On Electronic models the input is fixed at
39,000 BTU/HR for both gas types.

Care and Operation Instructions included here will assure that you have many years of
dependable and enjoyable service from your LENNOX product.
INTRODUCTION
The Fireplace models covered in this manual
are Direct-Vent sealed combustion gas fire-
placeheatersdesignedforresidentialapplica-
tion. Direct-Vent appliances operate with the
combustionchambercompletelyisolatedfrom
the indoor environment. All air for combus-
tion is brought in from the outside and ex-
haust gases are vented through the same
direct vent, vent system.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Note: Installation and repair should be per-
formedbyaqualifiedserviceperson.Theappli-
ance should be inspected annually by a quali-
fied professional service technician. More fre-
quent inspections and cleanings may be re-
quired due to excessive lint from carpeting,
bedding material, etc. It is imperative that the
control compartment, burners and circulating
airpassagewaysoftheappliancebekeptclean.

Provideadequateclearancesaroundairopen-
ings and adequate accessibility clearance for

ture and draperies. Locate furniture and win-
dow coverings accordingly.
The millivolt appliances are designed to oper-
ateoneithernaturalorpropanegas.Amillivolt
gas control valve with piezo ignition system
provides safe, efficient operation. If any op-
tional accessories which require electrical
powerarebeinginstalled,theelectricalpower
must be provided at the time of appliance
installation.
The electronic appliances are designed to op-
erate on either natural or propane gas. An
electronic intermittent pilot system provides
safe, efficient operation. External electrical
power is required to operate these units.
Theseappliancescomplywith National Safety
Standardsandaretestedandlistedby(Report
No. 116-F-04-5) to ANSI Z21.88-2002 (in
Canada,CSA-2.33-2000),andCAN/CGA-2.17-
M91 in both USA and Canada, as vented gas
fireplace heaters.
Installation must conform to local codes. In
the absence of local codes, installation must
comply with the current National Fuel Gas
Code,ANSIZ223.1(NFPA54).(InCanada,the
currentCAN/CGAB149installationcode.) Elec-
tricalwiringmust complywithlocalcodes. In
the absence of local codes, installation must
be in accordance with the National Electrical
Code, NFPA 70 - (latest edition). (In Canada,
thecurrentCSAC22.1CanadianElectricCode.)

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Early signs of
carbon monoxide poisoning are similar to the
fluwithheadaches,dizzinessand/ornausea.If
youhave these signs, obtain freshair immedi-
ately. Turn off the gas supply to the appliance
and have it serviced by a qualified profes-
sional, as it may not be operating correctly.
Toopenthecontrolcompartmentaccesspanel,
actuate the spring-loaded magnetic catches
securingthepanel. First,depresstheoutertop
right corner of the panel until the catch "pops"
thedoorfree.Then,gentlypullthedoorforward
untilthelefttopcorner"pops"free,allowingthe
panel to swing out and down to open.
On millivolt systems, the piezo ignitor, Hi/Lo
flameadjustmentknob,andpilotandmaingas
ON/OFF control knob are located on the mod-
esty panel.
On both millivolt and electronic systems the
gasvalveislocatedbehindthemodestypanel.

OPERATION AND CARE OF YOUR
APPLIANCE
Appliance operation may be controlled by the
followingmeans:thefactoryprovidedmodesty
panel-mounted ON-OFF control switch, an op-
tionalwall-mountedON-OFFswitchoroptional
remote control.
The modesty panel mounted ON-OFF control
switch is located behind the control compart-
ment access panel, below the appliance front
glass enclosure panel. See Figure 1.
Gas Controls/Control Compartment
Access
The gas controls can be found behind the
control compartment access panel.
Maximum manifold pressure is 3.5 in. w.c.
(0.87 kPa) for natural gas and 10 in. w.c.
(2.49 kPa) for LP/Propane gas.
Do not use these appliances if any part has
beenunderwater.Immediatelycallaqualified,
professional service technician to inspect the
appliance and to replace any parts of the
control system and any gas control which
have been under water.

