1.1WelcometoSystem6000
System6000isabattery‐operatedguestroomdoor‐lockingsystemdesignedtoofferthe
highestpossiblelevelofsecuritytoaproperty.
Therearetwotypesoflocksyoucanchoosefrom;
Magneticreaderlock–Amagneticallyencodedkeycardisprovidedtoeachguestuponcheck‐in.
RFIDLock–AguestisprovidedaRFIDkeycardorFOBtopresenttothelocksuponcheck‐in.
Whenthiskeycardisusedatthelock,acircuitboardwithinthelockreadsthecodeand
releasesthelockingmechanism,allowingtheguesttodepressthehandleandentertheroom.
Whenanewkeycardismadeforasubsequentguest,andthiskeycardisusedatthelock,the
previouslyissuedkeycardwillnolongerbevalid.Thisfeaturehastheeffectofchanginglock
andcombinationwitheachnewguestthatoccupiesaroom.
Frominsidetheroom,thelockprovidesadeadboltorprivacybutton,helpingtoensureboth
privacyandsecurity.
1.2System6000Components
ThebasicsystemincludestheSystem6000,keycardencoder,andtheSAFLOKelectronicdoor
locksandkeycards.AnEmergencyLockPowerSupply(ELPS)andLockProgrammerand
Interrogator(LPI)InterfaceProbeandahandheldLPIDevicearealsoincluded.Multiplekeycard
encodersmaybepurchasedforasmanycheck‐instationsasrequired.
TheSystem6000isloadedontothefront‐deskcomputer(s).Theprogramisusedtogenerate
keycard‐codinginformationandtokeeptrackoftheroomnumbersandkeyassignments,user
accesscodes,keycombinations,andahistoryofallsystemtransactions.Thecomputer(s)are
connecteddirectlytokeyencodingstationsforperformingthekey‐makingtransactions.
AnLPI(LockProgramming/Interrogating)Deviceisalsorequired.TheLPIDevicealsohaslimited
memorycapacity,andisusedsolelyforprogrammingandinterrogatinglocks.Lockcode
informationisprovidedtotheLPIDevicebythemaincomputer.
KeycardEncodingStations
TheKeycardEncoderreceivesthekeycardencodinginformationfromthemaincomputeror
terminal.Whenakeycardisinserted/swipedintotheencoder,theinformationisdigitally
encodedontothemagneticstripormemorychiplocatedonthekeycard.
Forradiofrequencyidentification(RFIDlocks),theRFIDcredentialisplacedontheencoder,
andtheinformationisencodedviaradiowaves.

