The Leckey Advance Bath Chair and
Shower Trolley have been designed to
reach new levels of functionality and
adjustability for the use in the bath and
shower. This manual shows you how you
can quickly, safely and easily make use of
all of the functions. The instructions on the
safety and maintenance of the product
will ensure that you will enjoy the use of
this product for a long time.

SECTION 01:
INTENDED USE
Intended use
The Bathing Supports are intended
to support children and young adults
who have mild to complex postural
needs that disrupt the ability to sit
without external support. All devices
are intended to be used within a bath
or shower to facilitate personal care.
Indications for use
Advance Bath Chair is for use in the
bath or the shower if used with a
Shower Trolley. Advance Bath Chair is
intended for children with disabilities
from the age of 1 to 18 years old
who may have a lack of trunk control
or excessive muscle tension due to
conditions such as cerebral palsy and
or those who are unable to support
themselves during the bathing
process. Advance Bath Chair has a
maximum user weight of 72kgs on
all sizes.
The Advance Bath Chair is classied
as a Class I Medical Device under
EU and UK regulations. As the
manufacturer, James Leckey Design
Limited, declares that this product
conforms to the Medical Device
Regulation (2017/745), UK Medical
Device Regulations 2002, Medial

EN 12182:2012 Assistive products
for persons with disability, general
requirements and test methods.

Any serious incident that has
occurred in relation to the
device should be reported to the
manufacturer and the competent
authority of the Member State in
which the user and/or patient is

SECTION 03:
WARNINGS AND
CAUTIONS
KEY:
LAB = Advance Bath Chair
LSF = Shower Trolley
RAP = LAB + LSF combined
WARNING TOPPLING HAZARD:
• Never use the RAP on uneven
ground. Its intended use is
for bathroom / wet room
environments.
• Never leave the child unattended
whilst seated in either the RAP or
LAB.
• Always check that the seat back

and foot rest is secure before
the user is transferred into the
product and the user’s support
straps are being used as soon as
the user is seated.
CAUTION DAILY CHECKS:
• The RAP is to be checked daily
before use to ensure that all
harnesses and seating elements
are securely attached.
• Always thoroughly read
instructions before use.
• Always visually inspect the
product before use. If in doubt,
STOP. If you suspect or know the
product or a part is faulty, STOP.
Contact our customer services

soon as possible.
CAUTION FINGER PINCH HAZARD:
• •Take care when assembling or
adjusting the position of the LAB
components that your ngers do
not get pinched when positioning
seat components and tightening
mountings against LSF.
• The carer should not touch any
moving joint or pivot that is not
locked.
WARNING OCCUPANT SECURITY:
• Before placing the user in the
product, adjust the product into
its therapy orientation and check
its stability.
• User transfers in and out of
the product must be done with
appropriate equipment and
personnel.
• Ensure that the occupant
is secured with the device
harnesses as soon as they are
transferred. Care should be taken
with any recline adjustments for
involuntary movements which
might cause sudden reclining
movement. Never leave the child
unattended whilst in the LAB /
RAP.
• If the user exhibits any form of
distress, remove from the product
as quickly as is safely possible.
CAUTION CLEANING:
• Clean the product regularly
to prevent the build-up of
dirt. Accumulated dirt can
prematurely wear the seat
mouldings and encourage
corrosion in the frame. Only use
non-abrasive household cleaners
and moist cloths.
CAUTION CLEANING POWER
WASHERS/HOSES:
• Do not use hoses or power
washers on the frame
components, the frame is not
sealed against running water
and may be damaged by water
ingress.
CAUTION STORAGE:
• The product should be kept
away from all direct sources of
heat, including naked ames,
cigarettes, electric and gas
heaters.

SECTION 05:
PRODUCT HISTORY
RECORD
Your Leckey product is classied
as a Class 1 Medical device and as
such should only be prescribed,
set up or reissued for use by a
technically competent person who
has been trained in the use of this
product. Leckey recommend that
a written record is maintained to
provide details of all setups, reissue
inspections and annual inspections of
this product.
CAUTION BRINGING INTO USE:
• When bringing the LAB into
use from storage, allow it
to acclimatise to ambient
temperature rst to avoid the
discomfort of cold metal to bare
skin of the user.
CAUTION DISPOSAL:
• Only dispose of the RAP in a
community waste disposal
site under the correct recycling
category.
SECTION 04:
TERMS OF WARRANTY
The warranty applies only when
the product is used according to
the specied conditions and for the
intended purposes, following all
manufacturers’ recommendations
(also see general terms of sales,
delivery and payment). A three
year warranty is provided on all
Leckey manufactured products and
components.