Test gage connections are provided on the
front of the millivolt gas control valve (identi-
fied OUT for the manifold side and IN for inlet
pressure. A ¹⁄₈" NPT test gage connection is
provided on the electronic gas control valve
adjacent to the outlet to the main burner.
Minimuminletgaspressuretotheseappliances
is5.0 incheswatercolumn(1.24kPa)fornatural
gas and 11 inches water column (2.74 kPa) for
propane for the purpose of input adjustment.
Maximum inlet gas supply pressure to these
appliances is 10.5 inches water column (2.61
kPa) for natural gas and 13.0 inches water
column (3.23 kPa) for propane.
The appliance must be isolated from the gas
supply piping system (by closing its individual
manualshut-offvalve)duringanypressuretest-
ing of the gas supply piping system at test
pressuresequaltoorlessthan¹⁄₂ psig(3.5kPa).
The appliance and its individual shut-off valve
must be disconnected from the gas supply
piping system during any pressure testing of
that system at pressures in excess of ¹⁄₂ psig
(3.5 kPa).
These appliances must not be connected to a
chimney or flue serving a separate solid fuel
burning appliance.
Any safety guard or screen removed for ser-
vicing the appliance must be replaced prior
to operating the appliance.

Remove the bottom control compartment ac-
cess panel by compressing the spring-loaded
hinge pin on the left side until it disengages
fromtheleftcabinetpanel hole.Pullthepanel
away from the fireplace.
Once the control compartment access panel
has been removed, the modesty panel can be
removed as follows: slide the modesty panel
forward until it contacts the cabinet bottom
panel, then lift straight up and tilt forward.
Remove the modesty panel carefully, so that
none of the wires become loose or discon-
nected.Nowcompleteaccesstothegascontrol
valve and its related controls is attainable.
To ease door closure, depress the catches to
place them in their retracted position, then
close the door.
Operationofmillivoltandelectronicgascon-
trolsystemsaredifferent.Beforelightingand
operating your appliance determine if you
have a millivolt or electronic appliance.

2. Whenlitfor the firsttime,this appliance will
emitaslightodorfor14hours.Thisisduetothe
“burn-in”ofinternalpaintsandlubricantsused
in the manufacturing process.
3. Keep lower control compartment clean by
vacuuming or brushing at least twice a year.
Morefrequentcleaningmayberequireddueto
excessivelintfromcarpeting,beddingmateri-
als, etc. It is important that control compart-
ments, burners and circulating air passage-
ways of the appliance be kept clean and clear
of obstruction of venting and combustion air.
4. Alwaysturnoff gas tothepilot (millivolt appli-
ances)andlettheunitcooldownbeforecleaning.
Before re-lighting, refer to the lighting instruc-
tions in this manual. Lighting instructions may
alsobe found on the pullout lighting instruction
labels attached to the gas control valve.
Maintenance
The appliance and venting system should be
thoroughly inspected before initial use and at
least annually by a qualified service techni-
cian.However,morefrequentperiodicinspec-
tions and cleanings should be performed by
the homeowner. Homeowner must contact a
qualified service technician at once if any
abnormal condition is observed.
Refer to the maintenance schedule for mainte-
nancetasks,procedures,periodicityandbywhom
theyshouldbeperformed. Alwaysverifyproper
operation of the appliance after servicing.

TRICAL POWER BEFORE SERVICING THE
APPLIANCE.