SeverallockmodelsareavailabletofunctionwithSystem6000.Saflokhastwotypesoflocks
whichusedifferentkeymedia.ThefirsttypeisaMagneticreaderlockthatfunctionsin
conjunctionwithMagstripekeys.ThesecondlocktypeisRFIDlocksthatuseMifareRFIDkeys
andFOB’s.
Thelockscontainacircuitboard,whichisconnectedtoabatterypack.Whenaproperly
encodedkeycardisusedatthelock,thecircuitboardreadsthecodeonthekeycardandsends
anelectronicsignaltoreleasethelockingmechanism.Theguestthenhasapproximately5‐6
secondstoturnthelockhandleandentertheroom.Ifthelockhandleisnotturnedwithinthe
allottedtime,thelockingmechanismwillautomaticallyreturntothelockedposition.Theguest
willthenreinsertthemagstripekeycardorpresenttheRFIDkeytogainaccesstotheroom.
MostSAFLOKlocksfeaturea1”steeldeadboltandathrowdeadlockinglatchboltwithanti‐
theftfeature.Whenthehandleisturnedfrominsidetheroom,apanicfeatureretractsboth
thelatchandthedeadbolt.WiththeautomaticdeadboltADB®feature,thelockshavean
automaticdeadboltfeaturethatprojectsa1”deadbolteachtimethedoorisreturnedtothe
closedposition,providingcontinuousdeadboltlatchingsecurity.Aprivacybuttonorswitchcan
beactivatedfrominsidetheroom,preventingpropertypersonnelfromenteringtheroom,
exceptinemergencies.
Keycards
Thekeycardisthemessengertothelock,andprovidesthelockwiththelockcoding
information.Thekeycardcarriesthecodeinformationprovidedbythecomputerandkeycard
encoder.Whenaproperlyencodedkeycardisinsertedorpresentedtothelockandremoved,
thelockcircuitboardupdatesthecodeinformationinitsmemory,renderingpreviouslyissued
keycardsinvalid.
EmergencyLockPowerSupply(ELPS)
TheEmergencyLockPowerSupplyisusedtorestorebatterypowertoalockthathas
insufficientinternalbatterypower.Wheninsertedintothelock,andinsertingacutvalid
keycard,alockwithadeadbatterycanbeactivated.Thiscapabilityeliminatestheneedto
forciblyremovealockfromadoorbecauseithaslostpower.Oncethedoorhasbeenopened,
thebatteriescanbereplaced.
LockProgrammerandInterrogator(LPI)InterfaceProbe/ELPSpoweroverride
TheLockProgrammerandInterrogatorInterfaceProbeservesasaninterfacebetweentheLPI
Deviceandthelock.Theprobecanbeusedtoprogramlocksortointerrogatealockwhenitis
necessarytoobtainahistoryofthekeycardsthatwereusedtoaccessthelock.Thesmartcard
probealsoallowsanemergencyoverrideoptionwhenadeadbatteryconditionoccursona
lock.Oncethedoorhasbeenopened,thebatteriescanbereplaced.

YoucanusetheinstallationCD,oryoumaycopytheinstallation
CDtotheSaflokserveroranyothercomputeronthenetwork.
1. IfyouareusingtheCD,simplyinsertitintothecomputer
youwishtoinstallthesoftwareonandtheinstallation
processwillbeginautomatically.*Ifinstallingoverthe
network,browsetothefolderwherethesoftwareis
located,anddouble‐clickPgmStup3FB2_1.exe,andthe
installationprocesswillbegin.
2. Thesetupprogramwillinformyouifthereareany
databaseenginescurrentlyinstalledandrunning,
andifso,itwillstopthemautomatically.
3. ClickNexttocontinue.

encoders.

ofthedatabaseatSpecifiedintervals.
oSaflokSecureShiftserverisonlyneededatpropertiesthathaveSecureShift,butdonothavethePMS
disk.
Note:ifIRSisinstalledfromthePMSdisk,SecureShiftserverisnotneeded.
10. Thedefaultdatabasefolderis:

Ifyouwouldliketochangethepath,click
theBrowsebuttonandselectthefolder
tostorethedatabasefilesin.Ifyouare
installingMessenger,checktheboxfor

InstallationType,ProgramType,
andTargetDirectories.ClickNext
tocontinue.
12. SelecttheLogonTypeforthe
Schedulerservice.Inmostcases,you
willselectLocalSystem.Youwillonly
selectNetworkAccountifthe
Schedulerwillbebackingupto
anothercomputeronthenetwork.In
thatcase,selecttheaccountyouwill
usefromthelistandenterthe
password.
13. Aftertheinstallprocessiscomplete,
clickOKtorebootthecomputer.

programwillstart
automatically.Itwill
promptyoutosetalinkto
thedatabasefiles.Click

15. BrowsetoC:\Program

ClickonSaflokDataV2.GDB,
andclickOpen.
Softwareinstallationisnowcomplete.FollowtheinstructionsbelowtoconfiguretheCRS,Scheduler

Next,youwillneedtoconfiguretheSaflokScheduler.Thisprogramcreatesabackupofthedatabase
ataspecifiedtimeeachday.Bydefault,thistimeis3:00AM.Italsocreatesanarchiveofthetransaction
logfiletokeepitmanageable.Thisisperformedatthesametimeasthebackup.
2.3.1SchedulerArchiveConfiguration
1. Tobegin,double‐clicktheSchedulerIconfromthesystemtray.
2. ClickFile‐Logonandlogonusingtheusername
andpassword,thenclickOK.
3. ClickArchiveunderthe
Taskssection.OntheTask
Performtab,set“Perform
thistask:”toDaily.Setthe
“Archive”daysoftheweek
toSundayandWednesday.

