12 AWG
copper for one-way distance of more than 175 ft (53.34 m), but less than 300 ft (91.44 m).
11. Refer to the wiring diagram for YORK Control Center and Field Control Modifications, Form
160.88-PW2.
12. The branch circuit overcurrent protection device for the YVAM chiller must be a time delay
type. It must have a rating that is the standard fuse or circuit breaker size that is required to
protect the field supply wiring conductors, as outlined by the NEC.
13. The YVAM input power supply wiring ampacity is calculated using the UL60335-2-40,
101.DVB.2.1
14. The YVAM chiller is equipped with a UL-listed circuit breaker. Fast-acting semiconductor fuses,
down-stream of the circuit breaker, provide additional protection to the chiller. Ground fault
is employed on the circuit breaker and the drive controls.
15. The minimum value of line impedance is determined by the chiller's power when it is
provided from a transformer with a kVA rating equal to five times the rated power of the
chiller. The transformer is specified to have 3% impedance. The supply voltage requirements
at the auxiliary panel input terminals are defined in the following table.

16. The maximum line voltage imbalance is 5%. The voltage imbalance is calculated as the
difference between any of the three line voltages and the average of the three line voltages,
and multiplied by 100%. The maximum line voltage total harmonic distortion (THD) is 5% for
each phase, from n=2nd to n=50th harmonic, when line impedance is specified as follows:
- The minimum value of line impedance is determined by the case where the chiller's
power is provided from a transformer with a kVA rating equal to five times the rated
power of the chiller. The transformer is specified to have 3% impedance.
- The maximum value of line impedance is determined by the case where the chiller's
power is provided from a transformer with a kVA rating equal to the rated power of
the chiller. The transformer is specified to have 7% impedance.
17. Each 115 VAC field-connected inductive load, for example relay coil and motor starter coil,
must have a transient suppressor wired by others in parallel with its coil, physically located
at the coil. Spare transient suppressors are factory supplied in a bag attached to the keypad
cable clamp in the OptiView™ Control Center.
18. All switches and circuit breakers used as switches are located so that they can be operated
from a readily accessible place. They are installed in accordance with 2020 NEC, Paragraph
404.8. Switches and circuit breakers installed adjacent (close-coupled) to motors, appliances,
or other equipment that they supply can be located higher than 6 ft 7 in. (2 m) and can be
accessed by portable means as outlined in 2020 NEC, Paragraph 404.8 Exception No. 2.
19. Displacement power-factor correction capacitors: The drive provides automatic displacement
power factor correction to a minimum of 0.97 at all operating conditions.
Note: The use of power factor correction capacitors can overcorrect the power factor
and cause faulty operation or failure of the drive. A failure due to the use of power factor
correction capacitors is not covered under warranty.
20. The use of an automatic transfer switch requires a delay of 10 s between the transfer from
utility-to-generator and generator-to-utility.
Note: Failure to provide this delay can damage the drive. Repairs due to this issue are
not covered under warranty.

WARNING
Removable conduit plate where power conduit must be installed.
The plate must be removed before cutting conduit holes. Failure to remove the plate when cutting the
conduit holes requires replacement of the auxiliary panel at a cost outside of warranty.
