KONTROL49 application installer
3When all the selected applications have been installed, click [Finish] to exit the
installer.
Windows XP users
The KONTROL49 application installer automatically installs the KORG USB-MIDI
Driver for Windows and the Editor Librarian software from the included CD-ROM.

Insert the included CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
Normally the “KONTROL49 Application Installer” will start up automatically.
If your computer is set so the installer does not run automatically, double-click
“KorgSetup.exe” on the CD-ROM.

From the list, select the applications that you want to install, and click [Install].
The applications you selected will be successively installed. For the installation
procedure for each application, refer to the corresponding sections later in this
document.

3The KONTROL49 Editor Librarian Installer screen will appear. Click [Next>].
4The “License Agreement” will be displayed. Carefully read the agreement, and
if you accept the terms, check [I accept the terms of the license agreement] and
then click [Next>].
5Input your user data and click [Next>].
6Choose the installation destination. The screen will show the default installa-
tion folder. If you want to change this, click [Change] and select the desired
location.
Click [Next>] to begin the installation.
7When installation is completed, click [Finish].

System requirements
■ Windows
Computer
A computer with a USB port (we recommend a USB chipset made by Intel Cor-
poration), that satisfies the requirements of Microsoft Windows XP
Operating system
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Professional, Service Pack 1 or later
■ Macintosh
Computer
An Apple Macintosh with a USB port that satisfies the requirements of Mac OS X
Operating system
Mac OS X version 10.2 or later (version 10.3 is supported)
Windows XP users
To install the software into Windows XP, proceed as follows.
1Insert the included CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2In the Editor Librarian software “KONTROL49” folder of the CD-ROM, double-
click “setup_e.exe” to start up the installer.

Mac OS X users
To install the software into Mac OS X, proceed as follows.
The screens shown in this document are from Mac OS X version 10.3.
1Insert the included CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2In the Editor Librarian software “KONTROL49” folder of the CD-ROM, double-
click “KONTROL49 Editor.pkg” to start up the installer.
3Depending on the version of your operating system, a verification dialog box
may appear at this point. If so, input your password and click [OK].
When the installer starts up, the following screen will appear. Click [Continue].
4“Important information” will be displayed. Read the contents and click [Con-
tinue].
5The “Software LicenseAgreement” will appear. Carefully read the contents, and
click [Continue]. A dialog box will appear. If you accept the terms of the soft-
ware License agreement, click [Agree].
6The “Choose installation destination” screen will appear. Choose the installa-
tion destination, and click [Continue].
7The “Easy Install” dialog box will appear. Click [Install].
8Depending on the version of your operating system, a confirmation dialog box
may appear at this point. If so, input your password and click [OK].
9When installation has been completed successfully, click [Close] to close the
installer.

2From the taskbar, choose [Start] ➞[All Programs] ➞[KORG] ➞[USB MIDI
EzSetup] to start up the setup utility.
The list in the upper part of the window shows the KORG USB-MIDI devices
that are currently connected to your PC. The lower area shows the software
version of the KORG USB-MIDI Driver you are about to install.
From the list, choose the KORG USB-MIDI device that is currently connected to
your PC, and click [Install].
Driver installation will begin.
Windows XP users
■Installing the Korg USB-MIDI Driver
Administrator privilege is required to install or uninstall the driver on Win-
dows XP. For information, consult your system administrator.
Please set Windows XP so that it will allow you to install the driver even though
the driver does not have a digital signature. For information, refer to page 10,
“Allowing installation of an unsigned driver.”
The “Korg USB MIDI Driver for Windows XP” is for Windows XP platforms
only. This driver cannot be used with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me,
or Windows 2000.
You must install the driver for each USB port. If you want to connect the
KONTROL49 to a USB port that is different than the one for which you installed
KORG USB-MIDI Driver for Windows XP, you’ll need to perform the same pro-
cedure to reinstall KORG USB-MIDI Driver for Windows XP again.
1Use a USB cable to connect the KONTROL49 to your computer, and turn on the
power of the KONTROL49.
Windows will detect the connection with the KONTROL49.

