1INTRODUCTION
We would like to congratulate you on your purchase of a platform lift from Lehner Lifttechnik
GmbH and welcome you to our large circle of satisfied customers. For more than 30 years, our lifts
have been known as reliable means of transport, which are characterised by individual adaptation
to structural conditions.
The StepSaver platform lifts represents a new generation of platform lifts with proven technology.
The lift has been built according to the currently valid European safety rules.
As with any appliance that works under load and whose parts are in motion, the utmost
attention is required. Please read this user manual carefully. Make sure that every user of
the lift has read and understood the user manual before using the lift. You will find
instructions for operating the unit as well as safety instructions.
Use these instructions to benefit from Lehner Lifttechnik's many years of experience in the
operation of accessibility lifts. Proper care of the system on your part as well as scheduled
maintenance by a competent company will provide you with a reliable lift system over a long
period of time.
Lehner Lifttechnik GmbH and its authorised partner companies offer you a comprehensive
maintenance programme specifically for your installation. Take advantage of the manufacturer's

2ATTENTION - SAFETY FIRST
This manual also contains instructions for emergencies. It must therefore be ensured that this manual
is always available at the installation and kept accessible to the operator, lift attendant, rescue and
maintenance personnel.
Please carefully observe the following points/regulations:
2.1 Signs and symbols used
The following signs enable you to become aware of important points immediately. This makes it
much easier to use the operating instructions.
All passages marked with this sign require special attention. They are notes for
smooth operation or important recommendations.
Warning: In the case of text passages with this sign, failure to observe the procedure
indicated may lead to dangerous situations, causing personal injury or damage to
property. Therefore, read these points with special care.
Text passages with this symbol refer to actions that must not be carried out under
any circumstances. In case of non-observance, there is immediate increased danger,
whereby personal injury or damage to property may occur.
All pictures, photos and drawings used in this manual are symbolic only and may
differ from reality.

2.2 Platform lift operator
At least one responsible person must be appointed for each platform lift; this person must be easily
reachable during the operating time of the installation. The installation must be maintained in a safe
condition. If the system is found to be unsafe, it must be taken out of service immediately; danger
zones must be secured. Accidents must be reported immediately to the expert (lift inspector or
installation company) or the manufacturer.
The person in charge must make sure on a weekly basis that there are no obviously dangerous
operational defects and that the tasks listed in the chapter "Duties of the platform lift operator" are
being carried out carefully.
2.3 User group
The platform lift may only be used by competent, qualified, and responsible persons who are familiar
with the system. The user must be able to assume responsibility for himself and for third parties.
Persons who do not meet these requirements, as well as children, may only be transported by
accompanying persons who also assume responsibility for the person being transported.
2.4 Range of application
The platform lift may only be used on stairs or accessible ramps. It is recommended to install the
system in predominantly dry rooms. The ambient temperature must not be below 10 °C or above +
40°C. This type is not suitable for use in unusual locations (e.g. explosive areas, areas with aggressive
media, etc.).
2.5 Qualified workers
Installation, maintenance, repairs, and checks must be carried out by qualified persons, preferably
by companies authorised by Lehner Lifttechnik.
2.6 Decommissioning
When the unit is taken out of service for cleaning, maintenance, or repair work, it must be protected
against unintentional movement. The key switches on the call stations must be switched off and the
keys removed.

2.7 Intended use
Preventive checks and regular maintenance of the unit are highly recommended and will guarantee
you long-term, safe operation.
2.7.1 Safety instructions
Observe the following points for correct use:
▪The platform lift is built to transport physically disabled persons with wheelchairs.
▪Only 1 person at a time may be transported seated in a wheelchair.
▪The platform lift is not intended for transporting loads.
▪Adhere to the specified maximum loads and observe the available platform size.
▪Observe instructions attached to the unit.
▪The system must be maintained and safety-checked at the prescribed intervals.
▪Do not use the platform lift in case of fire! There could be a power failure during the
ride and the user would be trapped.
▪Never exceed the permissible payload. The payload is indicated on the control panel
of the platform.
▪Never bring your hands or loose clothing near the platform mechanism or the
grinding wall when the lift is running.
▪Do not open the revolving doors (if present) by force.
▪Do not disable any safety device by making mechanical or electrical changes to the
installation. Without the written consent of Lehner Lifttechnik, all types of adjustments
and/or modifications to the system are prohibited.