PRODUCT TRAINING

Your Leckey product is a prescribed
Class 1 Medical Device and as such
Leckey recommend that parents,
teachers and carers using the
equipment should be made aware of
the following sections of this user
manual by a technically competent
person:

SECTION 07:
SAFETY INFORMATION
1. Always read instructions fully
before use.
2. Users should not be left
unattended at any time whilst
using Leckey equipment.
3. Only use Leckey approved
components with your product.
Never modify the product in any
way. Failure to follow instructions
may put the user or carer at risk
and will invalidate the warranty
on the product.
4. If in any doubt to the continued
safe use of your Leckey product
or if any parts should fail, please
cease using the product and
contact our customer services
department or your local dealer
as soon as possible.
5. Carry out all positional
adjustments and ensure that
they are securely fastened before
you put the user into the product.
6. The weight limit on all four sizes
of seat is 72kg. This should NEVER
be exceeded.
7. With the exception of the back
recline adjustment the Advance
Bath Chair should not be adjusted
whilst the user is in the seat. If
Leckey recommend that a written
record is maintained of all those who
have been trained in the correct use
of this product.

8. When adjusting the Advance
Bath Chair into any position
ensure the locking pin is fully
engaged.
9. We recommend that when the
Shower Trolley is stationary that
all four castors are locked and
facing away from the trolley
base.
10. Although mobility is an important
feature of this product we do not
recommend that users be moved
over uneven surfaces whilst
in the equipment. All due care
and attention should be taken
if transporting the user in the
Shower Trolley from one room to
another.
11. Never leave the product on a
sloping surface, greater than 5
degrees. Always remember to
lock all the castors.
12. If moving your Shower Trolley
from one room to another
please steer by gripping onto
the handles at the top of the
backrest.
13. Leckey products comply with re
safety regulations in accordance
with EN12182. However the
product contains plastic
components and therefore
should be kept away from all

SECTION 09:
HOW TO UNPACK
AND ASSEMBLE
Congratulations on purchasing your
Leckey Advance Bath Chair. Your
Advance Bath Chair will come bubble
wrapped, at packed and without
the cover attached. Your Leckey
Advance Bath Chair will come with a
hip belt already attached and chest
belt with lateral supports. Additional
straps as ordered will also be
included. Carefully remove them and
please check that you have all the
parts you ordered.

SECTION 08:
PRECAUTIONS AND
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Precautions
• Fixed spinal deformities such as
scoliosis or kyphosis
• Severe muscle contractures
• Severe muscular or skeletal
asymmetry including hip
dislocation
• Progressive and muscle wasting
conditions
• High risk or recent history of
bone fractures
• High risk of pressure related
injury or open sores
• Strong, uncontrolled movement
patterns
• Poorly controlled seizure activity
• Children dependent on the use
of percutaneous endoscopic
gastrostomy
• Medical instability including
compromised respiratory or
cardiovascular function
• Dependant on 3rd party life-
sustaining apparatus such as
oxygen tanks
• Signicant learning disabilities
and/or behavioural issues
Contraindications
There are no contraindications
associated with bathing devices. The
instructions for use indicate that for
all products, no child or young adult
should be left unintended in the
device when in use or contact with
water.
All precautions and contraindications
are taken at the discretion of the
parent or prescribing clinician.

9.1 ATTACHING THE
COVER
To attach the cover position the bath
seat with the calf support in the
maximum position as shown, then
rstly slip the cover over the backrest
and then secondly the calf support.
Then loop the straps in through the
frame securing the fabric under the
seat base as shown.
9.2 ATTACHING THE
HIP BELT
The hip belt simply secures around
the user with Velcro.
9.3 ATTACHING THE
CHEST BELT
To attach the chest belt, loop it
around the back of the seat and
Velcro securely at the front around
the user.

9.4 ATTACHING THE
ABDUCTION STRAP
To attach the abduction strap, simply
loop around the tubular frame and
secure at the back with Velcro.
9.5 ATTACHING THE
HEAD LATERALS
The head laterals are secured in the
same way by simply looping around
the tubular frame and securing at the
back with Velcro.
9.6 ATTACHING THE
ADVANCE BATH CHAIR
TO THE SHOWER
TROLLEY
The Shower Trolley will allow you to
simply convert your Leckey Advance
Bath Chair into a shower chair. To
attach the Leckey Advance Bath Chair
to the Shower Trolley, simply alter the
length of the frame, to correspond
with the adjusted position of the legs
on the Leckey Advance Bath Chair.
This is done by loosening the bolts
and adjusting the bar to the required
position. Once in position re-tighten
the bolts securely. Then simply drop
the front and back legs of the Leckey
Advance Bath Chair into the channels
as shown, fastening the Velcro straps
securely around the leg tubes.

SECTION 10:
CLINICAL SETUP
FOR POSTURAL
MANAGEMENT &
DAILY USE
The clinical setup of the product
should be completed by a technically
and clinically competent person who
has been trained in the use of the
product. Leckey recommend a written
record is maintained of all clinical
setups for this product.
Parents and carers should be shown
how to make frequent adjustments
and made aware of the safety checks
in Section 7 by a technically and
clinically competent person who
has been trained in the use of the
product. Leckey recommend that a
written record is maintained of all
parent and carers who have been
trained in the use of this product.

