For the sewing machine, automatic machine and ancillary devices (hereinafter collectively referred to as
"machine"), it is inevitable to conduct sewing work near moving parts of the machine. This means that there
is always a possibility of unintentionally coming in contact with the moving parts. Operators who actually
operate the machine and maintenance personnel who are involved in maintenance and repair of the machine
are strongly recommended to carefully read to fully understand the following SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
before using maintaining the machine. The content of the SAFETY PRECAUTIONS includes items which
are not contained in the specifications of your product.
The risk indications are classified into the following three different categories to help understand the meaning
of the labels. Be sure to fully understand the following description and strictly observe the instructions.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. When it is necessa y to open the cont ol box containing elect ical pa ts, be su e to tu n the powe

Education and t aining
1. In o de to p event accident esulting f om unfamilia ity with the machine, the machine has to be used
only by the ope ato who has been t ained/educated by the employe with espect to the machine ope -
ation and how to ope ate the machine with safety to acqui e adequate knowledge and ope ation skill. To
ensu e the above, the employe has to establish an education/t aining plan fo the ope ato s and edu-
cate/t ain them befo ehand.
Items fo which the powe to the machine has to be tu ned off
Tu ning the powe off: Tu ning the powe switch off, then emoving the powe plug f om the outlet.
This applies to the following.
1. Be su e to immediately tu n the powe off if any abno mality o failu e is found o in the case of powe
failu e in o de to p otect against accident that can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.
2. To p otect against accident esulting f om ab upt sta t of the machine, be su e to ca y out the follow-
ing ope ations afte tu ning the powe off. Fo the machine inco po ating a clutch moto , in pa ticula ,
be su e to ca y out the following ope ations afte tu ning the powe off and ve ifying that the machine
stops completely.
2-1. Fo example, th eading the pa ts such as the needle, loope , sp eade etc. which have to be th ead-
ed, o changing the bobbin.
2-2. Fo example, changing o adjusting all component pa ts of the machine.
2-3. Fo example, when inspecting, epai ing o cleaning the machine o leaving the machine.
3. Be su e to emove the powe plug by holding the plug section instead of the co d section in o de to p e-
vent elect ical-shock, ea th-leakage o fi e accident.
4. Be su e to tu n the powe off wheneve the machine is left unattended between wo ks.
5. Be su e to tu n the powe off in the case of powe failu e in o de to p event accident esulting of b eak-
age of elect ical components.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN VARIOUS OPERATION STAGES
T anspo tation
1. Be su e to lift and move the machine in a safe manne taking the machine weight in conside ation. Refe
to the text of the inst uction manual fo the mass of the machine.
2. Be su e to take sufficient safety measu es to p event falling o d opping befo e lifting o moving the
machine in o de to p otect against accident that can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.
3. Once the machine has been unpacked, neve e-pack it fo t anspo tation to p otect the machine against
b eakage esulting f om unexpected accident o d opping.
Unpacking
1. Be su e to unpack the machine in the p esc ibed o de in o de to p event accident that can esult in
pe sonal inju y o death. In the case the machine is c ated, in pa ticula , be su e to ca efully check nails.
The nails have to be emoved.
2. Be su e to check the machine fo the position of its cente of g avity and take it out f om the package
ca efully in o de to p event accident that can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.
Installation
(I) Table and table stand
1. Be su e to use JUKI genuine table and table stand in o de to p event accident that can esult in pe -
sonal inju y o death. If it is inevitable to use a table and table stand which a e not JUKI genuine ones,
select the table and table stand which a e able to suppo t the machine weight and eaction fo ce du ing
ope ation.
2. If caste s a e fitted to the table stand, be su e to use the caste s with a locking mechanism and lock
them to secu e the machine du ing the ope ation, maintenance, inspection and epai in o de to p event
accident that can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.
(II) Cable and wi ing
1. Be su e to p event an ext a fo ce f om being applied to the cable du ing the use in o de to p event
elect ical-shock, ea th-leakage o fi e accident. In addition, if it is necessa y to cable nea the ope ating
section such as the V-belt, be su e to p ovide a space of 30mm o mo e between the ope ating section
and the cable.
2. Be su e to avoid sta bu st connection in o de to p event elect ical-shock, ea th-leakage o fi e accident.
3. Be su e to secu ely connect the connecto s in o de to p event elect ical-shock, ea th-leakage o fi e
accident. In addition, be su e to emove the connecto while holding its connecto section.
(III) G ounding
1. Be su e to have an elect ical expe t install an app op iate powe plug in o de to p event accident caused
by ea th-leakage o dielect ic st ength voltage fault. In addition, be su e to connect the powe plug to the
g ounded outlet without exceptions.
2. Be su e to g ound the ea th cable in o de to p event accident caused by ea th leakage.
(IV) Moto
1. Be su e to use the specified ated moto (JUKI genuine p oduct) in o de to p event accident caused by
bu nout.
2. If a comme cially available clutch moto is used with the machine, be su e to select one with an entan-
glement p eventative pulley cove in o de to p otect against being entangled by the V-belt.

