Before choosing any mounting and/or flashing system be sure to properly inspect and qualify the roof
type and condition for the appropriate use of structural attachment and waterproofing products. K2
Systems provides many roof attachment products though it is solely the responsibility of the installer to
choose compatible, code compliant products for the roofing and racking systems in use.

Important Note
The Splice Foot X & XL can be installed as rafter attached or deck attached. Rafter attached requires that
two screws be installed into the rafters using the center holes on the Splice Foot base. Deck attached
requires that four screws be installed into all four corners of the Splice Foot base.

!Locate the rafter and clean roofing surface for mount placement. Peel back protective paper from butyl, and stick
down mount on a single shingle course with the two center holes lining up over the rafter. Position all mounts in
the same direction with the long side towards the ridge. Drive provided lag screws into the rafter until the conical
washer stops rotating, providing a positive seal. Do not over torque.

!For deck attachments, follow steps in 2a, but only use Splice Foot screws in the four corners of the mount.
When possible always attach mounts to the rafter and only use deck attached as a secondary option when
rafters are not within mounting zones for the array. Follow K2 engineered calculations and span charts for deck
attachments.
When deck attaching check for positive engagement into plywood and avoid plywood seams.

!Apply appropriate sealant to top and each side edge of mount, covering exposed butyl. No need to
apply to the bottom of mount. If the mount falls on top of a shingle seam, fill and seal the seam with a
compatible roof sealant. If a seam comes within 2" of the lag screw, fill the seam with roof sealant.

!Position and install rail on back side of Splice Foot towards the ridge, as shown in the image. Insert only one
T-Bolt through one Splice Foot slot and into side channel of CrossRail. Turn the T-Bolt clockwise ensuring that
the mark at the end of the shaft is vertical, indicating proper alignment. Tighten to 25.8 ft-lbs (35 Nm).

!When connecting two rails to the Splice Foot, insert two T-Bolts through the Splice Foot slots and into side
channel of CrossRail. Turn the T-Bolts clockwise ensuring that the mark at the end of the shaft is vertical,
indicating proper alignment. Leave a 5/8" gap between rails in the center of the Splice Foot. Tighten to 25.8 ft-
lbs (35 Nm).
Note: Rail connector function for Splice Foot is only compatible with mill rail.
