MULTICAL®603isanall‐roundcalculator,suitableasheatmeter,coolingmeterorcombinedheat/coolingmeter
togetherwith1or2flowsensorsand2or3temperaturesensors.Themeterisintendedforenergymeasurementin
almostalltypesofthermalinstallationswherewaterisusedastheenergy‐conveyingmedium.
MULTICAL®603can,inadditiontoheatandcoolingmeasurement,beusedforleakagemonitoring,permanent
performancemonitoring,aspowerandflowlimiterwithvalvecontrolaswellasforenergymeasurementinbothopen
andclosedsystems.
AccordingtoEN1434andMID,MULTICAL®603canbedesignatedasa“calculator”withseparatetypeapprovaland
verification,anditcanbedeliveredeitherasaseparatecalculatororasacompletemeter,withmountedtemperature
sensorsandflowsensorsaccordingtocustomerrequirements.
TheMULTICAL®603calculatortopcanbeseparatedfromtheconnectionbasewithoutusingtoolswhenthe
installationsealsarebroken.Thisprovidesfreeaccesstotheinstallationoftheflowsensor,temperaturesensors,
powersupply/batteryandcommunicationmodules.
Thecalculatortopisfactory‐sealedandmayonlybeopenedbyauthorisedmeterlaboratories.Ifthefactorysealis
broken,thefactoryguaranteenolongerapplies.
MULTICAL®603has2flowsensorinputsthatcanbeusedforbothelectronicandmechanicalflowsensors.Thepulse
figurecabbeprogrammedfrom0.001to300pulses/liter,andthecalculatorcanbeprogrammedtoallnominalflow
sensorsizesfrom0.6to15,000m3/h.Thecalculatorcanbedeliveredwithbothgalvanicallyconnectedandseparated
flowsensorinputs.
ThetemperaturemeasurementsininletandoutletareperformedwithaccuratelypairedPt500orPt100sensor
accordingtoEN60751andEN1434.MULTICAL®603normallycomeswithaPt500sensorpair,e.g.shortdirectsensors
accordingtoEN1434‐2orø5.8mmpocketsensors,whichfitKamstrupsensorpocketsinstainlesssteel.MULTICAL®
603canalsobedeliveredwith4‐wiretemperaturesensorinputsthatareespeciallysuitableforinstallationswithlong
temperaturesensorcables.
Accumulatedheatenergyand/orcoolingenergycanbedisplayedinkWh,MWh,GJorGcal,allwithsevenoreight
significantdigitsplusmeasuringunit.Thedisplayhasbeenspeciallydesignedwithaviewtoobtaininglonglifetime
andsharpcontrastinawidetemperaturerange.Furthermore,MULTICAL®603canbedeliveredinavariantwith
backlitdisplay(type603‐F).
Otherreadingoptionsare:accumulatedwaterconsumption,operatinghourcounter,errorhourcounter,current
temperaturemeasurements,currentflowandpowerreadings.Furthermore,MULTICAL®603canbeconfiguredto
displaymonthlyandyearlyloggings,targetdatedata,max/min.flow,max/min.power,informationcode,currentdate
aswellasuser‐definedtariffing.
MULTICAL®603ispoweredbyaninternalD‐celllithiumbatterywithalifespanupto16yearsora2xAlithiumpacket
withalifespanofupto9years.Alternatively,themetercanbemainssupplied,eitherby24VACor230VAC.
Inadditiontotheenergymeter’sowndata,MULTICAL®603candisplaytheaccumulatedconsumptionsoftwoextra
watermeters,e.g.coldandhotwatermeters,whichsupplyapulsesignaltoMULTICAL®603viareed‐switchor
electronicoutput.Thecontactsignalsfromtheextrawatermetersareconnectedviathecommunicationmodules.
Amultipleplugplacedbehindthesealisusedinconnectionwithcalibrationandadjustmentduringverificationaswell
asinconnectionwithcommunicationmodules.MULTICAL®603isavailablewith1or2communicationmodulesfor
WirelessM‐Bus,M‐BusandRS232.Themodulesareavailablewitheitherpulseinputsorpulseoutputs.Furthermore,
themetercanbedeliveredwithintegratedM‐Bus,independentofthemodules.
IndesigningMULTICAL®603,greatimportancehasbeenattachedtoflexibilitythroughprogrammablefunctionsand
plug‐inmodules(seeparagraphs3.2and11)inordertosecureoptimumuseinawiderangeofapplications.In
addition,theconstructionmakesitpossibletoupdatepreviouslyinstalledMULTICAL®603viathePC‐program
METERTOOLHCW.
