IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using this kettle, please follow these basic safety precautions.
1. Please read all instructions before using.
2. This kettle is for household use only. It is not suitable for commercial use, or for use outdoors.
3. This kettle has been designed for the purpose of boiling drinking water only. It must only be used with the
360° base supplied by the manufacturer.
4. Place the kettle well away from the edge of your worktop or table during use. Ensure the surface is level,
clean and dry.
5. Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of the worktop or table, touch any hot surfaces or become
tangled.
6. Do not place the kettle on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in or near a heated oven.
7. To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the kettle, base, power cord or plug in water, or allow
them to come into contact with moisture.
8. Plug the kettle into the mains socket before switching it on.
9. To prevent scalding, do not remove the lid during the boiling cycle.
10. Do not touch hot kettle surfaces. Use the handle for lifting and carrying.
11. Always unplug the kettle when not in use, and before cleaning. Grasp the plug, not the power cord.
12. The kettle is not intended for use by children or infirm people unless they have been adequately supervised
by a responsible person to ensure they can use it safely. Children should be supervised to ensure they do
not play with the kettle. It must not be left unattended during use.
13. Do not use the kettle if the power cord or plug show any signs of damage, or if the appliance is dropped,
damaged or working incorrectly. Call the helpline on 015394 88100 to arrange a repair or replacement.
Never try to repair the kettle yourself as this may cause electric shock.
USING YOUR KETTLE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Carefully unpack the kettle and remove any packaging. The kettle is cordless and its 360° base is suitable for
left or right-handed use. Before using the kettle to make drinks, we recommend you fill it with fresh water and
boil two or three times, then discard the water. This will remove any dust or residue left behind by the
manufacturing process.
BOILING WATER
1. Ensure the kettle is switched off. Open the lid by gently pressing the release button.
2. Fill with fresh, cold water, paying attention to the MIN and MAX marks on the water level indicator. Boiling
water may escape from the spout if the kettle is too full.
3. Press down the lid, and place the kettle onto the 360° base, with the spout facing away from you. Plug the
power cord into a socket and switch on. Press down the kettle on/off switch. The indicator light will show
the kettle is working.
4. The kettle will switch off automatically when the water has boiled, and the power indicator light will turn off.
The kettle can be switched off at any time before the water boils, simply by lifting up the on/off switch.
5. Lift the kettle by its handle and pour the water. To re-boil, press the on/off switch again. After use, the kettle
should be emptied of water and stored on its base. Switch off at the socket and unplug.
HELPFUL HINTS
• Always use fresh, cold water each time you boil the kettle.
• Ensure the lid is securely in place whenever the kettle is in use.
• If the kettle is accidentally switched on with too little water, the boil-dry mechanism will automatically switch
it off to prevent overheating.
• If water is spilled onto the 360° base, please disconnect the kettle from the mains supply before mopping
up the liquid. Ensure that the base and central socket are completely dry before using the kettle.
CARE AND CLEANING
Allow the kettle to cool completely before cleaning, and disconnect from the mains supply. The outside of the
kettle may be wiped over with a damp cloth and polished with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use chemicals, steel wool
or abrasive cleaners on the inside or outside of the kettle. CAUTION: never immerse the kettle, base, cord or
plug in water or any other liquid.
DESCALING
Over time, limescale in tap water can build up and clog the kettle, reducing its efficiency. We recommend
descaling the kettle regularly using a proprietary brand of descaler, following the instructions on the packaging.
The frequency will depend upon the hardness of water in your area.
RECYCLING YOUR ELECTRICALS
Along with many other high street retailers, Lakeland has joined a scheme whereby customers can take their
unwanted electricals to recycling points set up around the country. Visit www.recycle-more.co.uk to find your
nearest recycling point.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED
This appliance is fitted with a fused three-pin plug to BS1363 which is suitable for use in all homes fitted with
sockets to current specifications. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and
carefully disposed of. To avoid an electric shock, do not insert the discarded plug into a socket.
Fitting a new plug
If for any reason you need to fit a new plug, the flexible mains lead must be connected as shown here. The wires
in the mains lead fitted to this appliance are coloured in accordance with the following code:
Connect BLUE to Neutral (N)
Connect GREEN & YELLOW to Earth (E)
Connect BROWN to Live (L)
13 amp fuse to be used
If the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance do not correspond with the coloured markings
identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows. The wire which is coloured green and yellow MUST
be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter E (Earth) or coloured green. The wire which is
coloured blue MUST be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N (Neutral) or coloured black.
The wire which is coloured brown MUST be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L (Live)
or coloured red.
Before refitting the plug cover, check that there are no cut or stray strands of wire inside the plug. Use a 13 amp
BS1362 fuse. Only BSI or ASTA approved fuses should be used. If you are at all unsure which plug or fuse to
use, always refer to a qualified electrician.
Note: after replacing or changing a fuse on a moulded plug which has a fuse cover, the cover must be refitted
to the plug; the appliance must not be used without a fuse cover. If lost, replacement fuse covers can be
obtained from an electrical shop. This appliance complies with the following EEC Directives: 73/23 EEC (Low
Voltage Directive) and 89/336 EEC (EMC Directive).
