2Pre-installation
• The CEPH upgrade kit consists of two packages, the cephalometric unit package and the upgrade
package. The upgrade package consists of mechanical parts needed for the upgrade, CEPH sensor
covers, installation screws, installation instructions, installation template, device manuals and
quality control tools (optional).
• This upgrade kit is applicable only to CEPH upgrade -ready devices, from serial number Kx1801417
onwards.
• CEPH upgrade kit requires device firmware FW 2.3 or newer.
• The upgrade kit is supplied with all required screws and EMC clamps. Always use the new screws
and clamps during the installation.
• The installation of CEPH upgrade kit varies between different product configurations.
• Make sure that the installation area has sufficient space for the CEPH arm and all CEPH movements.
Use the supplied installation template as a guide.
• CEPH upgrade may require you to move the Column in a different location. To move the column, the
carriage must be removed from the column. This task requires two persons to do.
• Drive the device down to a suitable and comfortable installation height before starting the
installation.
• Read all other pre-installation requirements on the OP 3D Installation manual, supplied with the
upgrade kit.
• The CEPH upgrade kit contains the CEPH arm and new linear movement mechanism and rotating
movement motor for the main device. The parts that need to be installed during the CEPH upgrade
depend on the device configuration and generation. See the table below to identify which parts
need to be installed.

3.1Firmware update
1. Download the firmware distribution package.
NOTICE! The package is named in format OP3D-FW_x_x_x_216403-D519721-y.zip where the
x_x_x indicates the firmware version.
2. Extract the firmware distribution package to the hard drive of the workstation connected to the
device.
3. Ensure that the workstation software and drivers are up to date so that they meet the
requirement of the firmware release.
NOTICE! Contact your local KaVo Tech Support to get the latest compatibility information.
4. Update the workstation SW, drivers and KaVo driver, if needed.
5. Go to device settings on the GUI.
6. Select Service mode menu and enter PIN code 1917.
7. Select the Service menu from the menu list.
8. Click Select File button under Firmware update and select the firmware file to be loaded. The
firmware file format is file_name.tar.gz.
9. Click Start Update.
10. Wait for the update to finish.
11. Close the GUI to disconnect the device from the imaging software.
12. Reconnect the device by using the imaging software to finalize the update.
NOTICE! After firmware update, the device reminds you to check that the installed KaVo
driver is compatible with the updated firmware version. Compatibility can be seen in
firmware and driver release letters.

3.2Drive the device to packing position
Drive the device to packing position.
1. Go to device settings on the GUI.
2. Select Service mode menu and enter PIN code 0612.
3. GUI: Select Service menu.
4. Select Drive to packing position.
5. Press and hold down the exposure switch to drive the unit to the correct height.
6. Power the device off.
3.3Isolate the device from mains
Disconnect the mains power cable and other auxiliary connectors connected to the device carriage.
1. Power off the device.
2. Remove the screw on the bottom of the carriage back plate and remove the back plate.

3. Remove the back panel cover screw and lift the cover off.
4. Disconnect all cables from the device carriage.

Remove all shown device covers.
Covers to be removed (in order):
1. Lower shelf tray
2. Patient handles
3. Mirror
4. Carriage side covers
5. Upper shelf covers
6. PAN/3D tubehead front cover with the
tubehead plate
7. PAN/3D tubehead back cover
8. Rotating unit side covers
9. Sensor collars and sensor covers *
* Sensor collars and covers are different between 3D and PAN only devices
3.4.1Removing the lower shelf tray
1. Insert a screwdriver or similar into the gap between the lower shelf tray and the carriage and push
onto the dents inside cover. Do this on both sides of the lower shelf tray to loosen the tray.
2. Turn the protruding parts of the lower shelf tray slightly and remove the lower shelf tray.

3.4.2Removing the patient handle
Required tools: Hex key 6mm
1. Remove the screws (4 pcs) under the patient handle.
2. Remove the handle.
3.4.3Removing the mirror
1. Open the mirror.
2. Lift the mirror slightly so that the guiding pins (4 pcs) unlock from the keyholes on the mirror plate.
3. Remove the mirror from its guiding pins by pulling backwards.
NOTICE! Be careful not to damage the mirror when you remove it.

