1 Introduction
With every CoolSafe Touch, a dedicated software package is delivered without charge. The
CoolSafe Control and Datalogger software facilitates:
Full control of the CoolSafe freeze dryer from an external computer via a USB connection
Complete real-time monitoring and logging of temperature and pressure data from the freeze
drying process running
Viewing and converting data from previous runs.
This manual covers instruction on installing the software and connecting to the CoolSafe freeze
dryer, controlling and running the CoolSafe freeze dryer and logging and handling of the data from
the freeze drying process.
2 Installation and setup of the software
The CoolSafe Control and Datalogger software is delivered on the SD card placed in the SD card
reader located in the back panel of the CoolSafe cabinet.
Remove the SD card and load it into the computer you wish to install the software package on.
On the SD card a single self-extracting installation file is located. By running this file, the CoolSafe
Control and Datalogger software and the needed USB drivers for communication between the
computer and the CoolSafe unit. This software will run on windows based computers running 32 bit
or 64 bit Windows 7 or newer operating systems.
The installation can be run directly from the SD card or from any other media connected to the
computer.
2.1 Loading the SD card
When loading the SD card, Windows will need some time to install the drivers for handling this. This
takes a few moments and will be performed automatically.
Open the SD card and double click the installation file on the SD card.

The installation process will begin. The installation is run by the wizard shown below. Simply follow
the wizard through the installation of the software.
In this window press next to continue.

Read the License Agreement and remember to accept the terms hereof and press next.
Fill in user name and organisation –must be filled –and press next.
It is recommended to use the destination folder suggested.

Press next.
Press next to complete the installation of the software on the computer.
After completion open the destination folder in Windows Explorer. Two folders should be in the
destination folder:

Open the folder Labogene_CoolSafe_Touch_Datalogger…. and open it. Locate the application file
and right click to create a shortcut and place it on the desktop.
Go to the desktop and right click the shortcut. Press the Advanced option and select the “Run as
administrator option. Press OK.

Press OK and the installation is complete.
2.2 Connecting to the CoolSafe
Before starting to connect the CoolSafe and the computer, make sure the cable (mini USB for the
CoolSafe and standard USB for the computer) between the two is in place. The USB port on the
CoolSafe is located on the back of the cabinet. Any USB port on the computer will do the job.
With the cable in place, double-click the shortcut to start the software.
Two windows will be opened. In front the main screen for the control part of the software package
and hidden behind it the datalogging, data managing and viewing part of the software.

The first time it is run, Windows will search for and install the appropriate drivers for the USB device
(the CoolSafe).