1. Be su e to make su e that the connecto s and cables a e f ee f om damage, d opout and looseness be-
fo e tu ning the powe on in o de to p event accident esulting in pe sonal inju y o death.
2. Neve put you hand into the moving sections of the machine in o de to p event accident that can esult
in pe sonal inju y o death.
In addition, check to be su e that the di ection of otation of the pulley ag ees with the a ow shown on
pulley.
3. If the table stand with caste s is used, be su e to secu e the table stand by locking the caste s o with
adjuste s, if p ovided, in o de to p otect against accident caused by ab upt sta t of the machine.
Du ing ope ation
1. Be su e not to put you finge s, hai o clothing close to the moving sections such as the handwheel,
hand pulley and moto o place something nea those sections while the machine is in ope ation in o de
to p event accident caused by entanglement that can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.
2. Be su e not to place you finge s nea the su ound a ea of the needle o inside the th ead take-up leve
cove when tu ning the powe on o while the machine is in ope ation in o de to p event accident that
can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.
3. The machine uns at a high speed. Neve b ing you hands nea the moving sections such as loope ,
sp eade , needle ba , hook and cloth t imming knife du ing ope ation in o de to p otect you hands
against inju y. In addition, be su e to tu n the powe off and check to be su e that the machine complete-
ly stops befo e changing the th ead.
4. Be ca eful not to allow you finge s o any othe pa ts of you body to be caught between the machine
and table when emoving the machine f om o eplacing it on the table in o de to p event accident that
can esult in pe sonal inju y o death.