5. Always keep the appliance area clear and
freefromcombustiblematerials,gasolineand
other flammable liquids.
6. Remember, Millivolt appliances have a con-
tinuous burning pilot flame. Exercise caution
when using products with combustible vapors.
Glass Cleaning
It will be necessary to clean the glass periodically.
During start-up it is normal for condensation to
formontheinsideoftheglass. Thiscancauselint,
dustandotherairborneparticlestoclingtotheglass
surface.Alsoinitialpaintcuringmaydepositaslight
filmontheglass.Itisthereforerecommendedthat
theglassbecleanedtwoorthreetimeswithanon-
ammoniahouseholdcleanerandwarmwater(agas
fireplace glass cleaner is recommended).
Variable Flame Height Adjustment
( Millivolt Appliances only)
1. All Millivolt appliances are equipped with a
variablegascontrolvalve.Flameheightforthese
models may be adjusted through a range be-
tween fixed low and high settings while the
applianceisinoperation.Adjusttheflameheight
asdesiredafterlightingtheappliancebyrotating
the variable adjustment control knob located on
the front of the valve
(refer to Figure 2) .(An
extension is attached to this knob so that the
adjustmentmaybemadeatthemodestypanel.)
Refer to Figure 1 for access to the gas
control valve. Millivolt appliances will be
fitted with the gas control valve shown in
Figure 2 . Appliances with electronic sys-
tems will be fitted with the electronic valve
shownin
Figure 3 .Familiarizeyourselfwith
the gas control valve that your appliance
uses.
Millivolt Appliances -
To light millivolt appliances refer to the de-
tailed lighting instructions found on
page 12
(English) and page 13 (French). Millivolt ap-
pliance lighting instructions may also be
found on the pull out lighting instruction
labels attached to the gas control valve.
Millivolt appliances are fitted with a burner
ON/OFF control switch (rocker switch). See
Figure 1 on page 3 for its location. Once the
pilot is lit, the ON/OFF rocker switch will con-
trol the appliance ON/OFF operation. To oper-
ate: ToggletheswitchbetweenitsONandOFF
positions. Ifyourmillivoltapplianceisequipped
withanoptionalwall-mountedON/OFFswitch
or remote control kit and the pilot is lit, the
appliance main burner may be turned on and
off with the wall switch or remote control.
Electronic Appliances -
To light electronic appliances refer to the de-
tailed lighting instructions found in both En-
glishand Frenchon pages 14 and 15 of these
instructionsrespectively.Electronicappliance
lighting instructions may also be found on
the pull out lighting instruction labels at-
tached to the gas control valve.
Electronicappliancesarefittedwitha ON/OFF
burner control switch (rocker switch). See
Figure 1 on page 3 for its location. The elec-
tronic system will go through the whole light-
ing sequence automatically once the rocker
switch is toggled to the ON position. If your
electronic appliance is equipped with an op-
tionalwall-mountedON/OFFswitchorremote
control kit the appliance main burner may be
turned on and off with the wall switch or
remote control.

trol compartment, fireplace logs and burner
area.
Referto Figure 6 on page 7 and verify thatthe
flame pattern and height displayed by the
appliance conforms to the picture. Flames
must not impinge on the log set.

10 onpage8 (electronic) .Removeanysurface
build-uponpilotandburnerassembly.Cleanthe
pilotnozzles, ignitor/flame rod and hood with a
soft brush. Ensure the pilot flame engulfs the
flame sensor as shown.
Inspect the vent system at the top and at the
base(withinthe firebox) forsignsofblockage
orobstruction. Look for anysigns of disloca-
tion of the vent components.
Perform the appropriate appliance checkout
procedure detailed in this manual.
Maintenance Schedule
Annually (Before the onset of the Burning Season)
Clean as necessary following the directions
providedinthismanual. DO NOT TOUCH OR
CLEAN GLASS WHILE IT IS HOT.
Inspect the vent system at the top and at the
base (within the firebox) for signs of block-
age or obstruction. Look for any signs of
dislocation of the vent components.
Refer to Figure 6 on page 7 and verify that
theflamepatternandheightdisplayedbythe
appliance conforms to the picture. Flames
must not impinge on the log set.
These are direct-vent appliances. They are de-
signedtooperateonlywiththeglassenclosure
panels properly installed. Generally the glass
enclosure panels should not be removed ex-
cept to gain access to the components within
the firebox, and the appliance may only be
operatedwithoutthefrontglassenclosurepanel
in place for very brief periods of time during
initial appliance checkout and adjustment.
During this appliance checkout and adjust-
ment period, a potential safety hazard exists
- EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION to prevent
the occurrence of any burn injuries from the
exposed flames or hot surfaces.
Alsonote, that whilethe front glassenclosure
panel (or any of the panels) is removed, the
flame appearance will appear to be smaller
than normal.