3If a dialog box appears, warning you that the driver is not digitally signed, click
[Continue Anyway].
4When the dialog box indicating that installation is completed appears, click [Fin-
ish]. If a dialog box recommends that you restart Windows, click [Yes] to restart.
■Uninstalling the Korg USB-MIDI Driver
1From the taskbar, choose [Start] ➞[All Programs] ➞[KORG] ➞[USB MIDI
Uninstall] to start up the uninstallation utility.
Click [Next>].
2A list of currently installed KORG MIDI devices will be displayed. Add a check
mark only to the MIDI device you want to remove.
Be aware that all MIDI devices with a check mark will be removed.
Click [Next>].
3A dialog box will ask you for confirmation. Click the [OK] button.
4Click [Finish] to complete the procedure.
To ensure that the driver removal has taken effect, restart Windows.

■Allowing installation of an unsigned driver
If your computer has been set so that drivers without a digital signature cannot be
installed, you will need to change your settings so that you can install the Korg USB-
MIDI driver.
1On the taskbar, click the [Start] button and then [Control Panel] to open the
Control Panel.
From the Control Panel, open [System] and click the [Hardware] tab.
Then click the [Driver Signing] button.
2If “What action do you want Windows to take?” is set to [Block], you will not be
able to install the driver. Choose [Ignore] or [Warn], and then click [OK]. If
necessary, change this setting back to its original setting after you have installed
the driver.

Mac OS X users
When used with Mac OS X, the KONTROL49 will automatically use Mac OS X’s built-
in MIDI driver.
For use with Mac OS X, the KONTROL49 requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later.
To set up the KONTROL49 for use with Mac OS X, follow the steps below.
1Use a USB cable to connect the KONTROL49 to your computer.
2Turn on the power of the KONTROL49.
3Navigate to Macintosh HD > Application folder > Utility folder, and double-
click “Audio MIDI Settings”.
4Click the “MIDI Devices” tab, and verify that the KONTROL49 is displayed.
■Mac OS X MIDI input and output ports
Using the Mac OS X MIDI drivers, the KONTROL49 provides a total of three MIDI
inputs and two MIDI outputs, as follows:
•One port each of MIDI input and output for external devices
•Two ports of MIDI input from the KONTROL49’s own keyboard and controllers
•One port of MIDI output dedicated to KONTROL49 data dumps and Korg Native
mode

■Input Settings for Applications
The numbers assigned to these ports are a little different between the KONTROL49 front
panel and the Mac OS X MIDI drivers.
On the KONTROL49, you can set the different kinds of controllers - keyboard, pads,
sliders, encoders, and so on - to send data to either USB PortAor Port B (KONTROL49
Owner’s Manual ☞p. 45 “[15] USB-MIDI Port setting”).
In the Mac OS X MIDI drivers, these same two ports correspond to Port 2 and Port 3,
as shown below:

■ When Requesting Support
You will need to provide the following information when requesting support.
•Your name and e-mail address (they must be the same name and e-mail address
you used when registering)
•The authorization code of your product (affixed to the CD-ROM case)
•The name and version of your product (shown in the “About” window of the soft-
ware)

•Your computer system

Before you request support, please check whether your question has been an-
swered in the KONTROL49 Owner’s Manual.
We are sorry, but time does not permit us to answer questions on basic com-
puter operation, on the basics of setting up your computer for music produc-
tion, on how to create songs or sounds, or regarding products not manufactured
by Korg.
Please check the following points before you suspect a malfunction.
■ Can’t install
•Is the CD-ROM inserted in your CD drive?
Make sure that the CD-ROM is inserted correctly.
•Could the lens of your CD drive be dirty?
Use a commercially-available lens cleaner to clean it.
•Is there sufficient space on your hard disk?
If necessary, delete unneeded files to increase the amount of free space.
•{Windows XP} Are you installing the software as a user with administrative privi-
leges (e.g., Administrator)?
If you are using Windows XP, you must log on as a user who has administrative
privileges (e.g., Administrator) in order to install the included software.
The installed software can be used only by the user who installed it.
•Was other software running when you performed the installation?
This software may not be installed correctly if other software is running during the in-
stallation. Close all software other than Windows itself, and perform the installation again.