For stability reasons we do
not recommend that both
sets of legs be adjusted
to their highest position at the
same time. When adjusting
the Advance Bath Chair into
any position please ensure the
locking pin has engaged fully.
10.2 TILT IN SPACE
The independent height adjustability
of the Leckey Advance Bath Chair
front and back legs allows the seat
to be adjusted for a range of tilt in
space positions. These adjustments
are carried out in the exact same
way as the height adjustment
described above.
Always check with your
therapist that the use
of tilting space will not
cause any obstructions to
the child’s airways.
10.1 HEIGHT
ADJUSTMENT
The Leckey Advance Bath Chair can be
adjusted in height to allow for a range
of positions from at in the bath to over
bath height. The height is adjusted by
pulling down on both sets of levers and
adjusting the front and back legs to the
required position. Once the required
position is obtained simply release
the levers.
10.3 BACK RECLINE
ADJUSTMENT
The back recline of the Leckey
Advance Bath Chair can be adjusted
to four positions from horizontal to 90
degrees. The back recline is adjusted
by pulling the lever, moving to the
required position and then releasing
the lever, ensuring it slots back into
position.

10.4 CALF SUPPORT
ADJUSTMENT
The calf support can be adjusted
into four positions by pulling down
on the levers, moving to the required
position and then releasing the lever
into position.
10.5 CHEST BELT
ADJUSTMENT
To position the foam pads under the
user’s armpit, while looping the strap
around the back of the frame and
secure with Velcro at the front as
shown. The lateral supports can also
be positioned out of the way at the
back of the seat if the user does not
require this level of support.
10.6 ABDUCTION
STRAP ADJUSTMENT
Once the abduction strap has
been attached the legs are then
positioned and secured by the
smaller Velcro straps.
When adjusting the

into any position ensure
the locking pin is fully
engaged.

SECTION 11
CLEANING & CARE
INFORMATION
How to Maintain
When cleaning the Advance Bath
Chair frame we recommend that you
use only warm water and a non-
abrasive detergent. Never use organic
solvents or dry cleaning uids.
Upholstery and fabrics
The Advance Bath Chair cover can be
removed and machine washed at 60
degrees.
The Advance Bath Chair accessories
can be cleaned by hand whilst in
place. When cleaning we recommend
that you use only warm water and a
nonabrasive detergent.
We recommend that you do not
use any type of medication in the
bathwater during the bathing
process as this may contribute to the
breakdown of the adhesive glue used
to bond the moulding to the stainless
steel leg.
Always ensure the product is dry
before use.
Metal and plastic components
1. Soap and water or antibacterial
spray can be used for daily
cleaning.

We recommend that daily visual
checks of the equipment are carried
out by therapists, carers or parents
to ensure the product is safe for use.
The recommended daily checks are
detailed below.
1. Ensure all adjustment knobs are
in place and secure.
2. Check all upholstery and velcro
for signs of wear and tear

SECTION 13
ANNUAL PRODUCT
INSPECTION
(Therapist, Technician, Leckey
Product Advisor, Dealer)
Leckey recommend that each product
should be subject to a detailed
inspection at least once a year and
every time the product is reissued for
use. This inspection should be carried
out by a technically competent
person who has been trained in the
use of the product and should include
the following checks as a minimum
requirement.
1. Check all knobs, nuts, bolts and
plastic buckles are in place,
replacing any missing items.
2. Lift the base to check each castor
individually. Make sure they are
moving freely and remove any
dirt from the rubber wheels.
Check that the brakes lock the
wheels securely.
3. Visually check the structure of the
product paying attention to weld
points on the frame ensuring there
are no signs of fatigue or cracking
around the welds.
4. Leckey recommend that a written
record is maintained of all annual
product inspections.
SECTION 14
RE-ISSUING LECKEY
PRODUCTS
Most Leckey products are assessed
and ordered to meet the needs of
an individual user. Before reissuing
a product we recommend that the
therapist prescribing the product
has carried out an equipment
compatibility check for the new
user and has ensured that the
product being re-issued contains no
modications or special attachments.
A detailed technical inspection should
be carried on the product prior to
re-issuing. This should be carried out
by a technically competent person
who has been trained in the use and
inspection of the product. Please refer
to section 13 for the required checks
to be carried out.
Before re-issuing a product, it is
recommended that it is disinfected
using one of the following
procedures:
Note: Always clean the product rst
to remove accumulated soiling prior
to disinfecting/sanitising.
1.Where possible, we recommend
the use of an automated “fogger”
disinfection system that is used
to completely cover the product
surfaces with a disinfectant agent.

be cleaned thoroughly in accordance

Information, of this manual.

supplied with the product. A copy