3. Remove the bottom control compartment
accesspanelbycompressingthespring-loaded
hinge pin on the left side until it disengages
from the left cabinet corner post hole. Pull the
panel away from the fireplace.
4. Locate the two (2) latches at the top of the
control compartment. To disengage the two
latchesfromthebottomvee-flangeoftheglass
enclosure panel, reach for the handles located
towards the back of the latches and pull the
handles down toward the front of the unit.
5. Swing the bottom of the door out and raise

To install the front glass enclosure panel,
proceed as follows:
1. Visuallyinspect the gasket onthebackside
ofthepanel.Thegasketsurfacemustbeclean,
free of irregularities and seated firmly.
2. Position the glass enclosure panel in front
ofthefireboxopeningata45degreeangleand
engagethe top flangeover thelip at thetop of
the firebox opening.
3. Swingtheglassenclosurepaneldownand
back. Ensure the gasket seats evenly as the
panel draws shut. Engage the Vee-flange at
the bottom of the panel with the latches and
close the latches to secure the panel.
4. Reinstall the bottom control compartment
access panel by inserting the right side locat-
ing pin into the right side cabinet panel and
thentheleftsidespring-loadedpinintotheleft
side cabinet panel.
5. Reinstallthetopandbottombustle,andthe
top louver assembly or radiant panel.
Burner Adjustments
The following paragraphs address burner ad-
justment concerns and procedures.
Flame Appearance and Sooting
Proper flame appearance is a matter of taste.
Generallymostpeoplepreferthewarmglowof
a yellow to orange flame. Appliances operated
withair shutter openingsthat are too large will
exhibit flames that are blue and transparent.
These weak, blue and transparent flames are
termedanemic.Iftheairshutteropeningistoo
small sooting may develop.

To adjust the flame, rotate the adjustment rod
(locatedinthelowercontrolarea)counterclock-
wisetodecreaseorclockwisetoincreasetheair
shutter opening. Adjust the air shutter to the
recommended setting as shown in
Figure5 on
page7
.Allowtheburnertooperateforatleast15
minutes. Observe the flame continuously. If it
appearsweak orsooty aspreviously described,
adjusttheairshutterbyrotating theadjustment
rod until the flame appearance is as desired.
Theadjustmentrodandassociatedadjustableair
shutter is patented technology. Flame adjust-
mentscanbemadequicklyandaccuratelytotaste
without the need of disassembling the appliance
andwaitingfor30minutesaftereachadjustment.
Propane models may exhibit a flame pattern
that may candle or appear stringy. If this is
problematic or persists as the appliance is
continually operated, adjust the air shutter
closedasdescribedinthepreviousparagraphs.

TECHNICIAN.
Sooting is indicated by black puffs developing
at the tips of very long orange flames. Sooting
results in black deposits forming on the logs,
appliance inside surfaces and on exterior sur-
faces adjacent to the vent termination.
Sooting is caused by incomplete combustion
in the flames and a lack of combustion air
enteringthe airshutter opening. Toachieve a
warm yellow to orange flame with an orange
body that does not soot, the shutter opening
mustbeadjustedbetweenthesetwoextremes.
No smoke or soot should be present. Reposi-
tion the log set if the flames impinge on any
part of it.
Ifthelogset is properly positionedandsooting
conditions exist, the air shutter opening on the
mainburnertubeshouldbeadjusted.Normally,
the more offsets in the vent system, the greater
theneedfortheairshuttertobeopenedfurther.

actuate the spring-loaded magnetic catches
securing the panel, by gently depressing the
outertopcorners of thepaneluntil the catches
"pop"thedoorfree,allowingittoswingoutand
down to open.

within the firebox. One plastic bag of glow-
ing embers is located in the bottom com-
partment. Refer to the Log Set Placement