5. Be su e to tu n the powe off and check to be su e that the machine and moto completely stop befo e e-
moving the belt cove and V-belt in o de to p event accident caused by ab upt sta t of the machine o moto .
6. If a se vomoto is used with the machine, the moto does not p oduce noise while the machine is at est.
Be su e not to fo get to tu n the powe off in o de to p event accident caused by ab upt sta t of the moto .
7. Neve use the machine with the cooling opening of the moto powe box shielded in o de to p event fi e
accident by ove heat.
Lub ication
1. Be su e to use JUKI genuine oil and JUKI genuine g ease to the pa ts to be lub icated.
2. If the oil adhe es to you eye o body, be su e to immediately wash it off in o de to p event inflamma-
tion o i itation.
3. If the oil is swallowed unintentionally, be su e to immediately consult a medical docto in o de to p e-
vent dia hea o vomiting.
Maintenance
1. In p evention of accident caused by unfamilia ity with the machine, epai and adjustment has to be
ca ied out by a se vice technician who is tho oughly familia with the machine within the scope defined
in the inst uction manual. Be su e to use JUKI genuine pa ts when eplacing any of the machine pa ts.
JUKI assumes no esponsibility fo any accident caused by imp ope epai o adjustment o the use of
any pa ts othe than JUKI genuine one.
2, In p evention of accident caused by unfamilia ity with the machine o elect ical-shock accident, be su e
to ask an elect ical technician of you company o JUKI o dist ibuto in you a ea fo epai and mainte-
nance (including wi ing) of elect ical components.
3. When ca ying out epai o maintenance of the machine which uses ai -d iven pa ts such as an ai cyl-
inde , be su e to emove the ai supply pipe to expel ai emaining in the machine befo ehand, in o de to
p event accident caused by ab upt sta t of the ai -d iven pa ts.
4. Be su e to check that sc ews and nuts a e f ee f om looseness afte completion of epai , adjustment
and pa ts eplacement.
5. Be su e to pe iodically clean up the machine du ing its du ation of use. Be su e to tu n the powe off
and ve ify that the machine and moto stop completely befo e cleaning the machine in o de to p event
accident caused by ab upt sta t of the machine o moto .
6. Be su e to tu n the powe off and ve ify that the machine and moto stop completely befo e ca ying out
maintenance, inspection o epai of the machine. (Fo the machine with a clutch moto , the moto will
keep unning fo a while by ine tia even afte tu ning the powe off. So, be ca eful.)
7. If the machine cannot be no mally ope ated afte epai o adjustment, immediately stop ope ation and
contact JUKI o the dist ibuto in you a ea fo epai in o de to p event accident that can esult in pe -
sonal inju y o death.
8. If the fuse has blown, be su e to tu n the powe off and eliminate the cause of blowing of the fuse and
eplace the blown fuse with a new one in o de to p event accident that can esult in pe sonal inju y o
death.
9. Be su e to pe iodically clean up the ai vent of the fan and inspect the a ea a ound the wi ing in o de to
p event fi e accident of the moto .
Ope ating envi onment
1. Be su e to use the machine unde the envi onment which is not affected by st ong noise sou ce (elect o-
magnetic waves) such as a high-f equency welde in o de to p event accident caused by malfunction of
the machine.
2. Neve ope ate the machine in any place whe e the voltage fluctuates by mo e than “ ated voltage ± 10%”
in o de to p event accident caused by malfunction of the machine.
3. Be su e to ve ify that the ai -d iven device such as an ai cylinde ope ates at the specified ai p essu e
befo e using it in o de to p event accident caused by malfunction of the machine.
4. To use the machine with safety, be su e to use it unde the envi onment which satisfies the following
conditions:
Ambient tempe atu e du ing ope ation 5°C to 35°C
Relative humidity du ing ope ation 35 % to 85 %
5. Dew condensation can occu if b inging the machine suddenly f om a cold envi onment to a wa m one.
So, be su e to tu n the powe on afte having waited fo a sufficient pe iod of time until the e is no sign
of wate d oplet in o de to p event accident caused by b eakage o malfunction of the elect ical compo-
nents.
6. Be su e to stop ope ation when lightning flashes fo the sake of safety and emove the powe plug in
o de to p event accident caused by b eakage o malfunction of the elect ical components.
7. Depending on the adio wave signal condition, the machine may gene ate noise in the TV o adio. If this
occu s, use the TV o adio with kept well away f om the machine.
8. In o de to ensu e the wo k envi onment, local laws and egulations in the count y whe e the sewing
machine is installed shall be followed.
In the case the noise cont ol is necessa y, an ea p otecto o othe p otective gea should be wo n ac-
co ding to the applicable laws and egulations.
9. Disposal of p oducts and packages and t eatment of used lub icating oil should be ca ied out p ope ly
acco ding to the elevant laws of the count y in which the sewing machine is used.