ThresholdandArchiveMonthCountforeach
databaseandclickApply.
oArchiverecordthresholdisoneofthecriteriaSchedulerusestodetermineifanArchiveisnecessary.
Thedefaultsettingis20000.Inthiscase,whenSchedulerscanstheTransactionLogfileandithas
morethan20000transactionrecords,itwillalsochecktheArchiveMonthCounttoseeifitshould
createanarchive.Iftherearelessthan20000recordsinthedatabase,itwillnotperformanarchive.
oArchiveMonthCountisthenumberofmonthsthatyouwanttokeepinthecurrentlogfile;anything
olderthanthissettingwillgetarchived.Thedefaultsettingis3(only1,2,or3monthsselected).In
thiscase,ifthereareover20000transactionrecordsandtheyareolderthan3months,Schedulerwill
createanarchivefile.
oIfthereare20000records,andtheyareallunder3monthsold,anarchivewillnotbecreated.
Similarly,iftherecordsareolderthan3monthsbuttherearefewerthan20000,anarchivewillnot
becreated.
oTherecommendedsettingsfortheMessengerdatabaseare10000recordsand1Month.Asthereare
typicallymanyhundredsorthousandsofrecordsperdaythatarestoredintheMessenger
transactionlogfile(Saflokmsgrlogv2.gdb).
oOnceSchedulerhasdeterminedthatanarchiveneedstobeperformed,itwillarchivetherecordsfrom
theSafloklogv2.gdbfile,andputthemintoanARC_SAFLOKLOG####.gdbfile.
oOnceanarchivefilehasbeencreated,andatransactionhistoryreportisrunthatspansintothe
archivedrecords,youwillget2ormoredifferentreports,illustratedbelow.Thetopreportwouldbe
fromtheCurrentdatabase,andthesecondreportisfromthearchive.

Next,wewillconfigurethe
Backupsettings.
1. Clickonthe“Backup”entryunderthe
“Tasks”field.Then,click“Daily”
under“Performthistask:”
oThissettingwillconfigurethebackuptasktoruneveryday,atthetimespecifiedinthe“Starttime”
field.Bydefault,thisis3:00AM.Abackupusuallytakesaround15‐20minutes.Keyscannotbemade
duringthistime.Chooseatimethatwillinterferewiththeproperty’soperationstheleast.Checkallof
theboxesforeachdayoftheweek,andalsochecktheboxesfor“Include/Sweep6000”.TheSweep
performsextramaintenanceandcleanuponthedatabase.
2. Next,clickthe“TaskData”tab.In
the“BackupDirectory”field,
selectwhereyouwantthe
databasebackupstobestored.
3. Clickbrowseandselectthe
folder/driveyouwishtostore
thebackupsin.
Thebestpracticeistobackupto
anexternallocation,suchasa
networkdriveorUSBflashdrive.
Ifneitherisavailable,thenyou
mustcreateafolderonthelocal
harddisktostorethebackups.
oBydefault,theBackupCountissetto7.Thisdeterminesthenumberofbackupsthatarestoredinthe
BackupDirectory.Itisrecommendedtoleavethissettingonthedefault.Whenthenumberofbackups
reachestheBackupCountnumber,thenewestbackupwillreplacetheoldestbackup.
4. Whenfinished,clickApplytosavethesettings.TheSchedulerisnowconfiguredproperly.