Deluxe Remote Control System
The Model RCL-T (Deluxe) Remote Control
System has all of the features of the standard
system along with an added easy to read LCD
screen which presents access to many en-
hancements, including; battery power level in-
dicator,timer,modeofoperation,thermostatic
display including room temperature in either
metric of English units, flame indicator and
clock. Fully programmable, the Model RCL-T
allows for virtual command over nearly all
operational and temperature variables, using
the hand held remote control transmitter.
TheModelRCL-T(Deluxe)remotecontrolsys-
tem is installed in the same manner as the
standard system, may be operated with elec-
tronicand millivolt systems with either natural

Standard Remote Control System
The Model RCL (Standard) Remote Control
System, features a simplistic on/off control
functionforthefireplace. Thismodelincludes
a hand-held transmitter, a remote receiver
with wall-mount coverplate and all hardware
required to install the unit. The remote re-
ceiver can be wall or hearth mounted.
The transmitter has ON and OFF functions that
are activated by pressing either button on the
face of the transmitter. When a button on the
transmitter is pressed, a signal light illuminates
briefly to verify that a signal has been sent.
The Model RCL is designed to operate with all
millivolt ignition systems, as well as electronic
ignitionsystems. Itmaybeinstalledwithusefor
either natural or propane gas appliances. The
RCLofferseaseofinstallationand allows you to
executeon-offcommandstothefireplaceeffort-

LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS –MILLIVOLT GAS VALVE
FOR YOUR SAFETY READ BEFORE LIGHTING
A. This appliance has a pilot which must be lighted with a piezo
ignitor. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions
exactly.
B. BEFORE OPERATING smell all around the appliance area for
gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is
heavier than air and will settle on the floor.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS
•Extinguish any open flame.
•Open windows.
•Do not light any appliance.
•Do not touch any electrical switches.
TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1. Turn remote wall switch “OFF.”The pilot will remain lit for
normal service.
2. For complete shutdown, turn remote wall switch to “OFF.”
3. Access the lower control compartment.
4. Depress gas control knob slightly and turn clockwise
to “OFF.”Do not force.
5. Close lower control compartment.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. STOP! Read the safety information above on this page.
2. Access the lower control compartment.
3. Turn remote wall switch to “OFF.”
4. Verify main line shut-off valve is open.
5. Push in gas control knob slightly and turn clockwise
to “OFF.”
6. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you then smell gas,
STOP! Follow “B”in the safety information above on this page. If you
do not smell gas, go to the next step.
7. Push in gas control knob slightly and turn counterclockwise
to “PILOT.”
8. Push in control knob all the way and hold in. Immediately light the
pilot by triggering the spark ignitor (pushing the button) until pilot
lights. Continue to hold the control knob in for about 1 ¹⁄₂ minutes
after the pilot is lit. Release knob and it will pop back up. Pilot should
remain lit. If it goes out, repeat steps 5 through 8.
•If knob does not pop up when released, stop
and immediately call your service
technician or gas supplier.
•If pilot will not stay lit after several
tries, turn the control knob to “OFF”
and call your service technician or
gas supplier.
9. Turn gas control knob counterclockwise
to “ON.”
10. Close lower control compartment.
•Do not use any phone in your building.
•Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone.
•If your gas supplier cannot be reached, call the fire depart-
ment.
C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control knob.
Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn by hand,
do not try to repair it, call a qualified service technician. Force
or attempted repair may result in a fire or an explosion.
D. Do not use this appliance if any part has been under water.
Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the
appliance and to replace any part of the control system and
any gas control which has been under water.
Note: Knob cannot be turned from “PILOT”to “OFF”
unless the knob is pushed in slightly. Do not force.