2.7.2 Use of the platform lift
The platform lift may only be used if it is in technically perfect condition. Any malfunction that could
affect safety must be avoided or eliminated.
Report anything unusual to your service technician. Do not use the platform lift in case of
irregularities and unusual noises - call the service immediately. All instructions and directions from
experts, fitters and service personnel must be followed.
Before entering the up or down command, make sure that no one is endangered by the
movement of the system. Always look in the direction of travel!
The transport of goods is only permitted if sufficient stability is ensured so that they cannot slip or
fall over.
Also, keep the keys in a safe place and do not give them to unauthorised persons. Do not leave the
keys on the vehicle or at the call points when the lift is not in use.

3TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT
The StepSaver platform lift was developed for transporting wheelchair users. The lift is driven by 4
spindle motors inside 4 columns. The lift motors are supplied by 2x12V batteries located on board
of the platform.
The basic version comes with a mechanical access ramp, safety curtain, half-height side barriers and
a handheld control on the platform. The lift can be operated from 2 remote controls in the stops (if
available) and from the control on the platform.

In some situations, it is necessary to make a special adjustment to the platform lift, which may change
the above specifications.

4SAFETY DEVICES
The Liftboy platform lift is equipped with the following safety device:
4.1 Access ramp
The ramp, which has to be folded up during the ride, prevents a fall in longitudinal direction. This
always opens automatically in the lower stop as long as the travel command is held down.
4.2 Safety curtain
The safety curtain is fitted on the front and back side of the platform and serves as an intervention
protection.
4.3 Overload device
The platform is equipped with an overload device in upward travel. If the load capacity specified on
the type plate is exceeded, an overcurrent potentiometer switches off the system. In this state, it is
not possible to drive up.
The platform must never be overloaded. In case of overload, reduce the excess load
immediately.
4.4 Emergency stop
The Liftboy platform lift is equipped with an emergency stop button. If you need to stop the platform
in an emergency, press the red button and the lift stops. Unlocking is done by pressing it again or
turning it clockwise.

5INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING
The system may only be set up and commissioned by a competent
partner company of Lehner Lifttechnik GmbH. When setting up the lift,
it must be ensured that no impacts or vibrations from neighbouring
machines have an effect on the system. This could affect the electronics
or the precision mechanics of the lift. The load-bearing capacity must
be checked on the basis of the support load per unit area.
5.1 Installation site
The detailed installation drawing for your system is in the box we supply. This box also contains the
charger and the corresponding control unit (radio remote control (optional), hand cassette and
programming device).
It is important that the floor at the installation site is level and horizontal. The platform
motor columns and the underlying frame of the platform must be in full contact with the
floor. If this is not the case, the platform mechanism will be deformed and damaged
which can result in an accident!
If the ground is not horizontal, the platform must NOT be brought into a horizontal position by
using shims or wedges. In this case, the floor or the foundation must be adjusted! The installation
surface must be level and horizontal!

5.2 Transport on the site
Take the pallet to the installation site and unpack the cardboard box.
Now lift the platform down from the pallet.
You must grasp the platform underside to be able to lift the platform - see picture below
right. Never lift the platform by the top. This could damage the platform mechanism!

5.3 Installation of the platform
The platform has a net weight of 150kg. However, due to small vibrations and side load during entry
and exit, the platform must be fixed to the ground to prevent shifting or tilting.
In case of the use of bridging steps the platform must be fixed to the 4 fixation points shown in the
below image. It must be assured that the stated pulling forces are held by the fixation screws.
In case of 2 bridging steps the necessary pulling forces are 450N on each of the 2 fixation
points close to the lower entry side. The installer must chose the proper fixation method
based on the ground material to hold this pulling force.
Now attached the safety curtain back to the contact costrip on the platform floor.
Connect the hand cassette and the charger to the platform lift.
Attach the safety curtain to the adhesive strip provided.
Connect the hand-held cassette to the plug and plug in the charger.
Check several times the ascent and descent of the installation (with and without load) as well as the
correct stopping at the upper stop, the function of the optional bridging steps and the function of
the drive-up ramp in the lower stop. Now the Liftboy is completely assembled.
If you have any problems or questions, contact your Lehner Lifttechnik partner or customer service

