Introduction
The MS 1000 is a PC-based sonar processor that allows the control and display unit
for one or more sonar heads and sensors. The system works with several types of
digital sonar heads and altimeters available from Kongsberg Mesotech Ltd. With the
use of this system, a real-time sonar image can be seen on the screen and can also
be recorded for later viewing. Furthermore, annotations can be made with the use of
overlays. In addition to sonar data, the system can be connected and receive
information from external sensors, such as GPS, MRU, etc.
From version 5.0, t
he MS1000 release includes two editions, MS1000 Express
Edition and MS1000 Standard Edition. The MS1000 Standard Edition requires a
Dongle to operate the sonar heads, The MS1000 Express does not require a Dongle
to operate a sonar head, but with limited functions. The following table compares the
functions of the two editions.

Sonar head telemetry
The sonar head can be connected to the MS1000 Processor using either the
Interface Unit supplied by KML, or in special cases, a user supplied telemetry
system.
1.4.1
Option A - KML Interface
KML supplies MS1000 Interface units for scanning sonar heads. These units provide
power for the sonar head and convert the USB or RS232 telemetry to RS485 to allow
for extended cable length and multi-drop configurations. Please consult the
hardware specification sheets for more information.
1.4.2
Option B - User Supplied Interface

For special configurations or very long data links the user can employ a digital
telemetry subsystem that accepts serial data at each end. These subsystems
include Fiber Optic extension to serial telemetry links, user supplied RS232/RS485
converters or similar devices.

1.4.3
Option C - Ethernet Head
KML supplies scanning sonar heads with Ethernet telemetry option. These Ethernet
telemetry sonar heads
are pre-programmed to a default fixed IP address
"192.168.0.254". The Ethernet telemetry sonar heads send connection requests to a
"Remote Host" IP address, the default "Remote Host" IP address "192.168.0.1" is
also pre-programmed in the sonar head.
It's possible to re-assign IP addresses to
adapt to a customized network. To re-assign IP addresses, use "ConfE.exe"
software supplied by Kongsberg Mesotech Ltd. See
Ethernet Configuration
section for details.

Dongle Installation
The MS 1000 System uses a software protection system that requires a Dongle
(hardware key) to be connected to the computer's parallel or USB port to enable full
operation of the system. The Dongle drive will be installed during MS1000
installation. The driver file will be copied under
C:\KML\MS1000_V0XXXX\SentinelSystemDriver for re-installation. Make sure to
plug in the Dongle key to the parallel or USB port before operating the sonar head
with MS1000.