3Au terme de l’installation des logiciels choisis, cliquez sur [Finish] pour quitter
le logiciel d’installation.
UtilisateursWindows XP
Le logiciel d’installation pour KONTROL49 installe automatiquement le pilote KORG
USB-MIDI pour Windows et le logiciel “Editor Librarian”. Toutes ces données se
trouvent sur le CD-ROM fourni.
1Insérez le CD-ROM fourni dans votre lecteur de CD-ROM.
En principe, le logiciel “KONTROL49 Application Installer” démarre alors
automatiquement.
Si vous avez coupé la fonction de lancement automatique de votre ordinateur,
double-cliquez sur le fichier “KorgSetup.exe” du CD-ROM.
2Choisissez les logiciels devant être installés dans liste puis cliquez sur [Install].
Les logiciels choisis sont installés l’un à la suite de l’autre. Voyez les sections ad
hoc dans ce document pour l’installation des différents logiciels.

4La fenêtre “License Agreement” s’affiche. Lisez les conditions de ce contrat de
licence, cochez [I accept the terms of the license agreement] et cliquez sur
[Next>].
5Entrez vos données d’utilisateur et cliquez sur [Next>].
6Spécifiez l’endroit où les fichiers doivent être installés. L’écran affiche le dossier
d’arrivée proposé par défaut. Pour en choisir un autre, cliquez sur [Change] et
choisissez l’endroit voulu.
Cliquez sur [Next>] pour lancer l’installation.

10.3.
1Insérez le CD-ROM fourni dans votre lecteur de CD-ROM.
2Double-cliquez sur “KONTROL49 Editor.pkg” dans le dossier “Editor
Librarian/KONTROL49” du CD-ROM pour lancer l’installation.

rification pourrait s’afficher. Si c’est le cas chez vous, entrez votre mot de passe

Le pilote par défaut est ensuite installé.
2Dans la barre des tâches, choisissez [Démarrer]➞[Tous les logiciels]➞[KORG]
➞[USB MIDI EzSetup] pour lancer l’utilitaire de configuration.
La liste en haut de la fenêtre reprend tous les appareils compatibles KORG USB-
MIDI actuellement reliés à votre PC. La partie inférieure vous informe sur la
version logicielle du pilote KORG USB-MIDI que vous allez installer.
Choisissez l’appareil KORG USB-MIDI qui est relié à votre PC et cliquez sur
[Install].
L’installation du pilote démarre.

UtilisateursWindows XP
■Installation du pilote Korg USB-MIDI
L’installation ou la désinstallation d’un pilote sous Windows XP nécessitent des
privilèges d’administrateur. En cas de doute, adressez-vous à votre administra-
teur de système.
Veillez à régler Windows XP de manière à pouvoir installer des pilotes sans si-
gnature numérique. Voyez aussi “Désactiver l’obligation d’une signature nu-
mérique” à la page 9.
Le fichier “Korg USB MIDI Driver for Windows XP” n’est destiné qu’à Win-
dows XP. Vous ne pouvez pas installer ce pilote sous Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows Me ou Windows 2000.
Le pilote doit être installé pour chacun des ports USB. Si vous souhaitez relier le
KONTROL49 à un port USB pour lequel vous n’avez pas encore installé le pi-
lote KORG USB-MIDI pour Windows XP, songer à l’installer.
1Branchez le KONTROL49 à votre ordinateur avec un câble USB et mettez le
KONTROL49 sous tension.
Windows détecte la connexion au KONTROL49.

3Si une boîte de dialogue apparaît, vous avertissant que le pilote n’est pas signé
numériquement, cliquez sur [Continue Anyway].
4Quand la boîte de dialogue signalant la fin de l’installation s’affiche, cliquez sur
[Finish]. Si une boîte de dialogue vous recommande de redémarrer Windows,
cliquez sur [Yes].
■Désinstaller le pilote Korg USB-MIDI
1Dans la barre des tâches, choisissez [Démarrer]➞[Tous les logiciels]➞[KORG]
➞[USB MIDI Uninstall] pour lancer l’utilitaire de désinstallation.
Cliquez sur [Next>].
2L’écran affiche alors une liste de tous les appareils KORG MIDI installés. Co-
chez les cases des appareils MIDI que vous voulez écarter.
Songez que tous les appareils MIDI cochés ne seront plus reconnus.
Cliquez sur [Next>].
3Une fenêtre de dialogue vous demande confirmation. Cliquez sur le bouton [OK].
4Cliquez sur [Finish] pour clôturer la procédure.
Pour vous assurer que le pilote n’est plus sollicité, il vaut mieux redémarrer
Windows.

