CLEAR-VIEW OUTDOOR RAIL GUARD INSTRUCTIONS
Model 4680/4685
The Outdoor Rail Guard is a roll of clear, durable plastic film that you cut to fit your railing. The Outdoor Rail Guard is then
fastened to the railing with cable ties or screws and washers. Cable ties, screws, plastic washers and hole punch is
provided. You will need a tape measure, straight edge, marker and scissors. Optional: Drill and 3/16” masonry bit.
1. Measure length and height of section of railing to be covered. Add at least 2 inches to length for overlapping at both ends
(See Instruction 3). If one end lacks a post, add 6 inches so that guard may be curled into and attached to wall. (See
diagram on reverse side of instructions).
2. Unroll plastic onto floor. Using a marker and straight edge, draw a line at length needed. Cut along line with scissors. If
height requirement is less than 33 inches, mark measurement on plastic in several places and draw a line using a
straight edge and marker. Cut plastic along line.
3. Hold plastic in place with ends overlapping end post (overlap by 2 inches) and/or wall (overlap by 6 inches). Make a
mark on the plastic on either side of one of banister posts no less than ½ inch from top edge (See reverse side of
instructions). Use hole punch to punch hole at your marks. Press hard, you may need to use both hands. Be
careful and always punch holes from the side of plastic that will be exposed to the child. Use one cable tie and
insert through holes from backside of plastic and into the locking ends of cable tie, so that locking end is on the
back side of plastic. Tighten tie, cut off excess.
4. Hold plastic in place so that it is level and resting flat against the banister. Mark two holes no less than ½ inch from
bottom edge on either side of the same post just inside width of post. Punch holes. Place a tie through holes with
locking end on inside. Tighten tie and cut off excess tie squarely. Repeat this process along banister at every other post
(see diagram on reverse side of instructions).
5. The Outdoor Rail Guard may be fastened to end post with cable ties. For a more secure attachment to end post, punch
holes 1/2 inch in from edge and spaced no more than 10” apart along edge. Secure to post with plastic washers and
screws provided.
If end of railing does not have a post, curl plastic against wall and punch holes ½ inch in from edge and spaced no more
than 10” apart along edge. If attaching to a wall with wood behind siding, then secure to wall with plastic washers and
screws. If attaching to a masonry wall then mark wall through punched holes in plastic. Drill a 3/16 inch hole. Place yellow
anchors into hole and secure with plastic washer and screws.
Important: With guard installed, recheck all ties to be sure they are tight. Use scissors to
round off all corners of guard to remove sharp edges.
