•Donotconnectordisconnectanycablesorperforminstallation,maintenance,orreconfigurationofthis
productduringanelectricalstorm.
•Connectallpowercordstoaproperlywiredandgroundedelectricaloutlet.
•Connecttoproperlywiredoutletsanyequipmentthatwillbeattachedtothisproduct.
•Whenpossible,useonehandonlytoconnectordisconnectsignalcables.
•everturnonanyequipmentwhenthereisevidenceoffire,water,orstructuraldamage.

3.Attachsignalcablestoconnectors.
4.Attachpowercordstooutlet.
5.TurndeviceON.

3.Removesignalcablesfromconnectors.
4.Removeallcablesfromdevices.

Toinstallthecontroller,dothefollowing:
1.Unpackthecontrollerinastatic-freeenvironment,andinspectitfordamage.
Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthecontrollertoanyunpaintedsurfaceonthe
outsideoftheserver.Then,graspthecontrollerbythetopedgeoruppercorners,removeitfromthe
package,andinspectitfordamage.ContactyourLenovosalesrepresentativeorLenovoresellerif
thecontrollerappearstobedamaged.
Attention:Beforeyouchangethesystemconfiguration,makeabackupcopyofyourdatatoavoid
theriskofdataloss.
2.Preparetheserver.
Reviewallsafetyinformationprovidedwiththeserver.Turnofftheserver,anddisconnectthepower
cordfromtherearofthepowersupply.Dothesameforanyconnecteddevices.
3.Removetheservercover.
4.InsertthecontrollerintoanavailablePCIExpress(PCIe)slot.
Locateanemptyx4orx8PCIeslot.Removetheexpansion-slotbracketfortheselectedPCIeslot.
Savethebracketscrew,ifapplicable.ForthelocationandotherinformationaboutthePCIeslot,referto
theInstlltionndServiceGuideforyourserver.Themostup-to-dateInstlltionndServiceGuideis
alwaysavailablefordownloadathttp:www.lenovo.comsupport.
AlignthecontrollerwiththePCIeslot.Pressdowngentlyuntilthecontrollerisseatedfirmlyintheslot.
ThefollowingillustrationshowshowtoinsertthecontrollerintoaPCIeslot.

5.Securethecontrollerbrackettothesystemchassis.
Installthebracketscrew,ifapplicable,orengagethesystemretentionmechanismtosecurethe
controllertothesystemchassis.

6.ConnecttheSAScablebetweenthecontrollerandtheSASbackplaneoranyotherSATAor
SASdevice(ifapplicable).
Theprecedingfigureshowsthelocationofthecontrollerconnector.Thecontrollerconnectstoan
internaldevicethroughaninternalx4mini-SASHDconnector(SFF-8643).Ifyouuseothercables,
ensurethattheyconformtothecontrollerspecificationsasdescribedinthecontrolleruser’sguide.
7.Installtheservercover,connectthepowercords,andturnontheserver.