its authorised partner companies. Failure to do so will invalidate the operating and warranty permit
and result in the exclusion of liability for consequential damage of any kind.
5.4 Programming to set the lifting height
The service display can be used to adjust the lifting height.
Please follow the steps described here:
1. set the lift to the desired upper user height using the
arrow buttons on the programming control unit.
2. press the "Up" arrow button 4 times in quick succession
3. a tone sequence indicates that programming mode has
been reached. The display now shows "PO1"
4. press the "Up" arrow button until "P07" is displayed
5. briefly press the "One" save button to save the selection, successful saving is confirmed by
a tone sequence
6. note: there must be a minimum distance of 100 mm between the upper and lower user
height
The lower end position does not need to be programmed unless the lift is installed in a pit. To set
the lower end position, programming can be carried out using the same procedure on the desired
lower end position with "P06" and memory button 2.
Deleting the saved user heights
1. move the lift to the upper or lower user height using the arrow buttons (keep the "Up" or
"Down" arrow button pressed until the lift stops because the programmed user height has
been reached)
2. press the "Up" arrow button 4 times in quick succession
3. a sequence of tones indicates that programming mode has been reached
4. press the "Down" arrow button twice in quick succession
5. two beeps indicate that the user height menu has been reached
If the lift is at the upper user height and this is to be cancelled, the "Up" arrow button must be
pressed. Successful cancellation is confirmed by a sequence of tones If the table is at the lower user
height and this is to be cancelled, the "Down" arrow button must be pressed. Successful deletion is
confirmed by a sequence of beeps.
5.5 Dismantling and disposal
Dismantling work on the entire system may only be carried out by the manufacturer or its authorised
partner companies. According to the European Directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and
electronic equipment and its implementation in national law, used electrical equipment must be
collected separately and recycled in an environmentally sound manner.

6OPERATING ELEMENTS
6.1 The charger
The charger connects the system to the power grid. The connecting cable with the plug is located
on the side of the platform base. The charger must be connected so that the batteries are loaded,
and the systems remains in function.
6.2 Controls on the platform
The platform is equipped with a hand cassette on the spiral cable as standard. This allows an
ergonomic sitting position while operating the platform.
The travel buttons are located on the hand cassette. An emergency stop button and optionally a
key switch are mounted on the platform.
Alternatively, or additionally, the operating elements can also be attached to a control pillar.

6.3 Call stations at the stops (optional)
Landing control stations can be located at each stop. The control station must be activated with the
key switch before operation. The control stations are used for calling and sending, as well as for
opening and closing the access ramp. The landing control can be hard wired or with radio signal.
The radio control stations flashes a green light when the radio signal is working. The radio control
stations are powered by 2 x AAA / 1.5V batteries as standard. The battery life is approx. 1 year.
The status of the radio cassette can be read from the LED:

Possible reasons:
•e.g.: The lift is already at the top landing when the Up button
is pressed.
•Safety circuit interrupted
Red glow
Radio connection available, but the lift is busy. Lift is operated from
the platform or from another call station.
Green flashing
Radio transmitter has been successfully registered with the receiver
Orange flashing
Radio connection interrupted
Red flashing
The battery of the radio transmitter is weak and should be replaced.

7OPERATING THE PLATFORM
The platform lift is safe and easy to use. The operation is optimally adapted to
the user with walking difficulties.
Before moving the platform, make sure that nobody is endangered
by the movement of the platform and the optional bridging steps.
If a dangerous situation arises while the platform is moving, stop
the platform immediately by releasing the command button!
7.1 Calling the platform
If the platform is not at the desired stop, it can be summoned with the call station.
▪Switch on the call station by inserting the key and turning it. The green lamp now lights up.
▪Press the move command button "Up" or "Down". The platform moves in the
corresponding direction as long as the button remains pressed. If you release the button
while the platform is moving, the platform stops immediately.
▪The platform stops independently when reaching the stops.
▪In the lower stop, the access ramp opens automatically as long as the drive-down
command remains pressed.
▪Switch the optional call station off again when the platform has stopped in the stop by
turning and removing the key.
The lift can only be controlled from the stops when the revolving doors are closed.
7.2 Opening the ramps and driving on the platform
At the lower stop, the access ramp opens automatically as long as the travel command for
downward travel remains pressed.
At the upper landing, 1 or 2 bridging steps are optionally available. These must be level
with the upper level so that it is possible to drive onto the platform by driving over the
bridging steps. In this case, the platform must be firmly bolted to the floor to prevent it
from tipping over.
The user must not remain standing in the area of the bridging steps but may only park
the wheelchair on the platform and brake. Before starting the descent, the user must
ensure that no part of the wheelchair can come into contact with the moving bridging
steps.