3.4.4Removing the carriage side covers
Required tools: Hex key 3 mm
1. Remove the screws (4 pcs) from the cover halves.
2. Pull the covers apart, turn them outwards and lift them off.
3.4.5Removing the upper shelf covers
Required tools: Hex key 3mm
1. Remove the screws (2 pcs) from top of the upper shelf.
2. Turn the rotating unit so that you can access the underside of the upper shelf.

3. Remove the screw from below the upper shelf.
4. Lift off the left cover half and then the right cover half from the upper shelf.
NOTICE! Be careful not to damage the clamps that hold the covers together.
3.4.6Removing the tubehead front cover
Required tools: Hex key 3mm
1. Detach the indicated screws (4 pcs) that hold the cover on the tubehead frame.
NOTICE! Check the cable routing through the lips on the cover for easier re-installation.
2. Pull the cover off.

3.4.7Removing the tubehead back cover
Required tools: Hex key 3mm
1. Remove the tubehead back cover by detaching the indicated screw and pull the cover outwards.
The screw has a screw cover cap over it.
2. Remove the tubehead back cover.
3.4.8Removing the rotating unit side covers
Required tools: Hex key 3mm
NOTICE! Turn the rotating unit carefully so that it does not collide with the lower shelf.
1. Remove the screws (6 pcs) from the top of the rotating unit.
2. Remove the screws (2 pcs) from below of the rotating unit.
3. Pull the covers off.

3.4.9Removing the sensor covers
Required tools: Hex key 3mm
2D ONLY DEVICES
1. Detach the 2D sensor cover screw.
2. Pull the sensor collar halves apart to detach them from the sensor.
3D DEVICES
1. Pull the 2D sensor collar cover downwards.

2. Detach the collar cover halves by lifting the left side cover upwards and pulling the covers apart.
3. Remove the screw on the 2D sensor cover.
4. Pull the sensor covers apart to detach them. To help unlocking the cover halves, squeeze the left
side cover edges while pulling the covers apart.

3.5Remove 3D sensor
Remove the 3D sensor from the rotating unit.
NOTICE! If the device is PAN only and does not have a 3D sensor, skip this step.
1. Remove the sensor connectors and their EMC clamps from i2000 circuit board.
2. Remove the sensor power cables.
3. Remove the sensor data cable.

4. Remove the screws (4 pcs) that hold the sensor in place.
NOTICE! Hold on to the sensor when you remove the screws. When all screws are off, the
sensor can easily fall down and break.
5. Remove the sensor and sensor cables from the device. Both will be installed back to the device
later.

3.6Remove sensor holder assembly
Remove the sensor holder assembly from the rotating unit. The sensor holder assembly is replaced
with a CEPH imaging compatible mechanism and a CEPH imaging capable sensor.
1. Disconnect the device cables from i2000 image capture board and the cable clamp and grounding
cable from the sensor holder assembly.
2. Remove the sensor holder assembly screws (2 pcs on both sides of the rotating unit).
3. Carefully remove the sensor holder assembly from the rotating unit.
NOTICE! A new CEPH imaging compatible sensor holder assembly is supplied with the
upgrade kit.
What to do next:
• If the device is serial number KR1902594 or older, upgrade the linear movement mechanism and
rotating movement motor. See chapters Linear movement mechanism replacement on page 19
and Rotating movement motor replacement on page 26 for more instructions.
• If the device is installed with PAN/3D wall bracket, continue to disassemble the device. See chapter
Prepare the device for disassembly on page 27 for instructions.
• If the device is installed with the CEPH wall bracket in an applicable position, skip to chapter Install
the CEPH arm on page 31 and continue the installation.

3.7Linear movement mechanism replacement
Replace the linear movement mechanism from the upper shelf. You must remove the rotating unit
from the device to do this.
1. Detach all main cable set connectors from the i3000 main control board and tubehead cable
connectors from the upper shelf.

2. Remove the screw from the cable clamp and turn the clamp up.

3. Move the rotating unit so that it is in a 90 degree angle with the upper shelf.
NOTICE! The tubehead must be in home position (on the right hand side of the device).
4. Push the cable clamp lid down and pull it open to release the main cable.
5. Remove the screws on the linear movement sledge that hold the rotating unit.
