Firmware Update Instructions with KE Manager

KE Manager Software installation

Please install the KE Manager Software on your PC first by double-clicking on the Setupfile in the Explorer window.

A WINDOWS installation assistant will advise about necessary steps. The software is self-extracting.

Connect the KE Multitester with your Network / PC

Turn on the xDSL Multitester. Use a RJ45 Ethernet cable and connect

the multitester on the management port (100 Mb, top panel) with an

Ethernet port on your network or directly into the Ethernet port on your

PC.

Open the KE Manager

Click on the KE Manager icon on your PC desktop. The KE Manager starts and displays by various colours

the connection status to the PC.

In the bottom row the connection status is displayed:

- For connecting please click on a KE3x00

- KE3x00 found ==> Connection to IP 192.xxx is built

- Connection to the KE3600 (serial number, IP192.xxx) is OK

The green background indicates an established connection. In the

window in the upper left corner the serial number and the IP

address are displayed. With several KE Multitesters in the network,

you can find the one you search by the display of the serial number.

Now you can change settings for the KE Multitester with the KE

Manager.

Connection problems

If the KE3500 / KE3600 is recognized by the PC but gets no IP

address, you can restart the KE3x00 to fix the problem.

Within the KE Manager there is also the possibility in the

"Configuration" menu using the option "Reset of configuration"

to supply a new IP address. But first make sure that the correct LAN

adapter is selected. Some PCs have multiple network cards.

LImportant: Connect the KE Multitester with the power supply during the update process! An unintentional

disconnection during the update process has the consequence that the unit has to be submitted to the

manufacturer.

Connection problems

If the start screen of the KE-Manager is not green, but remains red or yellow, then possibly

prevents communication between the xDSL Multitester and the PC.

Solution 1: Allow the settings of your Antivirus program to communicate with the KE3x00, by releasing the

to the program.

Solution 2: Open the Windows Control Panel, select the menu item "Windows Firewall" in the Network and Sharing

Center. In the upper left corner select "Allow a program or Feature through Windows Firewall".

Now a program list will open and you can choose the KE3x00 Manager

to allow the communication with the network .

With the Explorer on your PC, you can select the KE Multitester

firmware file from your hard drive or an external drive (the file

extension is always .upd). Click "Öffnen" (Open) in the

selection window.

Upload new Firmware

Click on the menu bar. A new window will open: In the configuration menu, you can select the language and

on the bottom right, press the button "Update Firmware" for the software update.

The KE Manager checks whether the selected firmware is more

recent than those already installed on the KE Multitester. Now you

can start the upload to the device. Uploading the file is

acknowledged in the window. Now you must only activate the new

firmware on the device.

Enable new Firmware software

Select from the main menu of the KE Multitester

'Setup '.

Then select 'Software Update'.This function is now

enabled and now black colored. Usually it is grayed

out.

On the next page you will find at least two entries.

Select the first one and press SEL, the select button

on the keypad of KE Multitester and follow the further

instructions. The unit will reboot and install the new

firmware on itself. Continue with the second entry in

the same way.

Now you are ready for new measurements.

Under the menu item ’System Information‛ in Setup

you can always see which software version and

licenses are used in the device.

Caution: Do not run software update with plugged

SFP module!

Important: During the update process, it may happen that the UTI module update is not performed. If this

condition lasts longer than 2 minutes, turn the unit directly of by using the ON / OFF button, reboot and start

the software update process again.

Instructions for Licensing with KE Manager

Unlock software on the device

1. To unlock individual features select with the KE Manager connected to the KE Multitester under “Configuration” the

menu item “Licensing”.

2. Activate in the following window the field within the table "License code" column by double-click (box turns green and

cursor appears).

3. Enter here the code and for activation click in the colum ”Licence status” right next to the input of the licence code.

(Licence status ”active” appears). Immediately after verification of the code (a few seconds), you can control the

activation in the device setup (Setup > System information > Licencies).

4. Quit the window by pressing the OK button at the bottom right. Now finish the KE Manager and restart.

The new function is now available!