BEFORE OPERATION
FOR SAFE OPERATION
1. To avoid electrical shock hazards, neither o en the cover of the electrical box for the motor
nor touch the com onents mounted inside the electrical box.
1. To avoid ersonal injury, never o erate the machine with any of the belt cover, finger guard or
safety devices removed.
2. To revent ossible ersonal injuries caused by being caught in the machine, kee your fin-
gers, head and clothes away from the handwheel, V belt and the motor while the machine is
o eration. In addition, lace nothing around them.
3. To avoid ersonal injury, never ut your hand under the needle when you turn “ON” the ow-
er switch or o erate the machine.
4. To avoid ersonal injury, never ut your fingers into the thread take-u cover while the ma-
chine is in o eration.
5. The hook rotates at a high s eed while the machine is in o eration. To revent ossible inju-
ry to hands, be sure to kee your hands away from the vicinity of the hook during o eration.
In addition, be sure to turn OFF the ower to the machine when re lacing the bobbin.
6. To avoid ossible ersonal injuries, be careful not to allow your fingers in the machine when
tilting/raising the machine head.
7. To avoid ossible accidents because of abru t start of the machine, turn OFF the ower to
the machine when tilting the machine head or removing the belt cover and the V belt.
8. If your machine is equi ed with a servo-motor, the motor does not roduce noise while the
machine is at rest. To avoid ossible accidents due to abru t start of the machine, be sure to
turn OFF the ower to the machine.
9. To avoid electrical shock hazards, never o erate the sewing machine with the ground wire for
the ower su ly removed.
10. To revent ossible accidents because of electric shock or damaged electrical com onent(s),
turn OFF the ower switch in rior to the connection/disconnection of the ower lug.
11. Be sure to confirm that the machine head su ort bar is ro erly set in lace before tilting
the machine head.
12. This roduct is a recision instrument, and be very careful not to s lash water or oil on it, or
CAUTION :
To avoid malfunction and damage of the machine, confirm the following.
• Before you ut the machine into o eration for the first time after the set-u , clean it thoroughly.
• Remove all dust gathering during trans ortation and oil it well.
• Confirm that the ower lug has been ro erly connected to the ower su ly.
• Confirm that the voltage has been ro erly set.
• Never use the machine in the state where the voltage ty e is different from the designated one.
• The direction of rotation of the sewing machine is counterclockwise as observed from the handwheel side.
Be careful not to rotate it in reverse direction.
• For the first month, run the machine at a s eed of 1,800sti/min or less.

(1) Installing the under cover
1) The under cover should rest on the four corners of the machine table groove.
2) Two rubber seats ➊ for su orting the head ortion on the o erator side are fixed on the extended
ortion of the table by hitting the nail ➋ , and the other two rubber cushion seats ➌ on the hinge side
are fixed by using a rubber-based adhesive. Then, oil an ➍ is laced.
3) Fit hinge ➎ into the o ening in the machine bed, and fit the machine head to table rubber hinge ➏
before lacing the machine head on cushions ➐ on the four corners.

(Installing rocedure)
1) Put the V belt on the ulley of the
sewing machine.
2) Attach belt cover su ort ➊ on the
arm.
3) Attach belt cover ➋ on the arm and
the su ort.
4) Place bobbin winder ➌ in the belt cover,
and osition it so that it does not con-
tact the machine arm or the belt cover
before fixing it with wooden screws.
5) Attach the ulley which is held by
hand with screws.

1) Assemble the thread stand unit, and insert it in
the hole in the machine table.
2) Tighten locknut ➊ to fix the thread stand.
3) For ceiling wiring, ass the ower cord through

WARNING :
To avoid ossible ersonal injury due to abru t start of the machine, turn off the ower to the machine
and check to be sure that the motor has totally sto ed rotating in rior. The machine is rotating at high
s eed. To avoid ossible ersonal injury, be very careful when adjusting the amount of oil.

(1) Info mation on lub ication
1) Fill oil pan ➊ with JUKI Machine Oil No. 7 up to HIGH mark .
2) When the oil level lowers below LOW mark , refill the oil pan with the specified oil.
3) Apply an adequate amount of oil to the points marked with the arrows of the face plate components. (Be
sure to apply an adequate amount of oil once a day.)
Remove ubbe plug ➌ to lub icate the uppe feed cam, and fill the felt po tion in the figu e
with oil.
4) When you operate the machine after lubrication, you will see splashing oil through oil sight window ➋ if
the lubrication is adequate.
5) Note that the amount of the splashing oil is unrelated to the amount of the lubricating oil.
1. When the sewing machine is used at low speed (1,000 sti/min o less), ope ate the sewing