■Permettre l’installation d’un pilote non signé
Si la configuration de votre ordinateur ne permet pas l’installation de pilotes sans
signature numérique, vous ne pouvez pas installer le pilote Korg USB-MIDI.
1Dans la barre des tâches, cliquez sur [Démarrer] puis sur [Panneau de configu-
ration] pour ouvrir le Panneau de configuration.
Dans le Panneau de configuration, ouvrez [System] et cliquez sur l’onglet[Hard-
ware]. Cliquez ensuite sur le bouton [Driver Signing].
2Si “What action do you want Windows to take?” est réglé sur [Block], vous ne
pourrez pas installer le pilote. Choisissez [Ignore] ou [Warn] puis cliquez sur
[OK]. Si nécessaire, vous pouvez réactiver le réglage d’origine de ce paramètre
une fois que le pilote est installé.

■Ports d’entrée et de sortie MIDI du Mac OS X
Le KONTROL49 utilise les pilotes MIDI du Mac OS X, ce qui lui permet de disposer
d’un total de trois entrées MIDI et de deux sorties MIDI, réparties comme suit:
•Un port d’entrée et un port de sortie MIDI pour des périphériques externes
•Deux ports d’entrée MIDI pour le clavier et les fonctions de contrôle du KONTROL49
•Un port de sortie MIDI dédié aux transferts MIDI du KONTROL49 et au mode natif
de Korg

■Réglages d’entrée pour logiciels
Les numéros assignés à ces ports diffèrent légèrement entre le panneau avant du
KONTROL49 et les pilotes MIDI du Mac OS X.
Le KONTROL49 permet de configurer les différentes fonctions de contrôle (clavier,
pads, curseurs, commandes, etc.) de sorte qu’elles transmettent des données vers le
port USB A ou B (☞p. 45 “[15] USB-MIDI Port setting”).
Dans les pilotes MIDI du Mac OS X, ces deux ports correspondent aux ports 2 et 3,
comme indiqué dans le tableau suivant:

Utilisateurs Mac OS X
Quand il est utilisé avec le Mac OS X, le KONTROL49 se sert automatiquement du
pilote MIDI interne du système Mac OS X.
L’utilisation du KONTROL49 avec le Mac OS X requiert la version Mac OS X
10.2 ou une version ultérieure.
Pour configurer le KONTROL49 en vue de l’utiliser avec le Mac OS X, suivez les éta-
pes ci-dessous.
1Branchez le KONTROL49 à votre ordinateur avec un câble USB.
2Mettez le KONTROL49 sous tension.
3Naviguez jusqu’à Macintosh HD > dossier Applications > dossier Utilitaires et
double-cliquez sur “Audio MIDI Settings”.
4Cliquez sur l’onglet “MIDI Devices” et vérifiez que le KONTROL49 est affiché.

Avant de vous adresser au service d’aide, vérifiez si la réponse à votre question
ne se trouve pas déjà dans le mode d’emploi du KONTROL49.
Nous sommes au regret de ne pas pouvoir répondre à des questions d’ordre
général concernant la manipulation d’un ordinateur, la configuration du sys-
tème à des fins musicales, la composition, voire les produits d’autres fabricants
que Korg.
Merci de vérifier les points suivants avant conclure que votre logiciel présente un
défaut.
■ Impossible d’installer le pilote
•Le CD-ROM est-il chargé dans le lecteur ad hoc de l’ordinateur?
Vérifiez que le CD-ROM est correctement chargé.
•La lentille de votre lecteur de CD-ROM est-elle sale?
Nettoyez la lentille du lecteur avec un dispositif de nettoyage approprié disponible
dans le commerce.
•La capacité résiduelle du disque dur est-elle encore suffisante?
Dans le cas contraire, effacez tous les fichiers dont vous n’avez plus besoin.
•[Windows XP] Disposez-vous des privilèges d’administrateur (ou équivalents)?
Sinon, vous ne pouvez peut-être pas installer le logiciel.
Si vous travaillez sous Windows XP, vous devez vous connecter en tant qu’admi-
nistrateur pour pouvoir installer les logiciels fournis.
Les logiciels ne sont accessibles que par l’utilisateur qui les a installés.
•Avez-vous songé à quitter tous les autres logiciels avant de lancer l’installation?
L’installation risque d’échouer si d’autres logiciels sont encore actifs.
Quittez tous les logiciels sauf Windows puis recommencez l’installation.