1. Tournez l’interrupteur mural àla position d’arrêt “OFF”. La veilleuse

2. Pour une fermeture complète, tournez l’interrupteur mural àla
position d’arrêt “OFF”.
3. Ouvrez le compartiment de contrôle du bas.
POUR FERMER LE GAZ QUI ALIMENTE L’APPAREIL
4. Enfoncez légèrement le bouton de réglage du gaz et tournez-le dans
le sens des aiguilles d’une montre jusqu’à la position
d’arrêt “OFF”. Ne forcez pas le bouton.
5. Fermez le compartiment de contrôle du bas.
8. Enfoncez le bouton de réglage jusqu’au fond et gardez-le enfoncé.
Allumez immédiatement la veilleuse en déclenchant l’allume-gaz à
étincelle (en poussant le bouton) jusqu’à ce que la veilleuse
s’enflamme. Continuez de tenir le bouton de réglage enfoncé
pendant environ 90 secondes après l’allumage de la veilleuse.
Relâchez le bouton et il sortira subitement. La veilleuse devrait
rester allumée. Si elle s’éteint, répétez les étapes 5 à8
inclusivement.
•Si le bouton ne sort pas automatiquement après avoir étérelâché,
arrêtez immédiatement et téléphonez
àvotre technicien de service ou à
votre fournisseur de gaz.
•Si la veilleuse refuse de rester
allumée après plusieurs tentatives,
tournez le bouton de réglage jusqu’à
sa position d’arrêt “OFF”et
téléphonez àvotre technicien de
service ou àvotre fournisseur de gaz.
9. Tournez le bouton de réglage du gaz en sens inverse des aiguilles
d’une montre jusqu’à sa position de marche “ON”.
10. Fermez le compartiment de contrôle du bas.
11. Au besoin, rebrancher l’appareil au courant électrique et remettre
l’interrupteur du brûleur principal àla position “ON”ou régler le
thermostat àla température désirée.
12. Si l’appareil ne fonctionne pas, suivre les instructions intitulées
“Pour fermer le gaz qui alimente l’appareil”et appeler un
technicien ou le fournisseur de gaz.
Remarque: Il est impossible de tourner le bouton de “PILOT”à“OFF”à
moins qu’il ne soit légèrement enfoncé. Ne le forcez pas.
6. Attendez cinq (5) minutes pour l’evacuation du gaz. Si vous décelez
une odeur de gaz, ARRÊTEZ ! Retournez au point “B”des consignes
de sécuritéau verso de cette plaque. Si vous ne remarquez aucune
odeur de gaz, passez àl’étape suivante.
7. Enfoncez légèrement le bouton de réglage du gaz et tournez-le en
sens inverse des aiguilles d’une montre jusqu’à la position de
veilleuse “PILOT”.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE MILLIVOLT GAS CONTROL SYSTEM
1. Spark ignitor will not light
pilot after repeated
triggering of ignitor button.

Check for spark at electrode and pilot; if no spark and
electrode wire is properly connected, replace ignitor.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
N ote: Before troubleshooting, make sure that the appliance main line gas shut-off valve and the gas control valve are in the "OPEN"
position and the burner ON/OFF switch is in the “ON”position.
Important: Valve system troubleshooting should only be accomplished by a qualified service technician.
Clean and/or adjust pilot flame for maximum flame impinge-
ment on thermocouple
(Figure 9 on page 7) .
Check burner orifice for stoppage and remove.
Checkthermopilewithmillivoltmeter.Takereadingatthermo-
pile terminals of gas valve. Should read 325 millivolts mini-
mum with optional wall switch “OFF.”Replace faulty thermo-
pile if reading is below specified minimum.
Check wall switch and wires for proper connections. Jumper
wire across terminals at wall switch, if burner comes on,
replacedefectivewallswitch.Ifokay,jumperwiresacrosswall
switch wires at valve, if burner comes on, wires are faulty or
connections are bad.
Check pilot flame, it must impinge on thermocouple
(Figure
9 on page 7)
Clean and/or adjust pilot for maximum flame
impingement on thermocouple. Ensure that the connection
between the valve and thermocouple are tight and secure.
Clean or replace pilot orifice.
Check inlet gas pressure. It should be within the limits as
marked on the rating plate.
Using a match, light pilot. If pilot lights, turn off pilot and
triggertheignitorbuttonagain.Ifpilotlights,animpropergas
mixture caused the bad lighting and a longer purge period is
recommended. If pilot will not light –check gap at electrode
and pilot –should be ¹⁄₈" to have a strong spark. If gap
measures ¹⁄₈", replace pilot