(2) Adjusting the amount of oil supplied
to the face plate parts
1) Loosen setscrew ➊ in the oil shield late, and
remove oil shield late ➋.
2) Adjust the amount of oil su lied to the thread
take-u and needle bar crank ➌ by turning adjust
in ➍.
3) The adjust in has been attached so that its
engraved marker dot is brought to the osition
as shown in the figure at the time of delivery. Turn
the in in direction to increase the amount of
oil, or in direction to decrease it.
The amount of oil is maximized by turning the
in in direction by 90 degrees of an angle,
or minimized by turning it in direction by the
same degrees of an angle. Adjust the in osition
so that an adequate amount of oil is su lied.
Amount of oil as shown in Fig.1 is the
factory-adjusted amount of oil at the
time of delivery. Check the amount of oil
before using the sewing machine, and
use the sewing machine after adjusting
so that the amount of oil is adequate as
shown in Fig.1.
4) Make the sewing machine run idle for a roxi-
mately 30 seconds after adjusting the amount
of oil with the adjust in. Then, insert a sheet of
a er for checking the amount of oil (oil s ots)
into location to measure the amount of oil for
10 seconds. (The sewing s eed during idling be-
fore the oil-amount measurement and during the
measurement should be 2,000 sti/min.)

(3) Adjusting the amount of oil in the hook
1) Turning the oil amount adjustment screw at-
tached on the hook driving shaft front bushing in
the “+” direction (in direction ) will increase the
amount of oil (oil s ots) in the hook, or in the “–”
direction (in direction ) will decrease it. Adjust
so that the amount of oil is adequate.
2) After the amount of oil in the hook has been
ro erly adjusted with the oil amount adjustment
screw, make the sewing machine run idle for a -
roximately 30 seconds, and insert a sheet of a-
er for confirming the oil amount (oil s ots) under
the hook for 5 seconds to measure the amount of
oil in the hook.

6. ATTACHIN THE NEEDLE
The standard needle is a DB x 17 #21.
1) Turn the handwheel to move the needle bar u to
its highest osition.
2) Loosen needle clam ing screw ➋, and hold
needle ➊ so that long groove in needle ➊
faces exactly to the left.
3) Insert the needle into the needle bar until it will go
no further. Securely tighten the needle clam ing
screw.

1) Route the thread in the order of , , and , and then wind it round the bobbin several times.
2) Set bobbin resser ➊ down to make the winder come in contact with the belt.
3) Adjust adjustment screw ➋ of the amount of bobbin thread to be wound round the bobbin so that the
bobbin is wound with thread about 80%. Turn the adjustment screw ➋ clockwise to increase the bob-
bin thread amount or counterclockwise to decrease it.
4) If thread is wound unevenly, move winder tension adjust base ➌ to the right or left until it is correctly
ositioned.
5) The moment the bobbin has been wound u , the bobbin resser is released, and the bobbin winder
will sto automatically.
When making the sewing machine run idle, remove the bobbin case and the bobbin since there
is the ossibility that thread is entangled in the hook.
6) If thread is a t to come off from , use either of the methods below to manage it.

1) Removing the bobbin case
Raise the bobbin case latch to remove the bobbin case.
2) Threading the bobbin case
1. Pass the thread through threading slit ➊ in the bobbin case, and route it under tension s ring ➋.
2. Hold the latch of the bobbin case, and set the bobbin case into the hook.
Place the bobbin in the bobbin case taking care of the winding direction of the thread.
(The bobbin should turn in the direction of arrow when the thread is ulled in the direction

Feed dog ➌ is factory-adjusted to jut out 1.2 mm from the surface of throat late ➋.
When the feed dog height needs to be adjusted according to the sewing s ecifications or after the feed
dog is re laced, do as follows :
1. Loosen screw ➊.
2. Move the feed dog u or down to erform adjustment, then securely tighten the screw.
* When sewing an extra heavy-weight material or the material which has many multi-layered arts, in-
creasing the feed dog height is effective to hel achieve consistent material feed.
If uckering occurs when sewing a light-weight material, decreasing the feed dog height is effective to
hel revent it.
When increasing the feed dog height, take care not to allow the feed dog to come in contact
with the throat late.
